Wife decided I needed to bring some pulled pork BBQ so I just put some pork shoulders on the smoker. Now to make up some sauces.
Finally got signed up, been Backpacking in Wyoming the last couple of weeks. Will bring 8 dozen farm fresh eggs for breakfasts along with 2 burner stove and other utensils, 5 gal water jug.
Have done the loop three times, and as I remember it seems that a hammock would be able to be utilized in all the spots I stayed at. Just watch for widow makers.
Thanks for that info, may have to take a tent.
Mid to end of August, cant get permits for some areas until after August 15 to allow for water levels to go down. Have searched and called numerous government agencies to no avail concerning...
I am planning this hike next year and would rather hammock than tent. Also, does anyone know of any shuttle service there to get from one end of the trail to the other so I don't have to shuttle?
As stated above it is a good idea to try some setups out before deciding. My first hammock was a 1.7 fabric (Warbonnet Blackbird XML) that was too stiff for me and I did not sleep well, I got a...
Finally getting my act together and getting gear ready. Just added to the food list, I will bring down 8 dozen farm fresh eggs and some Texas Chili.
Had a storm one night on Roan Mountain that the wind blew so hard and it seemed like from so many directions that I actually had mud on the inside top of my tarp. Friends with me in tents had mud...
20* in green bag 0* in grey bag169394
20* ? I have a 20* TQ and had a TQ and UQ done with 5oz extra down to take them to 0*. I usually just cram them into the bottom of my pack but I can put the 20* in a stuff sack and try to get a photo...

I think I might have gotten the better weekend scar though.
Glad you made it ok, that front tire wasn’t looking like it would go far.
I have been there 3 times, you should have plenty of good trees for hanging. Watch out for porcupines, they will eat anything with salt on it, boots, handles of treking poles, etc.
Welcome from Verona, there is also a group hang at Grayson Highlands the last weekend in September. I will be taking my wife for her first hammock outing.
Thank you, I guess I will have to get one. I am currently using my WL 15* 3/4 length for summer, I also have a WL full length 0*. Just looking for less bulk and weight for summer.
Sent from my...
Does anyone have any issues with the WL summer series being almost 10" narrower that other underquilts?

Some good maps here https://wvhighlands.org/cranberry-wilderness-24k-trail-maps/ For the Cranberry Wilderness.
Ok, found it. I had been on the Shenandoah Trail North of 250 around the Ramseys Draft area but not south. The Bath county reference threw me off as I knew much of it was in Augusta and Highland...
Animal, do you have any more information on that trail, can't seem to find anything on it.
This site has a lot of information you may be able to use. https://www.hikingupward.com/maps/
Day hike North River Gorge, Ramseys Draft (day or overnight).
Alright, now I am thinking about how to attach a whoopee hook to my beetle buckle after my hammock is set up. I am not much on original thoughts.
Wow, people have to ask questions like this, now I have to look at Dutch Bling to replace the two old carabiners I am using for my gear hammock. :D How much more Dutchware can I buy.
Well, I pulled the trigger on a 1.0 and here it is. Feels nice, softer than my WBBBXLC. Now I just have to spend the night in it.

Part of my thinking is possibly a softer lay. I sometimes think my WBBB is too stiff as some nights I get a bit of pain in my back where a bull stepped on me in a rodeo back in 77 and broke a batch...
OK, I am looking at a Chameleon and am wondering if I should go with Hexon 1.0 or 1.6. I am fat now (winter weight) at 155 lb. but usually run 140-145 range. I currently have a WBBB XLC 1.7 single. I...
Laurel Fork of the Potomac, Park at the trail head for Bear Wallow Trail, it follows Bear Wallow Creek down to the Laurel Fork 3 miles. Easy walk. From there you can go down river a bit, some nice...
Welcome from Verona.
Looks good, looking forward to seeing it in the field.
My wife has ask me if she could join me on this trip, she has not backpacked with me since sometime in the 80's. I guess I will have to set her up in one of my tents and let her try out my hammock on...
Porch mode I use my trekking poles extended the full way, wrap my tieouts around the top of my poles and tie out.

Gunnery Sergeant (Gunny) in the United States Marine Corps. Gunny was already taken (Must be a lot of Gunnery Sergeant's out there) so I added the year I pinned on my stripes, 1985. Trail name is...
I am new to this also and I got the Superfly, as crazy rain and wind seem to follow me around. My first hammock trip saw much rain and 30 MPH winds and the superfly kept me dry and blocked the wind....
34" inseam, that was a good sitting height.

This is my hang on the third night.
[QUOTE=bog01;1643110]You had your feet in the footbox?
Almost sounds like you had a ridge popping up and hitting you in the ribs. Never experienced that in my xlc if it was hung right and I was...
Well, end of my third night in the hammock. Warmth was no problem, even with high winds and rain. Problem is, that no matter how I laid, I had incredible pain in my ribs on my left side. I had others...

[QUOTE=dudeman_atl;1641423]Ear plugs, mandatory.
I usually just take out my hearing aids.
If already know, set it up in the yard, next morning came out to see my straps still hanging on the trees I used.
No, unfortunately I have not had a chance to sleep in it yet, too busy with work and taking care of horses. Have set it up and laid in it and seemed to get comfortable in it. That could be part of...
Top insulation will be one on my many goose down bags opened up as a quilt, that is the way I have been using them lately in a tent. Once I decide how I want to go in top quilts, I will probably...
Not like I'm new to backpacking, been doing it since the late 60's, but this is my first hammock trip. In the last 5 days I received by BB XLC, a superfly tarp and a Wilderness Logics Underquilt. I...
Been raining a lot in the Sods the last couple of weeks, Dobbin grade was a total swamp last week, plan on doing the bypass,
Just ordered mine yesterday, can't wait for Its arrival.
Ok, been looking at Hammock's for awhile now. Friends I backpack on a regular basis with have made the switch and sitting under their tarps in porch mode during a rain storm this past weekend and...
