It'll be good to see you Rockdawg!
Home Run, now that's a fine and fun work of poetry!
I think a lot of folks are excited to get back together in that beautiful place!
I know I am!
And it'll be good to see you again!
Hope it works out for you.
Looking forward to seeing all of you there!
Another fine weekend ahead!
And Thanks WV. I missed that.
I still don't know much about the spread sheets. I just copy the link (address?), past it in...
Thanks Pete.
I think either color tarp would be outstanding!
Bummer man... for us.
But I hope you enjoy the concert!
Not everyone in our group takes part in the Hammock Camping Demo on Saturday (10am till about 5pm) but there are usually 5 or 10 of us that spend at least part of that time at the demo.
I'll be...
Yes, that would be a great addition.
Thanks man.

Some only stay Friday through Sunday., but we have the group site Thursday through Monday for...
Glad you guys had a good trip.
And no bear!
Yes, the weather was great!
It started as the last two of us were putting our stuff in the car.
Then, it poured for quite a while.
One of our group, who I met for the first time, One Wipe, is a trail runner. He left earlier...
Yes, the weather!
That's why I camp high, in the summer!
Sorry you weren't able to join us Crawldaddy.
Finally did a report thread.

A hiking trip, June 23 - 26
Mt Rogers area, VA
From the Elk Garden parking lot, we took the AT as far as Rhododendron Gap for camping.
Some of the youngsters did a big day hike loop on Friday....
It was great! Thanks.
I'll tell about it in "Trip Reports" soon.
I used the Shenendoah as my UQ for 3 nights in the Mount Rogers area, this past weekend.
I don't think anyone had a thermometer, but the lows were probably around 50s, maybe into the upper 40s....
Very nice! I preferred foot trails rather than horse trails, for those very reasons.
Nice loop but maybe a little more than I would want to tackle after being out of the game so long.
I'll...
SubaruWx, thank you very much for the good info.
I do remember there not being many suitable hammock sites. We may need to proceed down the Pine Mountain trail.
Very useful info. Thanks.
I was thinking about you guys and hoping you were taking care in this heat.
Great.
Someone pulled up an over head shot of the Elk Garden parking area and it's not as big as I pictured it in my memory.
The hikers planning to go on the trip we have planned week after next...
I love the mountains!
Thanks Gunner. I'll keep that in mind.
Hope all is well with you and The Terminator.
Ahhh... I thought you were talking about Elk Garden, Mt Rogers area.
Sounds like it!
Hope this weekend is just as good or better.
From what I remember and what others have said, it's not bad.
Got ya.
Thanks.
Dvankirk, thanks.
Good info. I'll look into it for future use.
We have decided on a 3-night backpack, starting at Elk Garden and playing it by ear.
When you say the water source isn’t close or convenient, are you saying it's there, just a little hike off the trail to get to it?
I was wondering how things went for y'all last weekend.
Working on getting my pack weight down too!
Yes, I watched that, went back to review parts.
I only stayed one night, along side 105.
Shug and Hickery stayed for a few nights of backpacking, after we spent a few hours at the Livermush...
I used the Shenendoah one night in Linville Gorge.
It only got down to about 50 but I feel sure it will take me a little lower.
I attached line locks to each corner with 1/8" shock cord running...
Yes, I have lots of fine memories from that area.
When I used to take groups backpacking there, I didn't think much of it when a person or two wanted to pet and feed the ponies.
But after I...
Thanks Twistytee.
I'll report on it. Hope to spend a few nights on the trail soon.
In my younger years I solo hiked form the bottom to the top of Mt Mitchel twice, once from Carolins Hemlock Campground and once from the other one on highway 80, once in spring, one in winter.
Not...
Thanks Twistytee.
I thought the size would match, I just wasn't sure if the elasticity of the shock cord would keep it from getting a good bite.
Just got the Shenendoah to use as a summer under quilt.
I didn't order the suspensions set because I had one like JRB uses.
When I put it on the hammock, there is no adjusting toward one end or...
Sounds interesting!
Where might that be?
Yep, lots to see here!
I have gone in that way, to Old Orchard and beyond.
One concern is that I don't know how many might join us and how many other cars might be in the lot.
Nice job with the map.
Lots of good information. Much appreciated.
I've only hiked in from Elk Garden once, many years ago. Seams like there was a water source part of the way in but I don't remember how good of a source...
Good point.
Looking for a place at higher elevations and cooler weather and not too strenuous, and water is not an issue.
Hoping for too much?
Hope to do no more than 3 or 4 miles per day. Just...
We thought about you Roger and wondered if we would see you and your sons.
Hope your son gets better quick.
And we hope Rhonda will get well soon too.
And thanks for letting me borrow your...
Glad you can join us. If you are getting there at noon, you can just hike in with us. But I'm sure you are like me in that I like to be familiar with were things are, even if I'm hiking in with...
Glad you can make it Tom Tom.
PG and I were thinking to get to Yates around noon Friday and start hiking about noon if any others want to do that.
Of course, I'm sure some will have different...
Hickery has one. I couldn't get the hang of it ;~)
Hopefully another one soon.
No problem, Rhonda.
Glad to have you.
Leonard still have work to do?
Cool, stories can be fun.
Hope we'll see you there.
Maybe something will change Tom Tom, but if not, it shouldn't be long before another one.
Hope it works out for you Pappy Amos.
