Huggers have loops on both ends and are usually used with Whoopie slings. Straps have a loop on one end and are used with cinch buckles or for using knots to attach the strap to the hammock.

Something that has helped me is to hang the foot end higher than the head end (6-8 inches usually). Also, try setting up your hammock closer to the tree on the foot end, not in the middle of both....
