Thanks for the information! As I understand it, the campground is at the same place as the cabin. I'm not sure if there are official campsites or not, but I do know you can stay there. I'm a bit...
I'm going down to Hawaii next February and will be doing a quick overnight trip in Haleakala National Park. I'll be staying at Palikū campground and can't tell if there's enough trees to make...
+1 for permethrin. Mix it up into a small spray bottle and apply before a trip.
I can't imagine that could cause any issues. Especially so if you're using some kind of UHMWPE rope (Amsteel, Lash-it, etc), which is notoriously very slippery (and therefore not likely to cause any...
Is there an aspect of strength/durability that's not accurately communicated by the warp/weft specifications? I assume there must be, but those are the only numbers I could find from RSBTR.
I was browsing around the site today and noticed that the 0.77 oz MTN Silnylon had the same listed strength as the new MONOLITE Mesh fabric: Warp (1.6 lbF), Weft (3 lbF).
Is this accurate? Would...
Yup, definitely the easiest way to go! Keeps the rest of the hammock nice and clean/dry.
I've got a medium orange circuit with the roll top, but I'd rather have an orange Ohm (with drawstring). If you decide you're willing to change to a different pack, let me know :)
Any updates? I keep checking this thread hoping to see something!
1 inch kevlar from Meyers tech. Lightest straps on the market!
Can you elaborate on that? I had no problems with the beckett hitch in these kevlar straps.
[email protected]
Is Jeff's email if you want to contact him.
Those are actually his UHMWPE straps, not the kevlar ones. I don't see the kevlar straps listed anywhere on ebay, you'll probably have to contact him directly for information.
This is what I do for one end of my tarp's continuous ridgeline. On the other side I tie a trucker's hitch. Very easy, no hardware, and it comes apart with no trouble when I need to break camp.
Update: I switched to some kevlar straps from MeyersTech Hammock Lab and had no sag all week: https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php/147754-MeyersTech-Kevlar-Straps?p=1897536#post1897536
After experiencing some sag with treestraps that I had made from some off-the-shelf REI tubular webbing (https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php/147365-Overnight-Hammock-Sag), I was in the...
Does the burrow come with a draft collar? I just got a bandit from UGQ and being able to add the draft collar was a big factor in my decision to purchase from them.
I prefer my bishop bag because it gives me a convenient place to stash my tree straps. I also use it to stash various items during the day like stuff sacks, extra stakes, etc.
Great, that validates my suspicions that it's the webbing. I had already purchased some non-stretch straps (they didn't arrive until I got home) and I'm looking forward to putting them through their...
On my most recent hammock backpacking trip, I had some issues with my hammock sagging overnight.
When I set up camp, my undquilt was a good 3-4inches off the ground while I was in the hammock,...
I just bought some of Jeff's new 1" kevlar straps and I'm really impressed. They're a featherweight 1.9g/foot and they seem to hold great. He only charges $15 for a 6 foot pair so this is both...
I think they're custom parts that he made himself. I would suggest sending him a message on Facebook if you want more information, he's very responsive and helpful.
Quilts arrived yesterday and they look great! That's a 10 degree Bandit and a 10 degree Zepplin and they're both awesome so far!
Granted I've only had them on the hammock for maybe a half hour...
Same, the problem critters up north tend to be much larger and hairier.
I've been looking into something similar and am probably going to buy from this site when I get around to it: http://www.questoutfitters.com/tent_poles.htm
Dutch also sells poles on his website...
Those injection mold models look soooo slick! Looking forward to snagging one once you production.
Every story like this makes me excited to buy a full set of winter insulation from Loco Libre. Just gotta work up the nerve to spend $1000+ on feathers
Just got the email that my quilts have entered production! So excited to get them and can't wait to sleep out in the woods all smug and warm.
Anecdotally, my dog is afraid of fire. But she's also afraid of cats, horses, rain, swimming, and brushes, so this might not be the most relevant data point.
Oh well all right then case closed
Do you have any source for this? I have never seen any evidence that any serious type of crime is any more common at a park than anywhere else.
Never leave food in your pack, always store it securely and far (100 meter or more) away from your campsite. If there's not food around, you and your gear will be left alone by the animals.
I'm all about that bright orange hammock!
If I'm concerned about being seen by animal or man, I can hide it in under my tarp (dark olive) and underquilt (dark grey).
As a general rule, I...
It looks like the doors on HG CF Tarp #1 don't close fully. Is that due to that particular setup or is that a feature of the doors?
I believe the thead was deleted by the admins.
Still looking for one of these!
Did a search on google scholar to see if there had been any research done in this area. I could only find one study (though I didn't look very hard) and it concluded that certain extracts can act as...
For me, the biggest "aha!" comfort moment was setting my foot end to be about 12-18" higher than my head. It looks kinda goofy when you set it up, but once you're in it feels soooo much better. Calf...
Looking through the strap offerings on Dutch's site, I'm trying to find the differences between the UHMWPE huggers (https://dutchwaregear.com/product/uhmwpe-straps-huggers/) and the Spider Web 2.0...
Looking to buy an 11ft dyneema Winter Palace tarp, made by HammockGear.
Oh my goodness I reaaaalllly want to make a pillow out of this pattern. Really incredible work!
HyperD 1.0 and Hexon 1.0 are the two lightest fabrics you can realistically make a hammock out of. An 11 foot hammock made out of either of these materials will weigh a little under 7 ounces without...
I've got my whoopie attached to a CL with a larkshead only because I want to be able to hang off the CL in situations where the trees are very close together. I could probably come up with a more...
Hah, I was just looking into pillow options yesterday!
I currently have a Sea to Summit Aeros which is very comfortable, especially when used on a pad. However, due to the natural curvature of...
I just bought a quilt set and this was true for me. Comparing to EE to UGQ, UGQ offered more features (like a draft collar) and a more hammock focused quilt (narrower) for the same or lower cost....
Yes, definitely. If I can drop weight without sacrificing performance (e.g. stupid light) then I think it's worth it.
I've definitely noticed that about the trails up here, which is kind of a...
This is definitely for backpacking. Car camping I would just keep using the ol' blue tarp.
Islay whiskys (the very smokey ones like Laphroaig and Lagavulin) definitely aren't for everyone. I'm just barely starting to come around to them, but I still vastly prefer something nice and...
Hmm, this is a good point. I hadn't thought about going up the palace, as the standard hex looked like it would be able to provide enough coverage for the vast majority of conditions, especially if...
Personally, I think the translucency will be a plus. I love being able to see the sky, especially at night. Up north I'm going to have to bring an eyeshade for most of the year anyways, so being...
