my sister has lived in oz for 15 years and its still an 'event' when she sees a snake.....she's no...
i think the last person to die from a spider bite in oz was in the 70's......and there are LOTS! of spiders
David (forgot his surname) did say he would look into it on that loop alien thread when he joined up a while back
Yup, i'v spent plenty of time oz and south east asia. Loads of little nasties.....nothing some permathrin and a bugnet dont take care of
Yeah i wouldn't reccomend anyone buy the large UFA's.....they are just too expensive. it was only my completest nature that forced the purchase
Still think a bigger ti version would be...
While we are on the subject. I now hang from large titanium UFA LA's. Used in the same way that i tension my tarp in this vid

I like it because you...
They are alu dude, i'm sure of it
couple of years ago i stumbled upon a chap on ebay going by the name of scottytemplar. He was selling some hammock gear he'd made and after a few msgs back and forth he ended up making me a tarp. the...
The snugpak has a heavier shell material, plus those shock cords are twice the size of DD's....i would say the snupak has more insulation though. I didn't have them both at the same time, but from...
I used stainless knock offs for months with no wear. Now using genuine large titanium UFA's on the same lengths of amsteel
What are COG's please?
Is that cockney rhyming slang?
You probably have to be english to get that one....and i'm only joking :)
Thats awsome, and applicable to so many things......instantly stolen and claimed as my own to anyone not on this site :D
You learn something new every day. i always thought hobo was just another word for homeless person, i shall be reading up this thanks
You'll have good coverage on length but driving rain can get ya with a 3x3m tarp used on the diagonal, google images DD hammocks you'll see loads of 3x3's used in that way
I'm not a big d.i.y guy so probably just skipped over the posts.....but no one can resist looking at ne stuff from dutch can they :)
Yup, thats the one i was thinking of. Is dutch behind this MYOG gear site then?
Thought it turned out that was just some sort of compettion entry or something?
Which i should have done more closely, i was looking at the 1.7DL blackbird weight
a woodsmanx isnt really very heavy though, over 200g lighter than a standard blackbird. How heavy are intergrated bugnet hammocks made from hexon/robic?
i know its not the same as offering it as a...
The lengths i think are the same as a blackbird vs blackbird xcl. most likely the op is looking at ukhammocks products because he wont get stung with the import taxes he would if he ordered from the...
Here ya go

Yeah, at 50ft for less than $10 i wouldn't be shy about replacing it
Paul, i'v ordered some 1500lb stuff from china. When it arrives I'll send you some to play with if you want
My interest in speed hooks is because i'v been unknowingly using large UFA loopaliens in a very similar manner. i'v only had a few nights on them and some test hangs but so far the amsteel looks as...
That looked nasty. Did you batton down your tarp in the end?
Cheers, i only ask because speed hooks are new to me and i'm a loopalien fanboy.
Couple more questions if i may, how were you using the loopaliens exactly and have you got a link for the kevlar...
Got any close up pics?......hard to tell whats going on from those
Personally i think if seem sealing is gonna be required they should at least send the tarp with a tube included.
The two times i'v bought stuff that needed to be sealed they both came with the...
He's australian. little known *fact, all ozzys are in fact part galah. every man jack of them are like the homeless woman in home alone 2......but with galah's
Just had the same thing happen to me with kevlar straps......awsome service
There is one thing that needs a mention in this thread
Dude is HAND SEWING an UQ, TQ and tarp!.....that deserves some major respect imo
Op, have you ever slept on one of those huge car camping air beds in cold weather?......they are 5 inches thick and bloody freezing, a 1 inch thick thermarest is waaay warmer because it has...
Thanks chaps
The reason i ask is i happened to watch a speed hook video while looking for whoopie hook vids
Turns out i'm using loopalien large UFA's in much the same manner so was just...
Just a quick one folks
I'v heard of dutch speed hooks and and i'v heard of them failing.....but what was actually wrong, i'm guessing it was the stopper "knot" slipping off the end of the hook?
...
Try setting your hammock at 30* BEFORE you get in it.....no cranking needed fella
alfieoutdoors...Ha, i was too lazy to go back and look who it was :D
My winter tarp at sub 500g and summer tarp at 300g is not that heavy in reality but god **** cuben gets tempting everytime i...
It is crazy light eh, 370gr......i can see why that other fella earlier said he giggles everytime he picks his up!
looks like thats for the 11ft dude
Chaps, what the weight of a 12ft winter palace?
Just had a look on HG's site but didn't see it
Personally i would only go cuben if i'd already trimmed everything else down.....its got a high dollar to gram ratio
How's your pack, body and sleep insulation, boots, hammock, cook kit, water...
Wheres that sarcasm font when you really need it?
My vids are just about watchable at best, beats trying to describe all that in writing though
I don't think its a taboo as such. Its just that forums are full of people really into the subject so they tend have all the best gear.
If a sleeping bags works (which it will) then carry on
Not really a critisism or an argument on my part, just an observation
folks like to use straps in deep winter and really dirty gritty places for example...once these have been beefed up i can see...
i think once its been beefed up price and weight is likely put backpackers off tbh
just got my order in, gonna try a mule tape and loopalien hammock supsension....david, we cant help ourselves mate, its a fiddlin condition :D
Too pricey for me but those extra large LA's look...
Spot on fella.....c'ept my dad does hammock
octagon on here hangs from standard titanium LA's all the time.....i'v tried hanging from the genuine alu and UFA's just to see. they both held but no way would i trust them
I'v just got some marlow 1.8mm dyneema throwline to try with standard LA's, i'll let you know how it goes mate
With the 1.5mm stuff i use now the alu would wear a little over time
Amazingly so buddy.
Thats the main reason i use so many of em. just love the fact that one device can be used in so many ways, seems everytime theres a loopalien thread someone has a different way...
