Replaced those heavy ropes on mine (same hammock) with amsteel continuous loops, then use titanium hooks, and whoopie slings, and tree straps all from dutchware. Works great.

I'm also rather new as well, but I've been using a Yukon Outfitter hammock and that same rain fly for a few overnight/backyard hangs now. What I've found is that the trap is pretty solid for $20...
