what kind of thread should i use when sewing silnylon?
i did a search but the word "thread" brings up all kinds of stuff.
no, im just impatient. i want it today, to sew on tonight. to try out this weekend. im sick. its a sickness.
yeah, i checked out all kinds of tow straps and cinch straps and ratchet straps. and none of them said if they were nylon or poly. its a conspiracy.
how can i tell the diff between poly and nylon?
poser here. i slept out friday night in the middle of bumf&@k, texas. the temp outside was 40 degrees at 10 pm. the temp inside the hh explorer was 45. i saw that 5 degree difference stay consistent...
im testing my new spe setup tonight in the backyard in 38 degrees. i feel like a poser next to you!
velly intellesting. do you have pics? also, what does all that knot tying do to the strength of the hammock line?
ok, dumb question. i like the eno slapstraps. can just anyone sew that setup or do i need to do something special to get it done in poly?
what about those of us....okay, me...who dont sew? who can we get nylon from that is already sewn? any entra...entrahpaner....any businessmen out there?
great point! and one that comes from experience. thanks!
in-tellesting.
ever try leaving the wings in place, pulling the maine pad out and rolling it around the spe to protect the material? just thinking.
i got my 4x4. now the question i have is...how do you pack it? youve got a regular 20 inche pad, the spe itself and 4 or even 8 pad wings. how do you guys pack them?
how do you tell if a strap is nylon or polypro? i have eno slapstraps and i have the original treehuggers that came with my hh. but i dont know what they are.
a source for tactical colored webbing material and hardware that i just found

there isnt much scarier a sound as a buck deer snorting and pawing when he gets your scent and cant figure out what you are. not usually very dangeroous but sounds like satan himself.
i have an expedition my self. im 5'10 and 190. hell,i thought it was the biggest one.
i made an unscheduled mod to my hh last night. i had the hammock up and was throwing the ball for my dog as i messed with lines and tarps and such. well, gus gets pretty excited about a tennis ball....
its a step back in the evolution of the hammock. they should call it the dodo.
they obviously dont know much about modern backpacking weight standards
this has been real interesting. im surprised at how many hang very low....even the hh people.
FIRST fall??????
im curious, how close to the ground do you hang? i like to be up 3 or so feet, just wondered what most folks do...
i wonder if a silnylon poncho would take the stress of the cord being pulled as the old military poncho does.
i am in the middle of pimping my hh now. ive got the mctarp...gone to a cambuckle on one end, slapstrap/carabiner on the other...and yesterday i cut my ridgeline. i lost light before getting it all...
ok, i set the hammock up, ready to cut the ridgeline and what do i find? the ridgeline comes out of the foot end as two lines, then ties off. what is going on?>
im looking at getting a spe....but im shocked at the weight! why does your spe/pad weigh so much? whats it made of?
it was just pointed out to me that this has already been talked about, complete with pics. a pox upon me.....im still working on screwing my courage to the sticking place.
well im this close to cutting my ridgeline but i was concerned about the knots and the strength loss. i wonder if there is a carabiner or snaplink or some combination of two of them that would take...
so how much weight does the ridgeline actually carry? if i tie three knots in the process of cutting it and putting in a carabiner...how much will i reduce the strength of that ridgeline? huh? huh???
the bugnet doesnt drag the ground?
im looking at taking my hammock on my thruhike. and as of now i plan on a 8-wing spe with as much blue pad as i need.
i am sooooooo close to cutting my ridgeline........but just havent been able to bring myself to do it yet.
im not in austin but im close enough. if ever there develops an austin...or central texas hammocking group let me know!
tom hennessy is good folks. he will take care of anything wrong with one of...
hooooooold on. i been following this. i just got some eno slapstraps. they stretch??????????
anybody got pictures?
hey, can i get in on this?
nothing wrong with the ridgeline of my hh but im very curious about the idea of cutting it and replacing it with biners to facilitate the sitdown. can someone who has...
so is there a final report on this drawer liner?
i think i carry too much line per tieout to wrap them around a figure 9...without it becoming a ball. that brings up another question..how much line do you give to a tie-out? i go about 12 feet
great stuff, warbonnetfella. i wrap my tarp cords on the stake also. i made a stake bag out of a cheap walmart stuffsack (3 in the package, of different sizes, one is perfect for stakes) with a major...
look, there are people out there, after all...
i use a figure eight to tie to my stakes.
i have some figure nines and i think they are just neato but i have found that the yellow plastic thingys...
well that is an interesting topic, johnny! i hope you get some good feedback. i will start it off.
i leave the line on my hammock but i dont on my tarp. i use the cabellas version of 3m triptease...
i put this thread in the long distance hiking forum for a reason:
i use a hennessy with a blackbishop tarp with a total of 6 tie-outs. but regardless of what hammock/tarp combo you use as a long...
if anyone in the austin texas area is interested, the fallapart in buda (thats south of austin on interstate 35) has a partial roll of gray silnylon in the dollar shelf. i hid it on the lowest shelf...
i got a bite. thread ended. thanks for reading.
i have the silnylon undercover and underpad for an asym for sale or trade. they are pretty much new, only used a couple times in the back yard. ive decided to go the spe route so im offering it for...
so what is dwr good for?
i plan to hike in 08 with a hh. starting from florida panhandle.
