I made a amsteel tie out for our dog(just for backpacking). He likes to chew and the amsteel works great at a light weight! If it weren't for hammocks I wouldnt know about amsteel!

Welcome to the forum! As far as the weight of the ripstop, its a little harder now that the hammock is made, but weigh some known size of the ripstop and divide that weight by the number of sq yds...

I agree. I used 1.5" on the sides and 1" on the ends of mine, but to do it again i woud probably just use 1.5" all the way around. It was easier to work with and provides a little more channel room.

It looks like most of the cottage tarp makers use reinforced patches, but this seems to make the most sense, and would actually spread the load in the right places...I will definitely keep this in...

And it is only about 2.5 oz of nylon. That is 1.1 oz/sq yd nylon.

Scooterdogma was right on and that everything (leaves, sticks, etc) sticks to fleece and would help protect from that, but other than those things, just a piece of fleece would work!

I sleep very warm and live in south MS, but I still dont think I ever leave my underquilt at home! That being said, I have slept many nights and will sleep many more without using my underquilt, but...

I also used closer to 1 part silicone to 4 parts mineral spirits. You want it thin enough to soak through good, but not so thin that it doesnt leave enough silicone in the fabric.

I started with nylon 48 X 67 and the fleece was 46 X 65.
