I have to go to a wedding Friday but trying to get there Saturday afternoon. Fingers Crossed.
Do you paddle? There are a few of us who go to the ADKs as much as we can, paddle in sites, base camp and paddle, fishing. Next one is looking like Columbus Day Weekend.
Blackflies are usually bad in May throughout the Adirondacks. June they lighten up and the Mosquitoes start coming out. A lot of campgrounds do treat to keep the mosquito population down. I usually...
Welcome Steve, Yes check out the hang this coming weekend. I am in Oakland but don't think I am going to make this one. Trying to get out to Stokes some time soon, if they get some more snow.
It has been crazy since the pandemic and being so close to NYC. You will find it will wind down once the leaves are all down and Perkins Drive is closed for the season.
Phillies in Phive.
There's an app for weather? No Way. Hoping to make it but I am usually a last minute committer.
From NYS DEC Ranger rescue post:
Town of Pleasant Valley
Dutchess County
Wilderness Rescue: On Nov. 10 at 7:30 a.m., Central Dispatch received a call from Dutchess County 911 regarding an injured...
I see that one of NYS rules is NO nails into trees. Here is the rule from the website:
Things you should know when you get there...
1. Please do not injure the trees. No nails, screws, ropes or...
Did you make it? You have me singing the back to gilwell song.
Dutchette: I have not volunteered anything yet. Is there something I should bring, food or cooking equipment wise?
In colder temp hanging, I do use a liner. I sleep cold and found a 20 degree TQ may not keep me warm in 35 degrees. A Fleece liner is a nice addition as a layer because it provides a warm pocket of...
I was torn between going on the Winter hang or going skiing. Sorry but I figured there would be more winter weather in Vermont so Skiing won. I really wanted to test my 0 degree quilts but the Pine...
I tried my system in sub zero temps with a insulated mat and wool blanket underneath in the backyard, I was back in the house in a half hour. I have to add my .02, this system will not get you down...
Late to commit here, Daughter came home and wants to camp. Three of us.
Good choice, in fact Arrowhead has a 10% winter insulation sale right now. I have two of the Ridge Creek underquilts for my Bridge. ...
I believe Coldfeet is planning a fall Mullica trip and then there is always the Fall Hang at Batona....
I guess this old thread is OK to hijack. I haven't hiked any of the trails in the barrens but I canoed the Mullica several times. The Batsto was clogged with blowdown as of this past spring and was...
Looks Like she is doing better and I should be able to attend. Weather will cold at night.
FRI OCT 4 AM Clouds/PM Sun 48°27° 20% NNW 11 mph 73%
SAT OCT 5 Sunny 55°34° 10%ESE 5 mph 61%

Wife came down with something so I will have to stay close to home, praying for a speedy recovery and I can make it last minute.
I have been to Lewey, I had to squeeze into the woods to set up my hammock at site 082. I now usually try to get two adjacent sites so I have more options without encroaching towards the neighbors. I...
Thanks for the info Muddy Creek. Looks like I will need to take an extra day there. There was a post on the ADK forum about a theft of camping equipment from a MRP campsite while the owner was out...
I was part of an organized paddling weekend on the ADK forum the past few years. One year we had 7 of us, last year we had 5 of us including the organizer, myself and daughter. This year it was just...
Meet and hang out at reservoir? You mean at the put in or at a specific site? When would the meet up be, Saturday AM?
So many group trips, so few weekends. 13th 20th and 27th of Sept. are out for me. Cedar River Flow paddling trip is planned for the 27th if anybody is interested.
First of all where did you see that Hammocks aren't allowed in NYS? I hammock in the ADKs all the time, no ranger, caretaker or Trooper gave it a second look. As long as you use a nice wide tree...
Now you tell me. If I saw that beforehand I would have tried it. It probably would get distorted when using the foam, one would probably need to do something to keep it from collapsing when the foam...

The Catskills would probably be a bit cooler than more southern locations in Late Summer if that would help.
It was a chore to get down 42". The post hole digger was only effective to about 36", then it wouldn't grab anything. On top of that, I have a LOT of rock. I broke several up with a hammer drill and...
I needed a better location for my backyard hanging so I sunk a 12 foot 6x6, 16' from a big old oak. I used Sika post set expanding foam instead of traditional cement. I went down 42" and rounded off...
I will take the Lynx Underquilt.
I have never been,Yet. Allamuchy State Park, nice trails I hear but watch out for mountain Bikers. Campground at Stevens. Stealth in in Allamuchy? I wont tell.
...
Which Washington Township? I believe there are two in NJ. One off the parkway near NYS and one off Rt. 80 out west.
Neat setup with the tent frame. What is your spread? I have one with a 10 and a 5 footer but it is a bit too close, I cannot adjust my suspension fully on the RR. I am thinking of going with 2 eight...
Justin, Please don't plan it the same weekend as the Stillwater Reservoir Hang, I would like to make it to either one, if not both. ...
I messaged Marmaduke before my trip to Meacham Lake, He said that Meacham West Side is awesome. They are for the most part, tent platforms and privies over there and it is closed until after Memorial...
Same one as on CT forum? :)
Lions? I haven't heard of Lions in the park. Ha Ha. . How did you ever make out Marmaduke? I am heading up to Meacham for the first time next weekend.
That was fast.:)
High folks, I have been doing some planning on a Paddling Camp out the weekend before Memorial Day at Meacham Lake State Campground in the Adirondacks. There aren't any more sites on the water right...
I do believe August would be a tough one to get a choice site on a Friday or Saturday, Sunday- Thursday would be more realistic during that month.
Always wanted to canoe in here. You mean that you can drive to other parts of reservoir other than the canoe put in? Unfortunately they do allow motorboats as well.
I cannot commit to this trip at the moment, if there is any space left in the days before, I would have a better idea if I would be able to make it.
Friday night or Saturday night?
The river isn't long enough. You can do a few hour paddle to Mullica Wilderness campsite, paddle out in a few hours, Then stay at a different drive up site.
The Batsto is clogged with blowdown and...
Oh darn now I don't have to convince the wife that I need to get away for a second weekend in a row. Hopefully April will generate more interest in a Mullica trip.
One night Dave. Leave the sink at home but do bring the Water Closet, the outhouses at Mullica stink.
Tyroler, What part of Westchester are you from? I am assuming Grandpa went to Camp Read in the summer with the scouts. Many a good memories of Camp Read for me. I am from Yonkers originally, now NNJ....
Excellent about the Mullica bummer about the Batsto.
