Bummer! And, you're welcome.
My pleasure :)
Thanks. I do not see any significant differences in the newer version. Looks like it is at least partially the line used in suspension for the hammock. Otherwise I cannot tell any difference in the...
Its been about 9 months since I bought the REI hammock and posted a review here (see https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php/136908-REI-Quarter-Dome-Hammock-Review). I have had it out...
I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Side sleeping is much improved. I think I spend more time on my side now than my back.
I had the Quarter Dome Air out for three nights this week and thought I would update this review.
Clearly the traps are too short for my part of the country. Four foot straps will not get around...
Glad it was beneficial to you.
lol. While I appreciate the offer, I think I'm going to have to pass. Maybe if you added another 0 to the right side of that number
The hammock lists for $220. I applied my $50 rebate to it, plus 20% off because of a sale, plus a $100 gift card from getting an REI credit card. All in all I paid about $50. Think I got a good deal...
I believe the stock guy lines that come with the tarp are more than long enough to setup in porch mode, although I have not tried that yet. If the weather is promising I generally setup the tarp and...
You're quite welcome. I think it is a great hammock.
I'm not certain how big of an issue this will be, at least where I hang. I don't generally experience blowing rain in the woods I tramp in, although I do try and avoid going out when much rain is...
I have spent a couple of nights in the REI hammock and did not have an issue with either shoulder squeeze or sleeping on my side with an UQ; I actually found it to be very comfortable. I am 6' 1" and...
I bought an REI Quarter Dome Hammock, receiving it in the mail on Monday and spent the last couple of nights in it. It is my first experience with a bridge hammock so cannot really compare it to any...
I bought one of these and received it in the mail on Monday and decided to spend the night in it last night, in my backyard. It is my first experience with a bridge hammock so cannot really compare...
A friend and I spent 4 days backpacking along the Pacific Crest trail in Washington between Stevens Pass and Snoqualmie Pass. This was a magical 74 mile adventure through some of the most scenic...
This section of the trip covered the southern third of the PCT as it winds through Oregon, from Crater Lake to Seiad Valley in California. Had a pretty good trip and looking forward to a section in...
There were a few days were the bugs were a nuisance, but mostly they either non-existent or just a minor issue. I hope they are still not an issue when I head out into the North Cascades this...
I have spent the past 2+ weeks hiking and hanging along the southern 2/3's of Oregon's PCT. It's been a great journey. Below is a description of the first part of the trip.

I have heard that before. The problem is that it is hard to find something much smaller than the zing-it that I am using for my ridge line, that is still big enough for my fingers to be able to...
Doesn't it slide some with zing-it? That's the problem I had with prussics. Even with 4 wraps they had a tendency to slide a bit. And were hard to loosen up to move.
I was initially. It's why I ended up with a 17" bury. Now it seems to be pretty secure. I'll be out again in a couple of weeks and see how it goes.
I guess that is what they are called. I knew there was a name, UCR, for the tie-outs, but could not remember what it was.
So yes, a continuous ridge line with a pair of UCR's, one on each end and...
I have been using a MacCat Deluxe for a year now and using a pair of long zing-it lines for a suspension. I wrap the zing-it around a tree using a stick for a toggle and then out to the tarp where I...
The best tip I can give you for hanging in the rain is just to do it. The best place to learn is in your backyard so you can easily bail if something goes wrong.
Setup the tarp first and take it...
I just did the northern most segment of the PCT (section L in Washington). Had no problem finding a place to hang, although there are some long alpine stretches where the trees are sparse.
As expressed earlier, it depends of the size of the trees you are wanting to hang from and how much time you are willing to invest in finding a hang spot. I am currently using the 14 foot straps...
Last year I was carting a tent around, as a part of a 45-55 pound pack and considered a 12 mile day to be pretty extreme. I shifted to a hammock over the winter, which made sleeping much better but...
That's what I use & it's works pretty well.
I sidesleep in my BlackBird without a problem
Me too!
I have my figure 9's directly attached to the tie-out loops on my tarp. They stay there all the time and when I put out the stakes the guy-lines loop around them and then attach to the figure 9's.
Greetings fellow Washingtonian. Welcome to HF.
This seems pretty similar to using tieouts on the tarp body, with the advantage of not having additional lines strung around camp.
I have a solo trip across the Northwest corner of the Olympics planned in July and a section hike of the PCT with a friend in August.
I also plan on monthly trips up to the Olympics for short 1...
Welcome, from the other side of Puget Sound.
I have tried a couple of times to just leave them loose in the tarp as I slide the snakeskins on, but I seem to always get a little tangle. I have changed for the next trip and will see how it goes....
There are several drop-off & pick-up points for luggage that are past Centralia. Check http://www.cascade.org/EandR/stp/stp_baggagesvc.cfm for specific locations.
It is possible that you might find a place to hang. But I sure wouldn't count on it. Are you planning on staying in Centralia, or are you going to push on farther the first day? Centralia has a...
I realize that Saturday night would be better for most, but my buddy and I are both involved in our church and try to minimize Sundays away. Already have several scheduled in the coming months and...
Good to know. I have encountered one cougar some years back on the Duck. One of the highlights of my time in the Olympics. Don't know about my buddies friend, but we are both 6 footers (plus) and...
My buddy and I, along with maybe a third, are planning on spending the night at the Elkhorn campground on the Dosewallips river on the east side of the Olympics. We will be going in on Friday, April...
Good to know. Thanks.
It is a bit challenging because of my big fingers and need for reading glasses. But I did not have any real problems with it, although I was using 1.75mm Lash-It.
Maybe I've seen you out there over the years. Almost applied for one of the temp positions in the WIC this year. Think I'm going to pull the plug on working about this time next year and may well...
The ride was well supported. There are about 9000 riders altogether. The first 10-15 miles is pretty crowded with all the bikes. You basically have the road to yourself for the first 20 or so...
I made this ride 3 times (05-07). It is a nice ride. But it did wear on my 50+ body. Plus preparation for it takes away from backcountry time. :D
Happy Resurrection Day. He is risen! :)
It really depends on where you are going and your maturity level (which I have no way of knowing). Hiking the Hoh up to, but not onto, the Olympus glaciers in July or August would probably be OK, so...
