Thanks, but I am looking for a thread that discussed how to DIY the Gear Box, not posted in the Molly Mac Gear section. I was not the author, but I posted in the thread.
I will make a drawing later, but here is a verbal description of how to make a Molly Mac Gear Box.
The Gear Box is made with 1.1oz SilPoly (polyester ripstop) from RipStopByTheRoll.com in Durham,...
There is a thread that's several years old where folks reverse engineered the Molly Mac Gear Gear Box, to make a DIY Gear Hammock. I want to find it and make sure it has everything anyone needs....
Hello, hangers!
As y'all may know, two years ago we moved to Trouble Ranch on Troublesome Creek, in Rockingham County, NC. My shop is a lot smaller, making it difficult to do large projects....
Kitchen floor cutting worked well, but... me wifey's office lost one of two A/C units, so I loaned her the window unit that was in my shop. That made it tough to find time that work could be done...
Thank you very much, Tumbleweed!
My table is half the length it used to be, so I will probably cut the fabric from the patterns on the floor in the house...
Tried to eat at Louise's this week, but it was closed. Lady at the gas station north of Pineola said, "she is having trouble finding help, like everyone else."
With the restaurant closed with no...
She never did... was satisfied that she knows how!

Let me know when you come this way next. Would be great to do an overnight somewhere special with you and Hickery.
Might not be able to get Klipspringer (formerly known as Thing1) to go with us....
Friends of mine are house sitting in Blowing Rock with their two year old and 6 month old chilluns. They decided to attend the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games and invited me for a day trip. It...
Y'all can hang at Trouble Ranch anytime, with short notice!

In 2021 we moved north of Greensboro to Rockingham County. It's a small house on 10 acres, with a shop. It's on Troublesome Creek, so we call it Trouble Ranch on Troublesome Creek.
The shop is an...
This morning, Hawk-eye passed. I do not know any details. There is a thread at LinvilleGorge.net where Ken will post more information.
Hawk-eye was a great friend. He and three or four others...
A fellow named Chris who frequents the BWCAW contacted me via the Molly Mac Gear website about a Baby Orca synthetic UQ. I responded to him but his email account is over quota, so my message failed....
Long overdue web site upgrade... check it out!

As soon as I relocate my shop, thar's some new products in the works, which will show up on the web site.

I love reading about folks perusing Ashley's and trying knots. I have had mine for over 40 years, and never came across more Ashley readers than here.

The buntline hitch will make a line fast using the least length. All other knots use more line.

Anorak should be very loose fitting. The sash tightens it around your body. The traditional design is such that you can remove the sash, pull your arms in and change your shirt without taking off the...
I am still here, and so is Molly Mac Gear!

I'd love to visit for the day with wifey, my sister and sister's husband. They live in Hendersonville. Good excuse to get together. I'll see what they think!
Thanks for your PMs and order.
I make everything that I have ever made, and a lot of items that are new, and not yet on the web site!

I cannot make this event... I will be at preppercamp learning homesteading. I will send a couple of Gear Boxes, though!

I buy Dark Olive by the roll, but fot $10 you can choose any color at Ripstopbytheroll.com, for polysil.
Also, I put very strong kevlar loops on each end so that you can add any suspension you...
I won't be there... gotta work on Sat.

Persistent rain was what made me invent the Gear Box (a rain-proof gear hammock)...
I hang it first, dump my pack in it, and then I put up a tarp.
Does away with the Gear Explosion under yer...
I like to go to Minnesota in January for a cold hang... 'bout 1200 miles there, 'nother 1200 miles back.
Well worth it!
;)
Won't be long!
I have the panel made, just need to install it.
That's a great idea, and well done... I can see it's well done, as your hammock is now on my table. ;)
I would do that a different way, simply because I like to avoid hardware. I'd use a special Y...
That's true. Also, that will soon change. We're moving, hiring and planning a marketing strategy. Might even start usin' labels!
You are kind to say so... I try hard to design and make good...
Humneso, you certainly can use a Gear Box in the ways you describe. It's a bit slippery, but it can be used like a tarp on a Clack Pack.
Since the Entyre Molly Mac Pack can be placed inside the...
Yes, but that takes a little longer, as I probably have to order the fabric.
Pick any color that is in stock SilPoly at RipStopByTheRoll.com
Nope... it's a bit longer, in proportion. Much more volume, though.
Yep!
Check out the Gear Box from Molly Mac Gear
Got some Silpoly XL for Gear Boxes... it's 6' wide on the roll, makes a Gear Box with significantly more volume, using the same pattern.
That's clever!

For those having volume problems (stuff falls out when Gear Box is loaded)...
I use a 4' ridgeline on fabric that is over 5' wide. That's a ratio of 4/5.5, a little less than 0.80. A smaller...
Yep! :shades:
You should be able to see an appreciable volume increase.
The bottom will develop a belly, and lose the crease.
I like this approach.
You need more volume.
The ridgeline length in the longitudinal seam is 4', but the fabric length along that seam is more like 5.5'. That is what creates volume.
As for material, I use 1.0...
Molly Mac Gear $50 hammock... 1.0 Robic XL almost 6' wide, 11' long, kevlar ridgeline, webbing suspension.

As Jellyfish said, it's wonderfully complex. That's why!
I make lightweight, durable UQs at low cost. Multiplying the suspension by 8 or more would be far too costly to make. I'm thinking of...

There's another website, besides the Co-op... www.MollyMacGear.com
BTW, I now make the Gear Box such that the ridgeline is permanently installed, but the suspension in the end channels is removable.
Ok, got your email and responded... we'll make you a netted single layer hammock!
While we're takin' 'bout the Bivvy Hammock, here's what a customer said recently. The same thing will apply to the...
If you would like a single layer hammock with a sewn on net, zippered on one or both sides, I'll be happy to make it!
I make another hammock that's called the Bivvy Hammock... a two layer hammock...
I use the width to make more of a diagonal... it's very comfortable. Mebbe a smaller person would do it differently. HYOH!
