Something unavoidable just came up and I have to be here on the 18th. Sorry, guys. This really sucks. I NEED to get into the woods!
Is that where we went a couple years ago? Hard to get a sense of which sites to pick, but I suppose they'd let us move if it wasn't to crowded....
Well, I had a couple of possible options, but it looks like they aren't panning out... The TRAILS at Mohican are open, but I can't get a straight answer about the primitive sites. I can't come up...
Let me check on something.....
I think that works for me. I'll confirm, but should be good.
Just talked to Revsbentley. He's didn't make the progress he hoped for, so no-go for him. My foot and knee are serviceable, but the back is gonna keep me home. Sorry, all... Hope to see you all in...
I've done Zaleski a couple times. Good option. Shawnee can be good, also. (Trees is the man for guiding us there.) I'm looking at something else, but it's iffy.
@Trees- We gotta get together, man! I miss hanging with you.
@BeardedLaugh - I''ll bop on over... I'll try to give MadTurtle a call and get him online, also.
This is ridiculous. I was out at a local park with my bud this morning and slipped on rocks crossing a stream. :scared: Metatarsals, knee and back got shocked. I'm still hoping things will settle...
Dang! I wonder what's going on....
@Beardedlaugh - If you want, we could start a thread now for March. I'd like to get out then also!
@Bannerstone - I had to look that up. Looks like fun. I assume it's filled up by now?
@Revs - Does a 3pm arrival at WC sound good, I could be at your place 12-1?
Well, I figure 2 hours from columbus and I'd like to get there way before dark. @Diz- Carpool once you get to Columbus? What's your timing?
Wildcat is new to me, so I'm in. Are we still talking 10-11?
Never did Wildcat. I've heard stories about it's mud, but I'm willing to brave it. Also walk-in and hike sites are there, right? My legs and back are all in good shape if we wanted a longer trek......
I'm in! Any date, any place within driving distance of Columbus! I don't have any recent info on Mohican, but if we want go there, I can call.
Anyone up for a hang this month? I prefer midweek ( I am SO retired!), but quite flexible. Drive in, walk in, backpack... what are you up for?
Not Michigan, does Ohio count? KD8GNC here. Never really operated while backpacking, but I've put up some Feldhell beacons on trips/
85 was another yard hang in September, pleasant but nothing to get excited about. 86 was a bit more fun. My best best bud since Junior High School bought a pop up trailer and wanted company to help...
Looks like somehow my August post got lost... Let's try again, shall we?
Made it out to one of my favorite parks on the last day of August. Late start, so I got in after dark. Pleasant...
Planenut: I love the locations! A few months back I tried hanging at our condo on Sanibel Island.... and was gently rousted by security!
#83. Winding down. Been doing this for almost 7 years and I've experienced quite a range of conditions. Down pours, Snowstorms, Lighting storms, temps from 105F down to 9F, Wind gusts up to about ...
#82. Backyard here, also. Decided to break out my original rig, a old, faded, DreamHammocks Roaming Gnome. Double layer Hyper D w/ permanent netting. A tad on the heavy side for backpacking, but...
I got #81 in on the 30th of May. Another yard hang, but I was hoping to catch some meteors. Laid awake most of the night and didn't see one. Oh well. Temps were in that sweet spot, no underquilt, a...
@jamaulwall - Where was that location? Gorgeous! I get an occasional hang in Northern Arizona and I love the open horizons there...
Of course, it CAN be a little tough to find trees .:D
Looks...
March was a tough month around here, but I snuck out to Mohican for a quick overnight. The card in my phone died, so no pics. Since I subscribe to "no pics, didn't happen", I did a yard...
Nothing that I'm aware of. I've got family/estate stuff for the next couple of weeks, but I could maybe take a break for a one nighter. Or we could think about something more fun for March?
@NMardin - It certainly is a great way to get your moneys worth out of your equipment!;) Of course, the real reason is to test how your rig works in all types of weather!
Got #78 under my belt...
Had a trip planned with a friend, but we decided to postpone due to temps lower than either of us had done in a bit. But since this thread is all about trying our equipment in all weather, I did a...
Revs and I talked about it and we decided to postpone Mohican at this time. We're both cold sleepers and 12ºF with wind didn't sound like fun for just two of us. I'll post again if we plan anything...
Looks like RevsBentley and I are heading up to Mohican Wednesday afternoon. Open invitation to all to join us. Normally the first person to sign in marks a "HF" on the sign in sheet to let folks know...
How about Mid next week? Maybe the 19th? Share a ride, it you want?
A bit late, but I got to get out. Anyone thinking of heading out this month? I'm up for almost anything. If no interest, I may just do a mid-week at Mohican.
Number 76 wasn't very exciting. A couple of trips fell through and with the holiday, I had to go back to my yard trees. The best part was that when I was getting ready to setup, it started pouring....
Got out to a non-public campground with MadTurtleCreek this past weekend. We brought food for a bunch of folk, but life caused cancellations for everyone except the two of us. Beautiful spot in a...
Month 74 in the bag. Headed out to Delaware State Park for a "combination" hang. Got my monthly in, my friend Mojo wanted to break in his Pop Up and it served as his bachelor party! I'd been to...
September done. Mild weather, clear skies. Very comfy and not a test of ANY of my gear....
#72. Six years. In a crappy drive-up-camping state park. Pulled in late in a heavy rain. Had the tarp rigged in a couple of minutes, then took my time setting up inside. Spending a nice night...
71. Broke out my original hammock again. Faded and repaired, but still a solid piece of gear. If I'm backpacking, I always take my freebird, but the Roaming Gnome is probably a skosh more comfy.
...
Number 70. Family health issues still keeping me local, but we had a heck of a storm forecast, so I tossed up my main tarp and my first ever hammock (notice how faded she is!). It poured, thundered...
Number 69.
Hauled out my old bug net for a try. It's been years since I've used and netting. Picariden and Permethrine have kept me bite free for years. The husk in the last pic was waiting for...
#68. Family issues still with us, so another yard hang...This month I HAVE to get out somewhere. Anyway, I DO enjoy the yard hangs. I've got two perfect trees on a dead end street. Pretty quiet and...

#66 done. We had a death in the family so it was a very local hang and no documentation. I'm ready for life to get back to something like normal.:(
Hobo jealous. Looks like a fantastic night, man.
Yeah, unfortunately, the health situation here is not looking good. I'm not gonna be able to get out this month. I'll sent you a text later today. Just a rough time here. When things clear up for me,...
A little late getting this out there, but I'd really like to get out this month. My family situation hasn't gotten much better, but I should be able to get out for a night. As a starting point, how...
Been doing this too long! I made a miscount. This last was 66, not 65, I believe.
Made a last minute run to Mohican for #65. Got there about 10pm in a steady rain. [emoji55] Expected the rain, so I'd dug out my Old Man Winter. Love that tarp!
No fire, sausage and cheese...
I didn't get out... yet. That sucks about your back... that was me earlier! Physical therapy did wonders for me. I wish you luck. I might run to mohican for a quickie before end of month... open to...
