Hello from Marietta. Is there gold in them hills?
I tried this a little while back with a hammock gear incubator and it was surprisingly effective. The best part about the way I did it was that you could always revert back to the stock way. Here's...
I forgot how far you were willing to drive, but the South Cumberland area in tennesse is nice and peaceful. It's a little north of Chattanooga but less than a 2 hour drive straight up 75 from...
There is tons of secluded stuff around the Ocoee river whitewater center. All the way to big frog. I think they call the area Tanasi. It is in Tennessee but It should only take 1.5 hours to get...
Welcome from Marietta.
I'm still using mine over 6 years later, and it is still in great shape. I'm not sure it's big enough for 2 to sleep under but it definitely is big enough for a couple to sit around under if it's...
Here's my setup from tarp to ground.
-Tarp tie out
-Small loop of shock cord
-Lineloc3
-4.5 ft Lawson glow wire w/ loop on the end
-MSR mini ground hog
The line locs allow for tightening...
Hello from Marietta.
Zing-it soft shackles prussic wrapped 3 times on zing-it ridge line.
I run underneath for all the reasons stated here...
Structurally more sound.
Easier to center.
Hang stuff, like a small lamp, under tarp.
Easy to hang still left in snake skins and...
Another hello from Marietta.
Welcome. I also started with a sleeping bag, an ENO and a thermarest pad. I'm from Atlanta, Georgia and hike mostly in the damp southeast... BUT I have hiked some in the Quinalt area... in...
Fallen leaves is pretty neat.
If you guys are ever interested in seeing /trying out gear before you buy, there are quite a few of us in the area and I am always willing to share. Just let me know.
Hola from Mayretta !
Hello from Marietta. Don't get hung up on brands and cool stuff. Just get out there and hang. You will figure it out along the way.
I was in the area last weekend and there were no bugs.
I have hiked here a lot and it is very beautiful. You really can't go wrong with any routes in the area. Just be aware that trails around the rim are pretty easy but travel down into the gulf...
I have access to a regular and a short incubator, so if you change your mind just let me know.
I'm a hiker that lives in Marietta and does 90% of my hiking in the southeast. I'm 5'10" and my feet get cold easily. I really try to find the lightest options possible and I obsessed about 3/4 vs...
I have never been to a group hang but this seems like a perfect reason to organize one.
Here is one of Stick's...
You can just replace his items with yours and it will still give your breakdowns by categories and totals.

Sticksblog.com used to have a great version.
Yeah I love the one I got from hammock gear and the weight and compressibility is pretty much on par with an inflatable but much more comfortable.
That is exactly why I bought it and it's perfect for base or car camping. It is super bombproof.
It's not ultralight but I have had good luck with a KNT16 (Kelty Noah's Tarp 16x16) covering 2 hammocks. I don't have any pics but we used 2 parallel ridgelines under the tarp about 3 feet apart...
Welcome from Marietta.
I really enjoyed the his and hers take on the everything. Keep up the good work.
Intimidator and Ol' Papa Arrowhead are correct. You really can't go wrong with an underquilt, no matter the width. The only real questions are... down vs synthetic and 3/4 vs full? You will be...
That is pretty cool. How does something like that work? They supply the stands? And hammocks? Or is BYOH and stand?

This is after about a dozen nights on the...
The ones I originally did with the black magnum have faded some and look pretty similar to your "camo look". I'll post another pic of mine when I get home.
Another welcome from Marietta. You shouldn't have a problem hanging anywhere in Georgia unless you are hanging from the front porch of a ranger station.
I'll be honest, I posted earlier but I haven't read the entire thread since then, BUT...
Now that we know Jeremy's okay, I'd like to ask the question of EVERYONE involved... Is there anything you...
I'm 5'10" 200lb and wish I had got a wide.
I like grey or black for the hammock body but only for very scientific reasons.
Reason being when I wake up in the morning and bury my head from the daylight, it still looks like the inside of my...
Welcome... From another Josh in Atlanta.
I bought a macat ultra 6ish years ago and I had no problems. Still has the original seem seal and works great. Great tarp.
I know he used to run it all by himself while still in college. Sorry to...
You really could not go wrong either way. There is a little fiddle factor when you're talking about the Phoenix. Personally, my feet get cold in anything under 40... so I opted for the incubator....
I have always wondered if it was just a generic name also.
I don't think No-See-Ums is an official genus/species/blah blah... So knowing if that means just something I can't see or something...
1. long incubator
2. no width issues
3. 20 degree all the way. I'm in the south and still use it 90% of the time
Thank you very much for those links. I did not know this.
Notice : any data contained in this thread regarding Kevlar materials is my anecdotal experiences only and does not include any long term...
That's how mine are stored, just not on a window sill. I usually leave them wound up in my pack.
I would say keep it as simple as possible at first until you hang a few times you won't really know what you need.
Blackbird should be good to go out of the box.
Superfly will just need...
I'm 5'10" and I love my 20 degree short incubator with 1oz overstuff in foot end. I think anything smaller would not be enough coverage for me as I get cold feet.
You really can't go wrong. It just depends on what your looking for... All of the rim trails have good views and you should definitely make reservations for the sites in advance to get the good ones....
Ooh my bad. Yeah, I paid $25. Complete brain shart.
With regard to no "halfway" sites, I think he was talking specifically about fiery gizzard. Savage gulf has plenty. All of the hiking around the rim is pretty easy and the views and sites are pretty...
Honestly, I didn't read the whole thread, but... I have always been pretty anti-pillow even in a normal bed. Recently though, I bought a hammock gear pillow and I love it. At home... in the...
South Cumberland State Park still has Savage Gulf, Stone Door, Hobbs Cabin and Greeter Falls. You could easily make a pretty long route connecting those sites and camp multiple nights.
