Hi Dave, I've had my XL for several years and although I don't use it much, it is a great tarp if you're facing miserable weather. On the last trip I used it on, most of the time I used it folded in...

Hi Dave, I've had my XL for several years and although I don't use it much, it is a great tarp if you're facing miserable weather. On the last trip I used it on, most of the time I used it folded in...
How tall are you? I'm 6 feet tall and I can sleep diagonally if my Fronline hammock (same size as the camping) is loose enough. If it's really tight then I can't. This took quite a bit of playing...
I only find my Frontline comfortable if it's used with a mat inside. I bought an underblanket and although the UB is nice and warm I find the hammock itself is uncomfortable due to the ridge that has...
Got a 4.5 x 3m DD XL tarp and a 3 x 2.5m tarp (unknown). This could be the deal breaker on a new tarp for me: 3x3 (new) and camo (new). :)
I love my Touch and have used it camping and while backpacking in India recently. It's great for passing time on planes and in waiting around in airports. Here's a pic of our tarp cinema system from...
Hi Mike. There are a quite a few people from BCUK over on here.
My main tarp is 3 metres x 4.5 metres which is a similar I guess. I love how much coverage it gives. In winter you can fashion 'doors' and in warmer weather can have a huge amount on living space. My...
I don't know about Dave, but I don't use it with my head inside it. I have it pulled tight under my chin and around the back of my shoulders.
I quite like the look of insultex (don't know how...
Whenever you've had condensation inside the tube, where has the dampness been? When I've noticed some it's been at the foot end, underneath my feet. The parts around my body are always bone dry. I...
I would think that any regular rectangular tarp would work well for both uses. I usually use my 3m x 4.5m (DD) tarp. It's great over my hammock and you can also make some great large shelters for 2+...
Hi bigdave, it's good to see someone else trying out, and enjoying, the Blizzard Tube. I like your pics. To other people reading, these things are not the same as the thin mylar survival...
I got the idea for the underblanket from a post over at BushcraftUK where someone had made one with a poncho as an outer. For a few pounds I thought I'd have a go at trying to make one and it was...
A good trip report. The scenery near you is beautiful. It's good to see bike stuff on here also.
Thanks. I got the idea for the tube from a guy on here that uses them.
at my local woods. Friday was really wet here in London but we decided to go out anyway as the rain stopped and the next day was predicted to be nice. I wanted to test out some new gear (homemade...
You can take the webbing out, double it over and tie knots in it. At the hammock end, tie a loop with some other webbing and onto this you can attach a karabiner. The original webbing then wraps...
I would have thought so, as long as they are positioned well enough so that the bottom one doesn't compress the one above it. It should be really snug.
If you had 2 of them the repack size would be huge. Okay if you're car camping but not if you have to pack them into something. I'm sure 2 would be pretty warm though.
It's getting a but chilly...
I'm not sure if this is the right place for this as it's top insulation, bottom insulation, weather protection and a review. (Mods: feel free to move to a more appropriate place.)
Here’s a brief...
Hi LJ, there are a few of us from the UK over here on this site, most are usually on BCUK also. I found the same thing as you regarding sleeping out: even a super thick Thermarest isn't as comfy as a...
I've been using mine doubled up with knots tied in to form loops which I hook a carabiner into. I can't say that I've noticed much stretch.
I've noticed an difference when I seal myself in my hammock, wrapping it all around me and pegging it closed. Just having the thin layer of silk all the way around definitely creates a microclimate....
Nice little video.
I'm using climbing tube tape: 1 - 19mm with a breaking strain of 1000lbs
2 - 26mm with a breaking strain if 1600lbs (this one is slippery...hope I don't have...
Tried it all last night and all worked well.
Syb: The chairs actually fold up quite small and give me something to relax in around camp.:)
I find that CCF pads form ridges underneath me that are uncomfortable when in the hammock. Thermarest/inflatable pads sit better underneath me.
CCF is cheaper and lighter though.
Therma's pack...
Do you know of these rap rings from Needlesports? They're over here on our side of the pond. They look good quality: cheaper and stronger than the slingrings.
Another vote for the ipod Touch.
I saw one of these on a site a few weeks ago over on Ibiza. It looked good.
I find plain 550 cord is fine.
Just got back from a few weeks over in Ibiza, Spain. Both of the sites I was on were hammock-able. The one in Cala Bassa especially so. I'll attach a pic.
The majority of UK sites and Euro ones...
Another one in the south, here in north London.
Hi everyone, here's a quick report on my 1st night moving up from bivis on the ground up into the trees. We wildcamped in some woodland here in London that we go to regularly and have bivied in...
Nice GS mate. I had one for years. Great pics of the trip.
Hi guys, just come over to the hammock 'thing' recently after many years of looking in from the ground-dwelling bivi bag + tarp life. I picked up 2 models to be trying out: the DD Travel and the...
