Hello fellow Ontarian.
Am I the only one that uses continuous loops to make my prusiks?
The toggle system he used was very interesting
I spent most of Saturday night making all the various ties outs for my new Super Fly (I know boring Saturday night) and it went much much better as I went along.
The reverse splice was easy. Fold...
Yep, he is a big furry ham.
Where in Ontario are you? We had lots three weeks ago then the sun shone and temps went up and it went quick. However it got cold again and the lakes were making ice...
I am very fortunate to trip in places that are impacted in the same way by heavy traffic.
Here is some shots of it set up with the tarp in porch mode. First lie in it was amazingly comfy.

Last one is my dog.
Still have to make a few tie outs for it...
Actually part of the draw of the hammock with me was the making a campsite where before I couldn't. I travel is vast tracts of seldom travelled area by canoe. Sometimes before I can set up camp, it...
I predominantly travel in areas where there is very little soil over the rock and as a tenter it was always an adventure guying out the tent and tarps. Now I am switching to the hammock there is but...
Post office opened at 10am and I had it in my hands 10:05. Set it up, had a lie in it and WOW! It's bloody cold (-15C)out right now so just came in for a bit to warm up and make some tie outs for the...
Where I normally travel the temps routinely fall to single digits (CELCIUS) at night even in August. I'm sort of wondering what sort of under quilt I would need, a three season or winter one.
Crap! The hammock is in, but......I only get mail here from the post office, and I missed the closing time of 5 AND they are closed tomorrow for the holiday. So the hammock is here, but I can't get...
Part of the attraction of the hammock is that it mean no more sleeping on roots, pine cones, rocks, slopes, humps, dips and anything else that may be on the ground. But I've seen mention of what's...
I'm pretty sure the sole purpose of your post Martyn was to show off your Dutch Bling. Lol , looks awesome, and I agree the end result will be well worth it.
I like the idea of those needles dutch sells but there isn't any hope in hell I am spending $2 for two needles and $38.60 for shipping +25% exchange. Anybody know a Canadian source for splicing fids?
Glad I bought my Zing It last week. Not so much because of the size, but more because of the colour.
I ordered mine on the 25th and it was shipped on the 27th.
Initially when I put in the order I was under the impression it would take a week to make, but alas I got notification today it was shipping. Now I am excited.
If that price was Canadian it would impress me.
Yes yes yes, i watched those videos several times. Very good videos and helpful. I am trying to get a hold of some guitar strings now.
The rope I ordered came in Tuesday from Redden Marine a day earlier than promised and I've been playing around with it. I got 300ft of 7/64"Amsteel and a roll of Zing It.
First little experiment...
After much research, reading and a tonne of video watching and re-watching I have decided on the WBB XLC and the Super Fly. I never thought I would spend twice as much for a single person shelter...
commenting for further reference.
Bruce Peninsula NP is a gorgeous park, there isn't ever a Calendar of Ontario that is is produced without including a picture of the shore line. I highly recommend that place. The Bruce Trail runs...
This topic reminds me a Dave Hadfield (brother of famed Canadian Astronaut Chris) song called Bushwhacker. A story of young boy who hears a big monster outside his tent, trying to get in and it turns...
Haha, opulence, right. I look at the back packers and wonder how the heck they manage with just a single pack, but then realize it's a different kind of travel. I do have some "luxury" items but most...

Does anybody use an additional tarp? I am (for the moment anyways) a tent camper and canoeist, but in the past few years have begun hanging dual tarps. I always hang one over the door of the tent to...
I never got free shipping. Maybe only in the US?
The name of my canoe.
Hello from the colonies.
Hey fellow Ontarian. How far North are you?
Figure if I do a continuos ridge line I would need up to 60-75 feet after adding loops and whatnot. Up to 20 feet for each end of the hammock. Add a ridge line, some loops for making prusiks and we...
I am searching for a Canadian online dealer for Amsteel and so far have any been able to secure one and they only offer 7/64.
So I have specific questions about rope sizing, specifically, is it...
I have one of those fancy do-dads that will give me the whole weather but other than for interest sake it proves to useless. If the barometer is dropping it is dropping and I'll still go or stop...
Hello neighbour.
I know a guy who ran a canoe outfitting business who treated customers the same way. He never left any one stranded and never let anyone down, but just had piss poor customer service ethics. He is a...
After years of lying in a tent I think I am ready to reduce the load and stress on the back and try out the hammock.
After some researching I think I am going to opt for the Warbonnet Blackbird...
