This is what I do.
I have a trash bag liner & with an empty pack I unhook one end of the hammock with quilts in place and start stuffing until it's all in my pack.

I got August in at BSA camp Rainey Mountain for the eclipse viewing yesterday.
I think this completes 2 years without missing a month....
Just getting back to civilization.
One week in North ga in june for BSA camp.
One night in July at sea base, Florida keys on a deserted island near Key West
...
I'm in North Georgia & always use a hammock with bugnet except Nov to Feb.
I wouldn't worry about stuff crawling down a suspension line as much as flying bugs.
I would love to see how it turned out.
Went topless (tarp) and dang near bottomless (pants) with an UQ last Monday after four hard mountain climbing days on the AT in the Smokies.
Best. Sleep. Ever.
I didn't care that there was...
Month 21. Just got back from 4 days hanging in the Smokies, hiking the Southern half of the GSMNP AT.
Took the 20F set up. It did awesome from 37/rainy up through 85F/sunny.
Saw turkeys, a...
I have a sil poly tarp & reinforced the corners with another layer of tarp material glued on with silicone seam sealer between the layers.
I did it this way because of some testing a HF member...
Grommet tarps generally are cheap & tough which is what young scouts need.
Also, grommets facilitate knot tying with cheap & tough rope like paracord.
All 1st year scouts are learning a list...
The 6x8 from REI is almost exactly 1lb on my scale.
Anything cheap with grommets.
They need to tie knots--2 half hitches on the grommets, taut line hitch on the stakes and trees.
Dutch did it with a Hennessey.

You can shorten the narrow dimension of the camo floor with a dart, then sew up the gaps directly.
Another approach is to cut a patch of fabric with enough coverage to fill the gaps. If you have...
I just made a bug bivy to go under a tarp or in a shelter because of rules in the Smokies.
Be aware that Philmont won't allow tarps or bivy camping and you are required to have an enclosed tent.
If you don't want to cut a perfectly good net, then you can match the lengths by sewing a dart into the longer piece to shorten that side.
It sounds like you need to take in 8 inches on the short...
Needs a racoon/chupacabra/chessie
The bottom footprint is 84x30, plus 6" of wall on all sides. I also put in 3" of wall using boxed corners on the top layer
Head girth is 90", foot girth is 84" with a constant taper.
It sounds...
We are heading up to do an AT section hike in the GSMNP & the rules about shelter use make it necessary to have a plan in place in case I am forced to sleep with the 'mices'.
Combine this with...
Also does lemniscates:

+1 for the chair.
before the chair I stuffed my pack inside a garbage sack under my tarp.
If I started over today with a stock HH I would get the bigger hex tarp and hang it separate. Then hang the hammock with the stock ropes and tree huggers by tying a Beckett Hitch on the free loop of...
For the caribiner setup, you can get away with one of the climbing rated biners per side. The adjustability derives from being able to clip into varying loops in the Atlas straps. I ran that setup...
For the tarp ridgeline I used to have a thin elastic tied between the two ends that hook into the prussicks. The material was similar to the hammock side tieouts & worked pretty well.
At some...
I just ordered green Dragon scales in the membrane and noseeum.
This is really neat stuff.
Maybe allowing our kitties to rub on our gear while in "predator mode" is a good thing.
I JUST went through this last week with my coyote brown silpoly DIY tarp.
Miss Jasmine likes to attack bedsheets and strings, so the tarp was irresistible.
I had to silicone up the 20 or so...
BSA training weekend at Bert Adams, so I got in month 20.
Using an under quilt was uncomfortably hot going to sleep as it was pretty hot with lows in the 60s for a few hours and daytime highs in...
Same here, I went to my parents beach house for Spring Break and I ended up repairing curtains with a hand held sewing machine mom bought.
She has a sweet one-owner 1960s Singer & thinks it's...
To be perfectly Pendant-ic, I believe that a string with a weight added to the middle forms a Lemniscate curve, not a V shape.
(Smiles at Grizz)
19 / 19 for 2 nights this weekend.
Providence Canyon, GA
Lows in the 60s, high near 90F.
TQ and UQ were nice. Rain overnight was plesant.

I've seen two practical ways to make catenary/hyperbolic curves.
The ancient one is to fix a weighted chain on two ends and let the weighted length hang down. You can do this by taping heavy...
Here is what we are teaching for hammock LNT:
Plan and prepare: bring long enough 1”-2” webbing straps, get permits, follow park rules
Travel and camp on Durable Surfaces to avoid damage to trees...
Pads should be OK as a substitute for a UQ in the upper ranges, say above 40F.
We want the scouts to hang a tarp so that unexpected weather doesn't ruin the weekend. Also, we kinda want them to...
I just read a post about how one BSA troop banned hammocks for 2 years and brought them back.
Our troop asked some of us to put together a guide to responsible hammocking. The concerns are for...
My HHSS is good to upper 20s with the space blanket.
I had success with the hhss and it blocks the wind. However I now hang with an UQ-- totally the way to go.
Happy to share with anyone who wants it.
We are going through this in our troop.
Private message me and I'll share my power point including policies
I put quilts & hammock loose in the bottom of the pack in a trash bag.
In the outside (side) pockets, I put my camp chair, tarp and cook kit.
I can cook lunch from my chair or set up my tarp...
I've been using the plastic ones for my tarp for about 1 year or 32 nights.
They did pretty good for about 25 nights and then the teeth started wearing out & rounding off. I got a new set last...
Hung at Ellicott Rock last night on the Chattooga river. Got really chilly at 28F overnight.
Backpacked in with bsa.
Full tq, uq got me through toasty warm.

Usually you start with a design and start tweaking it out to your liking.
Pointing out what and why you changed is useful feedback to the vendors, many of whom participate here and may roll in new...

Bagging a #12nights tonight in John's Creek. Mostly sleet for now.
overnight lows in the mid 20s--pretty cold for GA!!!
Completed 2 nights in the back yard for year 2/ month 4.
We seriously need to get a patch going for this... Anyone have a design?
At first I thought that was an air mattress!
You are going to want some quilt hooks or other way to keep the sides up.
'WHOOOOOO'
'BUDDDDYYYYY!!!!!'
15/15 this weekend at Pine Mountain GA. It finally got cold for us and hit 33F this morning with 15-20 mph gusts.
Full winter TQ & UQ did their jobs and kept me toasty. I was glad to have the...
I still want to do a patch for the original one night a month for 12 months. Anyone good at art can shoot me a design & i will produce & distribute.
I will also put forth an additional challenge...
