Here's my latest present for my son. I added grommets for cinch locations. middle of all 4 sides. Also added cinches to keep quilt stretched out. Really liking that mod. Here are some pics.

Yeah, I was typing on my phone after coaching basketball. Hopefully it reads a little better now! :scared:
For about 3 months I've been planning on going to Dolly sods. When it came down to the weekend of the trip I couldn't take the 4 days I was hoping for.
A friend of mine and I decided to do a...
Nice idea! I like that.
It's a Grand trunk highlander kryptec! Wife spoiled me with that one! Kryptec was too hard to find in smaller quantity a few years ago. I need to look again.
I'll have to build a double CUQ for...
Got first costo down throw underquilt for sons Christmas gift. Picked up some Robric from RSBTR. Turned out great had to get a bit innovative how I used the cord locks to help stretch out the UQ....
Same here! Wife got them for me as Christmas gift. Glad I tossed them in, left my Lucy light charging in the sun! :(
I love that idea... I'm not a fan of the drafts I get when I'm hanging during cold October windy night.
 They're coming too! Just not soon enough.
12 miles total. Split 5.5 and 6.5 each day
Looks like total of about 12 miles. About 5.5 first evening and 6.5 the next morning. A lot more than I had planned. Have to admit took some fun out of the hike hurrying, but made me realize what I...
Nice! I grew up in Warrenton. Love the country out that way!
I will have to look for total mileage. I believe it was high 80's during day on the mountain and down to low-mid 50's. It was a brisk morning but no need for a jacket or long sleeves. Especially...
Snuck out last night for my first solo hike on the AT. Started at Keys Gap about 6:15 pm. Had to break out the head lamp at 8 pm and night hikes about 30 min. Saw lots of deer's eyes glowing in the...
I went out with my son to a Boy Scout camp out at Goshen and the mosquitoes are horrible. I was going to him at camp with my son but he really like to be tent setup and wanted to be in the tent. So...
Yes I did use the membrane silpoly. It's way light, almost as light as my cube hex tarp. That weight included 6 guylines, snake skins made of the same material and the stuff sack. No stakes included....
So was working from home with Shug rambling on in the background... (kids watching him ofcourse) and I decided to go dink around with my tarp. There's a bit of rain today and I wanted to test it out...
Just check out Dutches video on it. I hammock mostly with my kids so best to be under same tarp... I love that it! I'll probably have to get one.
I got a bit of free time this weekend and was thinking about doing a hang in Savage River MD. I got out there early in spring and want to get back out to do some fly fishing with my brother-in-law. ...
Excellent, looking forward to some pics of the hammocks in the wild.
Classic! Amazing how they can sleep in any position! I can't anymore, that's why I'm in a hammock now... hahaha.
Scouting has definitely become the focus of my vacations. Have to admit it's...
Last weekend I got to take my 11 year old to a scout camp out. they got to do Totin chip, orienteering, lashings, camp stoves and fire, etc. Had a great time. I packed hammocks for both of us but...
Nice idea! I'll have to see what I can find.
My youngest two wanted tk hammock with dad. So I slung up 3 hammocks in the covered porch.
I only have one under quilt so far so kids used some pads. Daughter complained about the pad bunching...
Beautiful area! Thanks for sharing... Sure beats my cube!
Looks like a lot of fun and reminds me of when I took my 13 year old out in Jan and temps dropped down to 18F. We bugged out of there at 2am after building a fire to warm up at! (didn't bring the...
Thanks! There were several other fathers eyeing the setup and then mentioned they'll have to get a canopy... made me laugh
Looks like a lot of fun! Thanks for sharing and the tips! I had not seen that fire setup before. I'll have to try and build my own gates of hell!
I think I was a bit selfish because I knew it was going to rain in the morning and I didn't want to have to pack a bunch of wet tarps.
The hammock we brought is a Yukon Outfitters with a net. I...
Thanks! First one and going to try an over quilt next. Everyone has been a huge inspiration.
Got out to Lake Fairfax this weekend. It was the maiden voyage of my first DIY winter tarp. My oldest son got the hammock in there while I took to the ground with the other 2 boys. Rained good and...
Here's a quick read on it.

The platform is was an Eagle Scout project. I wish I had taken a picture of the plaque. This site is about half way from Snickersville Gap, on Route 7, and Keys Gap. I think it's about 7 or 8...
We jumped on at Blackburn trail center, just did a few miles. Yes, tick-less. Maybe it was still too cold. Just a little further south has a LOT more under growth from what I've experienced. Was...
We had a quick outing on the AT in northern Virginia. My son was very happy it was one night, he had to sleep on the ground. I didn't help him pack his bag so he forgot tree straps and rope for his...
I got my tarp kit with the membrane silpoly this week! It's very slick and light. I tried to stretch it in all directions but didn't give at all! I'm pretty impressed with the strength. But while...
Thanks Shug, that perfect!
I recently cut out the 2 panel shapes and have a lot of the membrane silpoly left over. I saw this thread and thought it would be an excellent use of the extra material.
I'm currently working on a tarp and will have some left over material. did you use a pattern or just create a tapered tube for it?
I had my fingers crossed for my first HammockForums hang. Unfortunately I have commitments both nights this weekend and will not be able to make it. Enjoy the cool weather for me!
Hello all!
I've been getting more and more into hammocking. I started with a Brazilian nylon my brother picked up for me in Recife. After being distracted by having kids I'm finally getting...
