There are so many good brands I'll let others guide you but I do have a recommendation about options and accessories. If you don't splurge and get a walking foot machine (most are commercial grade)...
That is really close to what I'm dreaming of... That shape with a little more head room... I notice you're using y-poles on the corners to maintain the shape. Does it work without the additional...
Good Suggestions... I see the Eureka for sale on ebay for under $70... I was hanging with my GF at the beach and we were sharing an oversized bug net and it was less than desirable. I think I'll...
FYI: I'm also dreaming about a large Wall Tent for a family to camp in that would take advantage of the Armchairs short hang length and gives side access.
Hammock Wall Tent - Netted or 1oz sides...
I bought 3 Kelty Noah 12ft tarps and have plans to use one for the top, then cut the end doors, triangle arch and low side from each of the other two.

This design is easy because almost...
I've been kicking this idea around for a wall tent style tarp and thought I'd see what others think about it.
What if you hung your tarp high and wide and attached a skirt to the ground on all...
Good Video! First time I've heard of hanging with (parallel to) the wind... and it makes sense...
I'll make an effort to work on some sort of trial/rental thing... The goal would be to get Armchair Hammocks out in the hammocking community, get feedback and at best cover mailing. I'm also not too...
I'm very enthusiastic about the design but even I will admit it won't be for everyone. It won't be a big roomy hammock or a flat bridge. It is very small and light, comfortable, works for couples and...
What do you think of a rental program for the prototypes? I need pics and feedback so I think it could be a Win Win... I'd be happy to set aside several sets to let people try them (particularly to...
I really appreciate the feed back and encouragement! I'm hearing 3 issuses: Foot Support, Narrow and Double Layer...
The foot well sounds like it has lots of skeptics but it is designed that way...
1. The warm comfortable feeling of sleeping next to someone is lost when it is hot.
2. You need a bug net when sleeping near the beach in the spring time. (We had one but I wasn't happy with the...
Sorry to come in with a negative but I've stopped using carbon fiber toggles. I've crushed and bent several and gave up on them. I am a big guy so it may work for some but not me.

Thanks for the question... Here's an easy test to see if it is for you. Lay on your bed and let your feet hang off the end... you'll get a feeling of what it's like to rest with you feet unsupported....
Getting the first manufacturing prototype delivered this week. We went with a double layer to accommodate a sleeping pad/mattress and for added reliability. We are still well under the 10 oz mark....
I'm going to do a kickstarter later this year with super short hammock and short hang length. I've posted here many times and you can find the idea at...
No response here but elsewhere people seem to favor a double layer that will accommodate a pad like a NeoAir xlite.
I'll keep posting when we do our first batch!
I'm trying to get a test batch made and am wondering what is most important to you?
It has been narrowed down to four choices. What would you choose?
Singles = Lightest, 6-8oz, under quilt...
Here are some update photos: Side sleeping and couples hanging

I'd like to do a kickstarter later this year to get funding for the first production run. Right now and am trying to finalize the design and decide on single or double layers, weight, and insulated...
Everyone was having a good time... The dogs especially love hiking! The little one can go 10 miles and still runs to the car at the end.
The design is intentionally 5 inches shorter than your...
Had a chance to test out some Armchair Hammocks on a trip to Alabama's Talladega National Forest with several couples giving it a try. Thought I'd share...

Thanks for the invite Floridahanger!
I'll pack up a variety of Armchair Hammocks to demo and head down tomorrow. I even convinced my niece Emily to come with me. We won't get in til late but...
What a great invite! Let me see what I can do... I think my girlfriend has plans but my roommate is usually up for an adventure.
If I can make it down I'll bring several Armchair Hammocks for...
Just wanted to thank everyone for their feedback... I'm still working at this project which is continually improving (after the continually frustrating parts).
I'm trying to get a reliable,...
I too am much happier when I'm away from other campers... Another reason hammocks are so great because you can head out past the camping pads to find your spot...
This is exactly what I was looking for! Good info, links, videos.... Love this site!
Thought I'd share a great post by sir_n0thing that was in one of the links...

Had a great weekend at Carters Lake testing out the Armchair Hammock prototype. The hammocks make for a great couples hang keeping you under one tarp, side by side and warm.
Still working on...
So far I'm out every month, Fall Sprawl, MAHHA and after Thanksgiving with the Palmetto State Hangers.
Like the idea! It's the push I need to make sure I get out in the woods...
Actually the design is based on your feet hanging off the end so they can turn and twist unrestricted. That means you could have a 5ft hammock with a ridge line approx 7ft.
I haven't set up a ridgeline yet... The Hammock is less than 6ft and the Dog Bone ropes at the corners are 2ft... So the hammock is 10ft and with the curve a rough estimate for a structural ridgeline...
Had a great time at the FALL MAHHA! I was able to set up 3 armchair hammocks with different cuts and fabrics and received a lot of positive comments and even more important, constructive criticism. ...
The Coleman base is mine... Funny enough, my father didn't mention tripping when he said he lost the base (although I wouldn't have either...). Please use/give away/pitch what ever makes sense. It...
Sounds like there is enough interest to look into dates! Carters Lake group site doesn't open till May so I'll reach out and see what dates are available!
I've got plans (hopefully this week before Fall MAHHA) to make a Foot-bag that wraps around the hammock which is then connected to a blanket that you can pull up over you. I'm going to make it out of...

Hiked Raven Cliffs last weekend and was able to get a model for the Armchair Hammock in the side position (kind of).

Picked several up to make insulated armchair hammocks. I wanted to test it before sewing so I slept with one last night with the windows open, 60 degrees and ceiling fan on. The weight and finish are...
Great idea! Is it cheating if you live in the South and only pick nights above freezing?
Had a great weekend out with the Georgia Adventure Group at Fort Yargo (GA). Ended up doing a stress test I wasn't expecting. It poured down rain in a 3 hr thunderstorm in the middle of the night.
