I did end up getting a 40 degree TW which also stacks readily with HG UQ. I like the HG on the outside since the TW is larger and I get more down loft that way.
I am a bit surprised how thin...
Love the orange / grey color combo! Looks warm and comfy
I also never bother with UQ hooks. Just have never needed them. The mini binder CL attachment and taut shock cord of the suspension keeps it all right where I need it.
I find using them more trouble than they are worth so I never bother. Some folks love them however. They make for nice pictures of empty hammocks. :)
I think in this case, the best is the enemy of the good.
Turns out that my very first hammock was all I really needed, but I bought 5 more just to make sure I guess! :)
It’s all a learning...
Cool idea chromedome. I sometimes do something similar with quilt storage sack. I walk one end of the fully loaded hammock to the other and attach. Then stuff the whole thing into the sack and...
Interesting discussion. I have an apex UQ and down UQ. I've experimented in various configurations and my favorite so far is to have the apex on the inside with the down on the outside.
I have...
I thought my heart was going to explode one moonlight night.
I had hung my pack on a tree next to me and put a bag over it since I thought it might rain. Chest height or so, close to the hammock....
It might be worth sending Jared an email. He is amazingly responsive and I'm sure could advise you on the size or even custom length it for you. Everything I've ordered from him has been made to...
That's a great story. I never truly appreciated how much the moon appears to move throughout the night before hammock camping. Glad you didn't have a heart attack!
For me, they basically are. I can grab any of my hammocks and be comfortable and not regret my decision. Some folks have a difficult time finding a hammock they are comfortable with however.

I keep the adjustments the same, rarely changing them until I notice that they’ve become loose. I usually tie a knot on the shock cord to keep the adjustment stable.
Folks,
When I was a ground dweller, winter camping was out of the question for me. I'd been in cold (no snow) weather in a tent before and no way was I going to try ice and snow.
I just spent...
I replaced my old headlamp with a Nitecore NU25. Whoa! It was like getting new glasses. That thing can get super bright and I really like that it is rechargeable from a cord I usually carry for my...
Yeah - glad to hear a success story!
One thing that I really like about down is that I never get too hot even when over-insulated. I mean, I have sweat in synthetic bags due to too much heat. ...
No whoopies for me - I had enough milking (cows) as a kid! :)
I want it as open as possible when there is little wind or mild rain. Nothing like sitting in the hammock with a nice cup of coffee and taking in nature all around you. Once it's dark, however, I...
The netless one probably comes with a string to prevent it from floating away! :)
The larksheads has been my go favorite for decades now. Easy to do, easy to undo, never had a problem.
So versatile and fast. You can attach to a knot, a stop, another loop, a limb, carabiner,...
That I prefer netless hammocks
I have one more for wind. If I'm pretty sure that it will not rain or be overly moistI don't bother deploying the tarp, but have a sock/cover if the wind gets uncomfortable and I don't want to mess...
I started with a OneWind hammock as my first and I still use it and lend it out. Eventually bought their entire system. You can't beat the price and the quality and design is great. The design and...
The SLD TW is my favorite quilt. Just hook it on to both ends and you are done, no fiddling. It's basically an insulated gathered end hammock under your actual hammock so it fits snug like a...
I've wondered about this. Why not wrap the straps around multiple times in order to create a very wide strap? Seems like it would work if you have the extra strap.
Where I camp the trees are so...
It can be a dog-eat-dog world out there! :).
I think that Dutch has identified a new form of hammock entertainment. Extreme Hammocking - I'd tune in weekly.
I know that you are likely tired of more advice at this point, but here goes.
Are you using decent top insulation? I found a huge difference when I switched from a sleeping bag to a top quilt. ...
So many good comments, I may have to pick one of these up yet!
I am planning a long road trip driving down the coast, mostly car camping with a few excursions here and there. Their stand would...
I got lost in Idaho once. No idea where I was but I was traveling down dirt twisty roads with nothing much in site - it was gorgeous. No cell service and sadly no detailed map of the area as well.

Just keep this awesome thread going.
I have a few insights in stacking my 20 degree TW and 40 degree HQ UQ. Recently slept out in in 35 degree so really didn't need to stack anything, but I...
One thing I've noticed with my HG and UQs that have this sort of suspension is that I am much warmer when I get a good flat lay in the hammock. I think it makes sense - you are flattening out and...
I have the dutchware pillow which is not down. I keep it in my pack since I have multiple hammocks that I might use, but only one pillow.
If nothing else it might be a good experiment to...
One thing a tent definitely has an advantage for is when multiple people want to sit around and play cards, eat together indoors, whatever.
Camping last summer I ran in to a family that had 4...
I’m with you. It’s not a race for me. I go out there to relax and enjoy nature which a hammock helps with immensely. I actually enjoy setting up and tweaking my equipment.
I wouldn’t go back to...
There are some pretty light framed packs available, even reasonably priced ones. Mine weighs 2 pounds which is a good compromise to me for comfort when I need to take more stuff. But I don’t do a...
Completely agree! I remember my first multi day solo trip out where I was completely alone in the middle of nowhere. Honestly, a bit uncomfortable that first night. Then, you build some confidence...
Update here. I took another nap today in the backyard with 39 degree and gusty blustery wind. No tarp or shelter. I was comfortable for my nap and toasty warm.
I did have to adjust the UQ. I...
Whatever works for you. I like to keep the lines attached and everything in the snakeskin except the stakes which I keep in a bag in my pack. I would put those in as well if they weren't so large...
Yeah, these are the best solution that I have found yet - super easy to adjust, no knots, fastest setup.
I like that I can make the loop wherever I want, close to the tree, further out if the...
I picked up a few of these recently. I really like soft shackles over carabiners and especially these ones that don’t have a bury to milk. So fast and easy.
Anyone else using these? It’s so...
I did not realize that they have a wide! Thanks for the info. I like a wide hammock and the standard UQ does work well for me but I do sleep more narrow than I lounge due to it being slightly more...
Fire and Ice! I love it!! :)
I have decided to "try it until it fails and then learn". Been using them on the RL with no issues so far. Obviously, it's plastic and will fail at some point, but everything does.
I've got nothing but good things to say.
I ordered these some time ago and got a shipping notification 2 days ago - quilts arrived today. Seems like the shipping issues from USPS have been...
Seems odd to me that it is slipping during the night. I’ve never seen that. It slips when I first get on the hammock and that’s it.
Are you sure you are tying it properly?
All sold and shipped, closing
I have PMed the buyer, thanks for the reminder. I didn’t notice there was no message in the thread.
#1 Pending as well
I recently got a Voyageur and it’s become my favorite. I really like a netless. Super comfortable and I really like the hexon 1.6 which Jared did mine in at 68”.
I went with the peak shelf at...
