Insulated booties...
Do you have any pics with detail of sewing?
I do small game hammock hunt/camp overnighters on private land by me every so often - do the no cooking/stove thing while I'm at it.
If I could combine the above with canoe travel also, then most...
Keep phone/flashlight/batteries, butt wipes, and liquid filled compasses on you. That's why multi-pocketed vests rock.
Make sure all knots are one-tug, quick-release in case of freezing rain.

Hey brother :)
No tarp. 0% chance of rain.
I had the sock unzipped for only about 1' of opening at about 1:00.
I was out this weekend in pretty much the same conditions you describe but I had the WB Travel Sock, a WB Traveler hammock, 0°F UQ, 20°F Slick bag, Kifarue Doobie Express as an elephant foot (and...
It depends on the weather/time of year...

no wind driven cold air getting between thy UQ and hammock
The shelf would still be there but it would not be pulled out unless you got more creative :)
I did not but it only went down to maybe 28°F that night.
I got the newest version of the Warbonnet Travel Sock about a month or so ago. They may be found here:

There is no more...
My pics disappeared but here are new ones.
I clipped it right to my cinch buckle with a small S-biner. It is perfect with just the right amount of tension to rest on my Traveler hammock's ridge...
I got one of the new WB Travel Socks yesterday.
No cinch cord. Just a slit.
...
It would totally work because the 2x4 cross piece (even "on its side") is under compression.
I'm looking to buy your used but good condition Warbonnet Travel Sock :)

The "pew pew method" it is :thumbup1:
I totally agree :)
Want the ideal 30 degree "hangle"?
It would be great if there were a simple rule like the "3-4-5 triangle" worked but it gets you to about 37 degrees.
I figured out that you can use a similarly...

Anything wrong with just using heavy duty sawhorse bracket hardware?

Need to make legs...
Yeah - I agree.
It is a great alternative if you bust or lose a 'biner though. I will use it for a while and see how it goes...
Here's a vid :)

It seems to work fine. I'm using a 4" piece of hornbeam branch with the bark still on and it still can slip out for untying with one good tug from my buckle + strap suspension.
...
Yeah, I wanted something that would be more quick release like a 'biner and easier on the webbing than a bight.
I guess I'll just try it out this weekend and play with it... hang low JIC ;)
Do you all think this toggle would work instead of carabiners for a quick release tree strap or is it not strong enough?

3 hammocks in a triangle, central area covered in tarp :)

WOW!
That's my kinda of canoe camping!
Have boat, will travel!
These days, I don't use a clip or 'biner. I just go around the tree and tie a bowline around the webbing to the hammock.
Most folks have no problem with using a marlin spike hitch + toggle with a...
I will take it.
PM incoming.

Yeppers on the "banana in the bowl" thing :D That's why I just deflated the thing.
I'm thinking an uninflated Xtherm alone may be a good enough alternative to an UQ in 40+ degree weather. It would...
I have had the Xtherm on ice on the ground only inflated 1/3 and be just fine because they achieve their high R rating from the reflective material. On another note, I have used them with the wrong...
I try to hang short (distance between trees) and this let's me hang the straps (and the whole profile of the hammock) lower while still getting an optimum angle. I look for 10' spans between trees.

Should we be sewing an ellipsoid into the slit then?

Ya know that you shouldn't drink while at work eh Klaussinator?
I did notice that the towlie thing was posed rather limp. That's why I chose my model to be firm and erect... displaying a...
BTW, I cut the lines into the width of the hammock diagonally (i.e. non-perpendicular to the edges).

That little model looks great gmcttr! I figured I could give it a try also... :D
I did mine about half the size you did.
Here it is as a regular hammock.

Where's Klaussinator with the GI Joe doll? I figured he'd be the first to the punch :D
Ya - what is a "flat felled seam"? Anybody have a pic please?
Please do!
I like to mod stuff but I am out of my league with sewing. I tried some cuts which are not perpendicular to the edge but instead going towards the center of the hammock and that seems...
It seems to me that in order to lay the most flat in a hammock when on the diagonal that one could simply cut a straight slice into the width of the hammock and then sew additional material into the...
