Typical Mar/Apr weather in the Smokies - could be beautiful or could be as cold as the depths of winter. Great photos. I've spent weeks in GSMNP but haven't yet made it to LeConte.
Thanks for this info guys, the bridge was there and gone before I ever took my first visit to Linville but I love learning about the history.
I've heard all kinds of stories about that bridge -...
How long did the bridge exist for? I thought it was a pretty short period after construction before it got washed away. I’ve gone down to the river before with plans to cross and bailed, it isn’t...
Everyone has their thing I guess, any of us could get in an accident on the road tomorrow. But yeah, for me they were looking crazy down in the water!
Thanks Rod. Fortunately for us we only had to look at the crossings and not attempt them, never would’ve made it with the river that high

In November 2022 we met up for a backpack in the Linville Gorge Wilderness. We had planned this trip for a long time and were raring to get out into the woods....
Looks like a beautiful area out there for a getaway. Can’t beat a relaxing night in the hammock combined with some good fishing
This site needs an NSFW tag as a warning for that t*nt pic. Sounds like y’all hit that URE sweet spot before it gets hot & buggy!
Awesome story Drift! Really cool way to discover Hanson's Point and you can't beat it when that morning mist is popping.
I was fortunate that my buddy knew some of the area's secrets well and had...
His ability is impressive! To him it is just normal. He's done a lot of the AT like that

My first ever visit to Kentucky was a 3-day backpacking adventure in the Red River Gorge Geological Area of Daniel Boone National Forest. My buddy Scott lives in the...
Great report, sounds like you overcame a bunch of challenges along the way to accomplish this trip. A classic cold & windy November weekend in the Gorge. We encountered the same (surprising to us)...
Nice report, thanks for sharing. I haven’t done the VA Triple Crown yet myself it’s on the to-do list
Nice pics, sounds like a good trip. Always fun to get back out after some time off
Thanks Paul - this video was filmed in 4k with a DJI Osmo Action & exported in 4k to the highest bitrate allowed by YouTube
SoMo is definitely worth checking out! I head down there every year or 2, usually in the wintertime

At the beginning of this backpacking season my buddy Joey and I headed down to South Mountains State Park for a 3-day trip. South Mountains is North Carolina’s...
Sounds like a nice family outing on a beautiful lake
Was beautiful weather for a hang if y’all were out this past weekend
Uwharrie is a great place to get away and relax! Enjoy your visit out there
Sounds like a great time section hiking along the FHT! That laurel valley area is very pretty. For whatever reason it usually takes me longer to break down my hammock setup than it does when I am...
That sounds like quite the adventure, and not at all out of the norm for that area. Even for me in the summer on day 3 it hailed. Hope you get to make it back in better times to fully enjoy Roan
The climb up to the Sterling fire tower is hard work but the view is always worth it. Awesome cloud action in your photos from the sunrise!
I haven't been out to the Laurel Falls way or to the Damascus stretch. If they are as good as Roan, Grayson Highlands and Max Patch to Hot Springs I might have to check them out
You and me both, a special area
Roan might be the most unpredictable weather in NC (in my opinion). It’s just different up there and each bald can have their own separate thing going on at any given time. My first trip to Roan...
You’re spot on! There are multiple “false summits” on the trek up to Big Hump. They can be disheartening but they also give one the chance to take a quick break and turn around to soak in the view.
...
Yes this is a very popular stretch of the AT for section hikers and day hikers alike

The Roan Highlands are a unique section of the Appalachian Trail and one of the best backpacking destinations east of the Mississippi! In 1898 John Muir visited the...
Very cool (literally), thanks for sharing. I hope to do some winter camping like this in the snow one day. Great to hear the experience of someone new to it and what you learned.
Thanks G! I use the DJI Osmo Action. Does everything a GoPro does at half the price with none of the audio issues that the Hero 9 had.
Thanks for watching Pippi! Glad you enjoyed
It is a pretty area! Good luck
You're right there has a little more of the feeling of exploration
Great report and what a 3rd date!
Thanks as always Seth! Next month’s video will see me out in Yellowstone, quote a difference from Little Dry Run
Nice 1-2 punch, Linville & Uwharrie! Glad y’all got to have a good time and see some pretty sights. I’ve heard before that the creeks in Uwharrie have some of the best water quality in the state.

Over the summer I visited the Little Dry Run Wilderness of the Mt Rogers National Recreation area of the Jefferson National Forest of Virginia. I picked this location...
Nice report Geronimo. Very cool that you got to meet Fresh Ground, he is one of the most famous trail angels. Did you see many thru hikers this time of year? He must have been catering to SoBos.

Sounds like you had a good time and got to test a lot of new gear even if things didn’t stick to the original plan. Packing light is key, but can be extra difficult for newbies - heavier gear,...
Looks like a beautiful trip. I’ve been through that are several times. Deep Creek was Horace Kephart’s favorite part of the Smokies.
Beautiful area and video Seth. Sounds like an intense bout you had there, definitely a good reminder to stay hydrated. Did your sack/ridgeline bag hold strong throughout the night? Smart multi-use of...
Looks like a pretty area. The Red River Gorge is on my list of places I want to check out. Thanks for sharing
Very cool that your 15 year old backpacked with you! Glad that my video could play a small role in making that happen and y'all had a good trip. Thanks for sharing the details on the trip with your...
You're totally right, all of these areas can vary greatly by season. I do love that about the Southern Appalachians - we get 4 full seasons and they are all special in their own way. Thanks for...
Looks like a beautiful trip and a fun time. Grayson is already one of the most scenic places around, then add in the ponies and it is just special.
Very apropos username for this convo Paul!
You and me both! Valuable lesson learned, check gear closely before setting out
Yes sir geronimo you are correct. This one good deed from the Black Folks Camp Too can be multiplied many times over
