I use an underquilt.
I did the LT in 1999 and barely used my tent in lieu of shelters. Would be very do-able in a hammock, with good bail outs if you can't hang.
#695 shipped today. Just in time for a trip to the Enchantments!
I just stuff a piece of fleece in my footbox.
Weighing your stuff is good, but may lead to other purchases . . .
Burpees before bed.
All done . . .
Sale pending . . .
Still available! I'll now pay for shipping!
One thing I hated about tents was taking poles. It seems cool, though. I was thinking of getting a pair for my backyard hangs. I don't think I'd put them in my pack, however.
another vote for 20. I like a 3/4 for my 3 season UQ.
Still available. Bump for the weekend . . .
HG fan over here!
Good stuff. Looks fun. My kids love our Connect.
Full length in winter. Shorty all other seasons.
We're good, man. Save me from myself!
I raid the WallyWorld camping section for my kids. They love all the doo dads that I don't buy for myself.
I'm in Seattle. I'll send it to you, if you want it.
I have a 0, 20 and 40 degree underquilt. I use a 20 degree TQ even in quite cold temps. I use a converted Costco down throw as a warmer TQ.
Nice starter tarp. Pitch twice in my backyard.
$50 plus shipping.
Thanks all!
We take an old ENO hammock & my Alite Monarch for dayhike chilling.

Also weight. The Econs are heavier.
I'm a lazy man. And a fiddler. I clip.
Dutch has good starter hammocks that are quite reasonable and light!
Great stuff! Thanks!
HG Econ Phoenix - this is around $100.
Tenacious, buddy. It'll be OK.
Peeeeeeerfect . . .
My hammock sleep is pretty dark. Dreamless.
Argon is cotton-ey. But stretchy.
Dutch hammocks. His regular is a great starter hammock . . .
A HG Econ Phoenix is calling your name!
Very helpful! I saw one of these at REI the other day, but was in too much of a rush to climb in.
Fiddly. Maybe too fiddly.
Hoping my 7 year old will take to hammock camping this season. It'll be hard to separate her from her tent . . . she certainly loves napping in the hammock in the backyard.
Perfect! Can't wait for mine to arrive.
Anxiously awaiting . . . I'm in the mid-300s.
Zing it: 12' at each end of ridgeline and 6' at the tie outs.
I use my 11' tarp as a general guide for a good pitch on my 11' hammock. If all fits in well, I know I've got a good hang.
Depends. If iffy, I usually keep a sweatshirt handy to stuff in my footbox. If I know I'll get cold, I put a pad in there.
Looks great! Where did you go?
I'm too old to sleep on the ground!
Pitch lower.
I've never had hypnic jerks while sleeping in my hammock. but I usually don't have them in a bed either.
Fellas: the adjustment of the end cinch alleviated some, but not all, of the problem. It seems I'm getting a gap at the foot end along the flattened portion along my leg on a diagonal lay. Right...
I have a wide version because I'm a side hammock sleeper and sleep on the ground occasionally. It's great.
Thanks much for the advice all. I think it may be over-cinching the ends, because it wasn't coolness at pressure points, but a longitudinal band of coolness along my lower back and down. We'll see...
I spent a night in the backyard in the old HG Phoenix 40 and was battling some coolness on the nether regions for a bit. Low temp was about 50. I blamed the breeze, because I've been comfy in this...
