Wow, I'd love to see the range of fabric available for printing expanded. is there any prospect of seeing printing on Membrane 10?

Lengthwise baffles are very effective in my opinion, in particular when ground sleeping there seems to be fewer issues with down shift whereas with crosswise or horizontal baffles the down can shift...
The calendared HyperD fabric does have a DWR coating as listed on the RBTR website. It's not necessary to have DWR on the inner fabric if you don't want it but the only really light downproof fabric...
You can get these from DIY gear supply: http://diygearsupply.com/product/low-profile-center-release-buckle/
I'd say get the thin webbing version for pad straps. These are 3/4" and I believe EE use...
Apparently they make pretty much whatever weight you want if you buy enough.
Ah I forgot to update this thread with my thoughts. I'll preface my comments by saying that I've used many of the lightweight fabrics for down gear that are available for DIY including Argon 67 & 90,...
Yep it's the sort of thing that doesn't bother some but is infuriating for others. I find that sort of thing a bit annoying so I've made my quilts with the drawstring exiting at the edges of the...
ZPacks used to offer DWR down as an option but they stopped doing it and had a statement to the effect that some customers had problems with clumping and they didn't find the benefits of DWR down...
I believe you're referring to the 1.0oz Nylon Taffeta sold by RBTR, which is calendared and with DWR coating and designed for making down gear. Either fabric will work well for making a quilt, the...
Really nice work! Just a couple of comments:
I've read a few comments about some water resistant treated downs being more clumpy and harder to get to loft. Z-Packs cited this as one reason they...
Ouch! I hope no one was under the tarp when the branch fell. Still, that's one way to market a heavier fabric.
Nice! It's great to have more options in fabric weights. Any chance this will see the PU4000 coating treatment? That would make it a great durable floor material when not hanging.
Bit of a late reply but I have some of the Ventum fabric although I haven't made anything from it yet. My impression is that it's a top quality fabric and will do the job of a quilt shell very well....
Ah, so there is a slight difference. I hope you can make it down under one day Hunter55.
If it is the uncalendered version for hammocks then both sides are the same. The calendered version for making down gear has shiny and dull sides and the shiny side faces the down.
Looks good so far, and that's an awesome way of marking out the fabric. How much down are you planning to use? Also a fine universal needle works well for these fabrics as well in my experience, just...
Well moss green sounds slightly more interesting... I await pictures!
I noticed the new colors are up, titanium and charcoal grey plus khaki and dark olive and I assume the product photos will be updated soon to show the new offerings. Not really what I was hoping for...
Any hints on when an announcement on the new fabric will be coming? Any hints on what category of fabric we are talking about (hammock, tarp, quilt, bug net, pack or other)...
Just confirms what we already knew from practical experience, great fabric. Is the 90 getting tested as well?
Why are you wanting a polyester fabric? UV resistance for long term setup or stretch? Nylon is generally a stronger material at a given weight, stretch can be mitigated by self tensioning guylines...
Well I'll be looking forward to seeing what the surprise is in that case.
It's specced at 0.67oz/sq.yd finished weight and this seems accurate within the error of my imprecise measuring and weighing of the pieces I've received.
Also bump for my color question now Dutch...
I'd make an 11 foot double layer gathered end NylonD 1.0 and 1.6 hammock with whoopie sling and Dutch bling suspension.
Materials:
4 yds NylonD 1.6 olive green
4 yds NylonD 1.0 blue
3x spools...
Any word on what the new colors of Argon 67 will be and when they will be available?
Awesome contest! I'll make a 3 season top quilt with a two toned outer shell in Argon 90 red and purple with an Argon 67 taffeta black inner. The footbox will be sewn in 20" deep with differential...
I don't think you'll beat Downlinens for fresh bulk down, and the other mentioned sources are good if you need smaller amounts. I've used down from the 'My Luxe' pillows I got off ebay and found it...
Boston hit it when he said the problem with Argon (or other woven fabrics) is that it will fray, so you either need to hem it, melt the edge or leave a larger sewing margin. No-see-um netting is a...
Thanks for the responses Paul and Kyle, sounds like a fantastic fabric. Perhaps I could just ask Kyle if the Blaze Orange Membrane 10 fabric is supposed to be dyed the same colour as the burnt Orange...
Very nice work, that's real quick for a first effort. Keep the momentum up and press on to the finish! BTW what fabric and down did you use?
This sounds excellent Kyle and congratulations on the launch, I'm unreasonably excited by new quilt fabric launches. I do have a couple of questions though, firstly are the colours you are offering...
I prefer to have the baffles right up to the outer seam but I don't think it's a big issue with small gaps. Some deliberately leave gaps so they can redistribute the down if needed.
Just had a closer look at the calculator, there's a random +2 added to some of the cutting dimensions. Not sure what it's intended to be there for. The calculator is a useful tool to help plan out a...
OK, I think there's something funny with the TQ calculator, it seems to have been edited and I don't seem to get the same results with it now that I did a year ago. Anyway for a top quilt I really...
A high wattage, temp controlled soldering iron with a cutting tip is a world away from a crappy cheap iron so depending on what you used it might be worth pursuing that route further. If the cutting...
Nice work! Just wondering where you ordered the down? Always good to know of more sources...
That's a good summary of information Kyle and I'm glad you're doing the work on fabric development and testing. Just wondering if this is pre-empting any new products from you as you say in the blog...
You probably want a breathable fabric such as the Argon 67 or Argon 90 at dutchwaregear or other similar fabrics available elsewhere. The breathable fabric lets your perspiration escape so you don't...
I think you should reconsider the UGQ renegade, I think it looks excellent and is one of the most advanced designs and it's the tool that's designed for the job. In my experience the area where you...
Fair enough, you've got a great suite of colors to choose from that you've already used for other fabrics. I am partial to the brick red and although it isn't bright I think navy would be a great...
Any chance you could let slip a little about what those new colours might be?
Good to know you have your fabric tested, ever thought of selling to the DIY market?
Anyway I just got a bit crazy and ordered some of both the Ventum and 2015 M50 MR fabrics so once I get my...
Thanks Paul, that's some great experience you're sharing with us. I heard from Thru-Hiker that the 2015 run M50 fabric is more breathable and consequently a bit less wind/water resistant than...
Here you go: https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php/48444-DIY-Down-Top-Quilt-Measurement-Spreadsheet
As for baffle spacing etc I've made a few quilts and my advice is to go for more...
I just got confirmation from Paul at Thru-Hiker that the 2015 M50 MR fabric is more breathable than previous runs of the fabric. It sounds like this will be a better balance between wind/water...
I wouldn't be surprised if it's a bit different from past runs as you have to work hard to maintain consistency and with a gap of a year or so between runs you'd have to expect variation. How did you...
Thanks for sharing your experience, I've emailed Thru-Hiker to ask if there is any difference between the 2015 run M50 and previous runs. I'm tempted to just order some of the ventum fabric and see...
Hi all, I'm wondering if anyone has used the above fabrics and can offer an opinion on them. I've used both the Argon 67 and 90 fabrics extensively and I love those fabrics and will continue to use...
Thanks guys! These were quilts 6 and 7 for me so I've had time to refine the design. On the footbox I sewed in an oval shaped bottom that is fully baffled and the bottom 4 chambers that also form...
Just wanted to Update this thread with some images of down quilts made with the new colours of Argon 90. I just finished up a couple of quilts with the olive brown and Victoria blue Argon 90 fabrics...
