Booked Wed-Sun on Proulx.
The May 10-12 weekend works for me. It’s the only weekend I can go. I may join you KWK a day or two early.
Planning thread for Spring trip May 2024 here:

Always a great get together.
Nice. See you tomorrow.
We usually book sites 134 and 135. 134 can accommodate many hangers and the sites are close to the heated washroom. In the past I’ve just paid for a site if I’m there early enough and I don’t worry...
Always welcome.
I think it’s been 4 years since I last saw the young fellow. Probably a foot and a half taller now.
Valens, November 24-26

Hello all! Just putting it out there. In the past few years we’ve done a hang after the Canoe Symposium in late November. Unfortunately I hear the canoe symposium is no more but at least we can still...
Thanks KWK! I did a quick trip report here. Mostly pics.

I was blessed with calm conditions on the way out with only a slight wind here and there.

My trip began as it usually does, waking up in the middle of the night so I can push off at a reasonably early time. I've paddled in the dark before and I wasn't keen on doing it again.

We’ll miss you Chard!
I can bring the stuffing and mashed potatoes.
Just heard on the news that El Niño is going to cause an early, cooler than normal fall. This bodes well for an early colour change. It would be awesome if it could match the colours we had on Pen...
Welcome SG! Looking forward to meeting you.
Nice!! Paddles are overrated. 22 sleeps for me!

Made my reservation:thumbup1:. What area are we aiming for? The sites on the bay where the waterfalll is? Maybe the site beside the falls?
Fingers crossed.
Come to the dark side..:scared:
I’m up for North Tea.
I didn’t know about this thread:(. As much as I enjoyed Donald I’d rather go somewhere I’ve not been to or have not been to in a while. As I mentioned in the email I sent I was looking at...
There’s typically a hang in late September. I have some time off on the last weekend of September so I’ll be going somewhere.
Have to say I can’t make it :(. Have a good time! Hope to see some of you in September.
Nice pictures! Slim chance but I’m going to see what I can do.
Thanks for the on site intel! Very helpful for mission planning. (Sorry, my son was just asking me about military language)
Hey Thanks!
FYI, just called Canoe Algonquin in Kearney and they had no info. There was no answer from Algonquin Basecamp, just an automated message.
The heavy rains are supposed to continue through to this evening. I guess we should make a decision by tomorrow.
My plan was to see what happens. I’m optimistic/stubborn about Rain as well. I just wanted to have some kind of back up. Maybe the sink hole will motivate the graders to get to that road.:scared:
Hello all. There’s a special weather statement for Kearney for heavy rains through Monday. It may help with snow but at the same time it may keep the road inaccessible. I decided to take the hit and...
FYI. Just called the reservation number and there was no new info about ice out or booking availability prior to the stated May 12 opening date. They just said to check back regularly to find out...

There's been some brief discussion in the email thread as to whether we stay on Rain or Sawyer. I personally...
That’s one of my annual rituals too.:)
Can’t make the symposium but planning on going to Valens for the night.
I’m good with the 6th and Rain lake. I’d like to stay on Rain in the spirit of the Marshmallow. Rain lake could be the end or the beginning of a longer trip others might be interested in doing.
I wouldn’t mind staying on Rain Lake again. As an aside it’s close to the Western Uplands trail I did back in the 90’s.

Hoping to come out on Saturday.
Beat me to it. That’s an oooold patent for sure.
Should be there for at least the 12th. As Chard mentioned these tend to be a pot luck kind of deal. Everyone just brings stuff and shares.
I’ve used GooGone on my tree straps with success but have not tried it on silnylon. It’s apparently safe for fabrics according to the manufacturer.
Do we just show up at the Sportsman’s lodge and go in and pay for parking and push off? Or do we need to call ahead and make arrangements?
I’m planning on pushing off Thursday around lunchtime. Planning to stay 3 nights. I can bring part of whatever is needed for a group meal.
Engineer? Ah you should have mentioned that before. I have a few friends that are engineers. That would have changed my entire post. Probably would have just posted “You’ll figure it out:thumbup1:”...
I let the excess dry and flake off and then use Googone.
If a little extra weight and bulk are not an issue I'd rather go longer. Depending on where you travel you might be thankful for carrying the extra suspension length. I've never had an issue with...
Hello and welcome!
Based on the pictures I think it makes sense to add some lumbar to account for the lateral force the hammock would add. Keep in mind the that the forces exerted by the hammock can increase...
I use Blake hitches as well and they hold strong but adjust easily. As others have mentioned natural anchor points are good as well as placing something heavy on top of your stakes. As you're already...
