I believe I wrapped my wrist 4 times with each color before splicing them together...so maybe 8 times if you are doing a single piece. I had a little left over afterwards to be cut off but not a lot.
Ended up adding an extra Dutch hook to my last order thanks to this thread...lol

I'll have to see how the work schedule goes but I'd love to bring the boys and come hang out (pun intended) if possible.
Got him home from school and in it...looks like we have a winner. It's sealed up nicely, just need to trim the shock cord and clean things up.

While the snugpak underblankets get good reviews from the people looking for a cheap way to get away from pads, it is universally understood the stock suspension setup is horrible. I ordered a set...
Dutch sells a removeable pullout I've been eyeballing for the times one would be handy but I just can't convince myself it won't tear a hole in the side...lol
Wow, it's just what I hoped for and better than expected! Great job on the video also!
Hey Duuuuuutttttccccccchhhhhhh, we've let you sleep long enough!
Pure gold! Bahahahaha
I've not heard of big hill pond, I'll look into it.
Welcome! I'm learning as I go also, not too far from you...I live in Arkansas just across the bridge from Memphis.
Little backstory first...
My middle son and I got into backpacking and hanging last year and have had the chance to go out a few times now, but this winter my youngest (12) finally decided he...
"If you ain't Dutch, you ain't much"
I just watched this again and I'm still laughing hard enough to snort. It really helps that I saw the toggle-less Marlin spike-less video yesterday. Lol
I'm tearing up and snorting right now...it's not a pretty sight!
I can't believe no one has mentioned shug yet. Go check out his YouTube videos (shugemery)...he has hung down to -40 I believe...either way, he knows cold hanging and you can see some of his setups.
I have a pillow I got from AHE that I've been using since it came with the "starter pack" I got from them but I've been too cheap to buy one for my son making him use clothes rolled up in a stuff...
The jarbidge is what I will be ordering them for, I have a problem getting a super tight seal on the ends...I'm sure it's because of my shape (I make a pretty decent watermelon impersonation). I...
Good deal. That's what I figured but wanted to make sure I didn't need to order anything extra. Thanks Paul!
I use the UCO candle lantern. It's larger than most of yours but I just love having a flame there to watch and I like how it closes up nice and small for packing away. I'd like to find a smaller one...
Looked at the site and did a search on here but couldn't find an answer. The TT attaches to the quilt by a piece of shock cord and a mini biner at each corner...does this cord and biner come with the...
I think it's $10k and he will hand deliver your order and go on an overnight hang with you! Hahaha
Oh my, the hiking pole bit is genius! Gonna keep me from walking back and forth between trees counting paces over and over and over while providing entertainment for anyone watching.

Porch mode really is one of the simple pleasures of life!
Me and my middle child hiked our first hike and hung our first hang on the Sylamore...absolutely beautiful trail! My youngest is wanting to start backpacking with us so I am getting him outfitted...
I 2nd the owyhee. After much looking I got the starter kit from arrowhead that came with hammock and suspension, both quilts, bug net, and even a pillow...talk about 1 stop shopping! Lol. I've been...
I've made a new discovery that will be going with me on every trip from now on..

It's bigger than I...
My son and I recently made plans for our first ever backpacking trip on the Sylamour Creek trail in north Arkansas...it is a 23 mile one way trail about 3.5 hours from the house so we made plans to...
We got our dates set for April 22-24th.
I upload my pictures from my phone to photobucket and then copy the link here.
The wife is not a hiker...or a camper...or a get away from the air conditioner really if you want to find the root of it all...
Ended up ordering a new Dutch hammock and tadpole tarp for him, told him that he would have to drag his bag and pad around this spring and we would look at quilts later in the year....after that, my...
I think I'm going to order the hammock and just make him stick with his overly heavy bag and pad for now...at least for his first few hangs. This whole car camping to backpacking switch is getting...
The thing that irks me about a new lightweight down bag is that by the time I purchase that I'm close to half of what it would run to just grab a nice quilt. Guess I'll browse rei's website and see...
The site looks great and makes my decision making on what quilt set to go with even harder. Thanks for that...hahaha
Got my AHE hammock and quilts home and now my son wants to throw out his tent and start hanging. Unfortunately the dogs went through the top of his tent last weekend so I've got to buy him...
That's what I was hoping, thanks!
Looking into a set of quilts...what's it running now, around the 2 week mark for fulfillment?

Something else I just noticed...if you go with option 3 and use a pad for now you would probably be better off and doing the double layer hammock so the pad can go inside. I have no experience with...
When I ordered my tadpole I got the suspension from Dutch but went straight to WL for the tarp since I could get it with the longer ridgeline length and more color options...Dutch was out of the gray...
Dutch has different fabrics for different weights and can be ordered as a double layer hammock so your sleeping pad can go between the layers and it can support more weight also.
I'm 270 and just...
I 2nd the starter kits from arrowhead. I just got the apprentice kit for my first setup...haven't gotten it in the woods yet but I've found a few places around the house to hang out and play with the...
I'm new to this and still learning but if that's the case why do so many people say to have the foot end higher? Most every adjustment issue I've asked about at least one person suggests to raise...
Ended up making a couple soft shackles and replacing the prusick knots with them...problem solved. I can now just hang the uq and then use the soft shackle to hang the cords from. Easy peasy!
Quick observation. The prussick knots used in place of the triangle thingies are great being able to slide them back and forth for fine tuning things. The purpose of them is to pull the quilt up...
Dutch makes the quilt hooks and I might break down and order some to try but I don't think they would work well for what I have...my underquilt doesn't have a channel ran down the side with shock...
I will definitely be sleeping in the garage some...the wife thinks I'm an idiot. Lol. The only issue I'm having with the underquilt now is when I move around sometimes the side will gap out a bit and...
How do my homemade "triangle thingie" substitutes look?

Want to see something pretty funny? Look at his shirt and one I dug out of my closet. Mines old and faded but bingo! Haha
