If you make it full-length, it will also act as a windbreak. It's up to you, though: what are your goals? ultra-light? Car-Camping? Heavy Fog camping? That will help you determine what size to...
I have used a PL as an overcover. Used the ties to attach corner to corner and it worked fine. In high humidity and cool, you might not like the condensation, but in my near-zero humidity climate...
It's just overloaded right now.. too many people pushing refresh, or something...
My local surplus store sells used ones for $20... some are in better shape than others.... options are digital camo or Vietnam era jungle camo... occasionally I find one that is nice and fluffy...
I think it is called warm window. . . There are a few threads on it. It is heavy and does not drape well... and not compressible.
If you are looking for a cheap uq project, try a poncho liner...
Antici —---------------------pation!
It is worth the wait....
If you are using a pad, dl is the way to go. For summer use, though, even a small underquilt would be light and offer better coverage. Half of a poncho liner should get him into the 50's, and be...
No, that stuff just stops fabrics from absorbing water. In a good rain, the holes can drip from the pressure, or it can wick through...
+1 on cuyamaca. The state parks have trail maps for $6 I.think.... lots of great hikes... some to old gold mines, too... if you have time, you could borrow my foot and afield in san diego. Big...
Truthfully, people here are good folk. Otherwise I wouldn't help moderate this forum.
The rules are clear: Any deal "in the works" and not finalized, as in your case, is a deal that either party...
Lots of places. Torrey Pines State reserve is ocean-bound, and near Del Mar. Great ocean bluff hike. . .
If you want to get into the local mountains (~1 hour drive) There are lots of hikes... ...
Doesn't sound spitefull. . . sounds like she's luring you out. . .
That sounds totally awesome, but I'm not sure I could sleep knowing that I was THAT high off the ground...

ripstop at Waldo world is totally hit and miss. Found it twice 3 years ago, been dry ever since... But I still check 2 WM's every couple of months... not sure why...
John
That and hanging below desks with an unbathed crew must have been great. I am sure sailors of that time were short anyway...
If weight isn't a big deal, Poncho Liner UQ would be fine. Doubled PL's work down to the high 40's. Heck, cut one in half and make an UQ.
The other option would be to take a layer of fabric,...
Dave is so sexy he has to keep the ladies away at gunpoint....
Glad they didn't remove your sense of humor!
Speedy recovery my friend....
John
Worst case: Mechanics hand cleaner... removes grease from anything, just don't get the stuff with pumice grit...
Glad to see the CA contingent growing.
Welcome aboard from San Diego!
I would not make UQ's or hammocks out of Sil. Though technically breathable, they'll breathe so poorly that I personally would be a sweat ball by morning.
Tarps: yes... Maybe an UQ protector if...
I've seen it done both ways. It didn't appear to me that the noseeum would fray, so I got lazy, though the Great and Retired Dutch folded his over...

Yep, just got back myself from scout camp. So-Cal is a different place, with ancient oak groves, and few places to hang, so on the cot it was.
Still had fun, but wish I had my hammock.
+1! what he said... sealing the grosgrain would just trap water, you want it to breathe so it will eventually dry... the point of seam sealing is to keep from getting dripped on...
Always interested. . .
If you can't wait, send me the cut fabric and I'll hem it for you... pay return shipping...
John
Oh, guaranteed to have wavy stitch lines. . .
Not being at work. Hanging with friends. Everything else is a bonus.
John
Honestly, that little pack gets a lot of use and is really well designed. It is big enough for a change of clothes... sans shoes...
It stuffs into a little sack smaller than your fist, which is...
Awesome idea... I have to say that I have their king size hammock, and it is my favorite lounger... far more comfortable than anything else I own...
Oh, their mini backpack is the coolest thing...
3 months should go pretty quickly. Here's to a speedy recovery. At least a week in a rehab ctr will help you decide to avoid that old folk's home someday.
Hmmm... somebody should set up a...
You're all invited to San Diego to hang with me...
I won't rub it in by sharing temps, but just reading this thread makes my wallet hurt less when I think about my mortgage payment...
John
The deal with prussik's is that they work better when it's a smaller line wrapped around a larger one.
That, and zing-it is designed to be slippery.
I generally tie Klemheists instead, but...
OH! THAT machine... well... I'll save you some trouble... just ship it to me and get something else... :D
As long as you have the parts, that machine should serve you well...
John
The thread guide could be improvised, but not the needle holder... it's at a precise depth. . .
Take it to a sewing machine shop, I bet they have the part laying about...
John
I like to explore a bit, hang out...
There's a reason we call fire Cave Man Television... it's just relaxing. . .
You might need stronger shock cord, pull the UQ tighter, but you might have over-tightened the end channels...
Let us know.
Look closely at the people in the hammock.... the two on the sides look like they're holding on to keep from rolling in the middle . .

Dave, Glad you're taking the plunge. Anything I can do to help? We're all pulling for you. Recovery isn't always fun, but make sure you DON'T do what I did... TAKE YOUR PAIN MEDS, then back them...
The TQ and UQ's would be amazing! Nice job Hair!
I bet you'd find one near you that you could try...
My daughter doesn't like hammocks, but when I setup my RR, she exclaimed "It's like laying on a cloud!" and spent the night in the back yard...
From a hammock perspective, I would have 3:
WB Ridge Runner, DIY BB clone, and DIY BB Clone with a fabric cover instead of a net. I live in a dry climate, and when sleeping in a hammock I lay...
I have a double-ended stuff sack that is WAY too big. Fits in the pack better, as it conforms to the shape of the pack. My TQ and DIY WBBB style hammock fit wonderfully...

I found a silver sharpie works well on 1.1 ripstop and doesn't show through...
Lots of folks have indicated that sewn-through is a pain, so use lots of pins...
-- waiting to see how this looks...
Gortex is pretty heavy... maybe sell the bivy and buy some Silnylon?
It wouldn't be hard. Just a windproof piece of fabric, channels sewn on each end, and corner loops sewn on... Add some light shock cord in the channels, and some for suspension...
Heck, send me...
NOW you tell me!
Oh: Watch RamblinRev's videos!
****, just got the machine and he has it BAD...
Welcome to the addiction! Just remember: New needles, and good thread make the project work! I have a similar machine. Though it isn't perfect,...
Last time there, never saw a Bear or even signs of one...
No pics, but I use a 2' ish piece of light shock cord for the doors. I tie.each door to the opposite tie out. Makes for easy entrance and exit.
I don't recall, but I think it was Shug's idea....
