Does anyone have experience with the Superior Gear Wind Protector? I'm planning on ordering one for my insulated hammock (which should ship any day now.) I am wondering if I should get the Silpoly...
Thanks for the pics... that helps.
I want to get another hammock while they are on sale at Warbonnet... thinking maybe blue. In Dream Tex they have True Blue and Light Ocean Blue, and I wanted to see the difference in them. Does...
Thanks, y'all! We have a winner: camo. (And I think I'm going with the HG hex... not that much more $ than the asym and a lot more useful.)
What a great and helpful community this forum is. :)
I'm going to get a Dyneema tarp, but can't decide on white, olive green, or camo. Any pictures or insight into why you prefer one over the others?
(I'm planning on a Dutch Asym so as to evaluate...
Which is lighter for the same hammock: Warbonnet's Dream Tex fabric or their regular 40D nylon? (Or is is identical weights?)
Thanks
Exactly! I like the partial doors, and it's not about the weight. But I do want the weight savings of the Dyneema over my MiniFly.
I hadn't even thought about why I wasn't finding any, but that...
I absolutely love my Warbonnet MiniFly Tarp. I'm looking for a Dyneema Tarp that is built similarly. I've found Dyneema hex tarps, and ones with full doors. Does anyone know of any Dyneema tarps with...
Great pic of the hammock hung between the picnic pavilions, but I'd be too afraid it wouldn't hold up and they would collapse and kill me.
I'm enjoying the posts... thanks for sharing with us.
Be...
I'm 52 and one of my daughters got me into hammocking in the park. Since I was ready to give camping a try anyway, I just went with the hammock and skipped the tent altogether. Now I'm getting her...
LOL, last camping trip I dreamed a HUGE porcupine was under my hammock. Also, (same dream,) a skunk jumped in the hammock and frolicked awhile before jumping out, and a hyena peered in at me. I left...
If you aren't already, slide closer to the head end. (I think that's right... it's what I do and I'm comfy.) Also you can try bending a knee out to the side, alternating which knee, and shift...
Welcome to the Forum! I went to school for a year in KY, and I love the place. Good luck and have fun picking the rest of your gear... for me that's half the fun!!
Yes, exactly as you said, except "lowered to the ground" is a bit gentler than it happened... I didn't get hurt, but my kids got a good laugh. ;)
Yes, the Amsteel was literally cut into 2 pieces....
I loved my Turtle Ties until they failed. I noticed the area of the Amsteel strands where it loops through the Turtle Ties was getting worn looking (after about 8-10 hangings), and yesterday the...
Still available
That sounds like a really nice setup. I don't expect my hubby to sleep in it (other than an afternoon nap) so hopefully he won't have too much stretch. Thanks. :)
I've heard that drinking goats milk from goats who browse on poison ivy can give you immunity. I have no idea if it is true or not.
So excited! I just ordered his hammock: Warbonnet Double Layer Traveler XL in Light Ocean Blue, with just the continuous loops, and I also got him a pair of the Warbonnet carabiners that are rated at...
Thanks, Shug! I always appreciate you weighing in! I'll definitely take your advice. :)
We'll be taking it to set up in the park.
Thanks
I'm thinking of getting my husband a hammock, (though he is skeptical that he'll use it or like it.) I'm thinking a Heavyweight Double Layer Warbonnet Traveler. He is a very heavy man (5'9" and...
My husband is immune to it, too, as well as possibly some of our kids. Not sure about the kids... they may just have never gotten into it. But I know my husband has been in it when we cleared some...
BillyBob58, I read your post to my husband and he said, "Yep, you're in sync with that one!"
So far I've stayed dry, but I've not been out in any torrential downpours or blowing rain. I used to hang the tarp (a "postage-stamp asym") to my hammock straps, but now I've changed to a Warbonnet...
Still available. :)
I appreciate you all weighing in on this. I have been hanging it at an angle, and it is doing it's job so far, but wanted to know if I was doing it "right." Thanks, ya'll!
So, is it best to hang the tarp ridgeline level, or match it to the hammock's ridgeline angle?
Thanks
Welcome to the Forum! I'm relatively new to hammock camping as well, so I don't have the answers to your questions, but it sounds like you have a good plan forward! I'm still working out the kinks in...
#1: Hennessy Deep Jungle Zip (double layer hammock) w/ Heat Reflective Double Bubble Pad
Excellent condition, lightly used.

Both are SOLD :)
I won't be fully vaccinated yet by this one, so I think I'll wait for the next one. Have a good hang, and I'll catch y'all next time!

Y'all are awesome! Thanks for all the suggestions!
My hammock never touches the PI directly, and I avoid it myself like the plague, but somehow I still occasionally get it, so I know I must have somehow touched it. Even in the winter I can get it...
Thanks! I just ordered some, and it'll be in by tomorrow. (Gotta love Amazon Prime!)
I am very good at identifying it, there is just so much around here that it's hard to run a trail and not brush...
I've never been on any trail here that didn't have poison ivy as essentially ground cover along the sides of the trail... I can't imagine going barefoot. And yes, it does indeed grow tall and can get...
Options... I love options! Thanks!
The SLD ones look pretty cool. Thanks... once again the Forum comes through with great info! :)
Does anyone sell the snakeskins that are long enough to just use 1 instead of overlapping 2 (1 from each end)? I just use 1, but it isn't quite long enough without stuffing the last foot or 2 of the...
How do you RSVP? I would think on here, but I don't see where anyone has signed up, so I'm confused.
There is such a wealth of information and help for new hangers here on the forum. Welcome!
I tried out my Turtle Ties today in the park today... I LOVE them! They are cute, light weight, and super easy to use.
I am so prone to getting poison ivy that my caution to avoid it borders on phobia. Even in the summer I run/hike in leggings with socks that cover my ankles (usually with trail gaiters, too,) and if...
I'm also trying a new suspension system. Today my Turtle Ties came in and I'll be connecting a strand of Amsteel to Spider Web huggers and connecting to the hammock with the Turtle Ties. My huggers...
LOL!
Thank you for the advise... I'll try to avoid that.
Ok... I just placed my order! I ended up ordering a Charcoal Gray Hexon 1.0 Netless from Dutch, with a special request for 10' length instead of 11'.
I went back and forth on 9' or 10', and...
Yay! I just ordered, and decided to go with Hexon 1.0! :D
Yes, this is for my running hammock. It was going to go in the back of my hydration pack, but I've switched to a hydration pack with less space than previously, so it will be packed in a fanny pack....
I really hate poison ivy, and I worry about transferring poison ivy oils on my hammock and then getting poison ivy from laying in it another time. Has anyone had a problem with this?
