Wow! Way lighter than I would have imagined. Looks to be really well made and designed. I may end up getting one someday. Would be curious to see if it opens up more tight spots I can't hang my...
One of these days I'm going to get a Tensa Trekking pole. Its not every trip that I would end up using it, but when you do man it opens up a lot more hanging spots for you.
Continuous loops for me. Lets me swap out suspensions easily.
Yeah every once in a while I have to either live with trees slightly to close, or trees to far apart, and I think to myself I'll get a Tensa Trekking Pole one day.
That sounds good for UL general usage. I probably wouldnt use it for things like my ridgeline or tarp tie outs, but would for tying down my pulk loads for example in the winter.
If you dont need the additional weight capacity that a second layer provides then it becomes a matter of personal preference. I have both single and double layer hammocks. Myself I prefer a stiffer...
UV proof containers, throw in some desiccant packs to keep the moisture down, and make sure they lock up good so mice and what not dont get in.
I stored some stuff in conex containers that way in...
Great to see the gang back together!
This winter has sucked so bad for snow up here. I ended up buying some snow stakes like these - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BL155SQW with a hex head...
Thanks popcorn fool! Got an Eldorado on the way now!
Shot in the dark here, but figured I would try. Got a trip upcoming this summer with a friend to the BWCA, and he wants to give hammock camping a shot. Hes a bigger guy so I'm looking for a...
Autumn Ultralight makes a good one that uses that toggle and some nama claws.
Another vote for the Lawson cordage! I love his glowire for my guylines.
Well you asked so I had to dig into it more.
That site you linked is pure spam. The content is either all ghost written by some content farm or spit out by AI. Doing a whois on the site shows it...
I've got a hammock chair from Arrowhead Equipment that's great for hikes and lounging. But I could never see myself sleeping in one.
Now there are other styles like those big canvas ones that hang...
Wishing you a speedy recovery Shug!
Have to say your Return of the Circus Freak video was a welcome surprise. We just got back from the hospital with our 2nd kid. Tired, exhausted and bleary eyed...
Another vote for wiggys stuff for long term compressed storage. At one point the air force was using vacuum sealed wiggys bags for its pilots I believe.
Ive had one that ive used for an emergency...
Nice review and pictures thank you!
I keep thinking about the Haven as a potential hammock if I ever do a big Colorado trip again. In years past i've gone with friends and would never bring my...
Trying out different hammocks is part of the fun for me! I'm chasing hanging Shangri-la! Thanks for another video, and speedy recovery to you sir!
For hammocking sites, as plenty of others have mentioned check the strength and integrity of the trees youre hanging from and look for any widow makers.
For site selection in general I've found...
For the weight quilt hooks are a nice extra. Not mandatory in my opinion but can be nice to have.
With my extra wide theres enough fabric to lean back in just fine. A bit less so with my regular width 1.6 hexon.
I also use to fear over tightening an underquilt. But there’s a difference between tight and overtight and in my experience it’s a big one. Cinch it up a bit more and give it another shot!
KayakerBee,
If you pass through Duluth on your trip and need a place to crash youre welcome to stay with my family and I assuming were in town, just shoot me a message. Circumnavigating Superior...
I usually bring a good book or have a movie downloaded to my phone to watch. A lot of times I'll just relax and listen to an album or podcast too.
Other times I'll bring an AM radio and mess...
Well I ordered another one!
This time in Hex 2.2 XL! So far through some nap hangs I’m really liking it. This is the first extra wide hammock I’ve ever had. A bit of extra fabric flapping around...
Shoot I hadn't even considered that as a potential issue! I've got a Hex2.2 XL hammock on its way from SLD. Will have to test out UQs when it arrives.
Price drop to $175.
Silpoly is supposed to not "absorb" as much water/moisture as SilNylon, for that reason a lot of people opt for it more often in wet/humid conditions. Hard to say without more information on the...
Thanks for the history lesson! Love seeing how the gear has evolved over the years.
That looks sharp!
Another vote for some elastic cordage to tie to the ridgeline. Really helps with keeping it out of the way when you need it to be.
This is the newer 2nd generation!
Selling a lightly used Warbonnet XLC Heavyweight Double Layer hammock. I bought this as I was getting into hammock camping thinking I'd use it in conjunction with a pad in case I wasnt into it. Long...
I dont have any of the classic gear but I love reading about it and seeing how the hobby has evolved over the years.
By the time I got into hanging its seemed to have all been more or less...
One other thing that may be worth mentioning.
I use to be afraid to cinch down the ends or tighten the primary suspension to much on my UQs because I thought I’d over tighten and cause drafts. You...

Yes sir it can be hilly up there!
Nothing like being out West in the mountains but plenty hilly! The creators of the Border Route Trail didnt give any concern to how arduous the trail...
I hope to attend one year! I always get jealous reading about all of the fun and seeing the YouTube videos come out. One year I'll make it! To busy this year preparing for kid #2 thats due in under a...
Wow fantastic work. Looks incredible!
If you have the money those Yobo Hammock Stands look to be the best indoor stand that you could safely put up without worrying about putting any holes in the wall.
Some great views BlazeyJ! I've got friends out West so I always think of all of our mountains being out that way, totally forgetting there are some awesome ranges out East.
I've used these for years - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0772LWQ5T
I think Warbonnet sells some synthetic mesh storage bags separately, and HammockGear at least used to sell some cotton...
Thats my biggest challenge! I always struggle getting the feeder foot/dog/whatever its called, and good tension with some of the lighter fabrics. Pain in the butt!
Still im better at it now then I...
I need to take some classes. I've muddled through some projects on my own, and watching some YouTube videos has helped, but a class would be really beneficial.

I wonder if that mitten hook could be used to connect one side of the quilts shock cord to the other side in an attempt to prevent drafts? Just spitballing.
Picked up a few miscellaneous items, like spreader bars for my tarp. Always been curious to try those out!
You always have the best photos for trip reports! Hats off to ya once again.
I just saw that come through! Will be useful to some folks, but 7d is just to thin for me. I'd worry about damaging the quilt.
I use an SLD catch-all. I dont take it all of the time. If im only out for a day or two I leave it behind. But on longer trips it speeds up the setup and take down for sure.
Only real downside is...
Yeah! Was a fun project. Hopefully I'll get them varnished soon and I can use them a bunch this winter.
The instructor just recommended your typical spar varnish and said you could brush it on...
