Not around this year. Bummed, for sure, but stuck in the icy winter of the North Slope of Alaska.
Another successful WA State Mid-Winter Hang! I'll post a video synopsis from my perspective soon.
Thanks to all who attended! I'm looking foreword to next year's!
Welcome to the forum!
We're doing a group hang this weekend in Ellensburg at the Umptanum Canyon Park. Check out this thread and join us if you can! You can stop by and see a bunch of rigs, and...
Okay! tonight is the night! (theres a song about that.)
The weather isn't very wintery, but expected to be quite beautiful!
I will be there later this evening (around 9pm). I'll make a big pot...
Not a dumb question. But it's simple! Once you ross the suspension bridge, you'll cross under the rail road tracks. Stay on the main trail going straight, staying in the valley. About 1/4 mile in...
Free parking in the Winter!
Getting psyched! Just a couple of weeks away!
Though, if the weather trends continue, we may want to call this the WA State Early Spring Hang.
No parking permits needed. There is a $5 fee for parking from May to September, but that does not apply for this outing.

See you...
There are plenty of trees! There are even a few more places to change a bit further down the canyon. We've had as many as 8 people in that stand of aspens with plenty of room to spare.
Foggy weather kept me indoors today (in my shop), But I'll drive out to the Umptanum Canyon tomorrow and get some pics of the hang site.
This strange, and very warm winter is,...
Glad this'll work into your schedule. I look foreword to having you guys out there.
Hey everyone,
Looks like the secondary site fell through. So Umptanum Canyon is the site, again, of the WA...
Sorry for the delay. I'm still working on the details. I'll have something, including a video by Tuesday. The dates of Feb 20-22, 2015 are still a go.
Well,..
Right now the hand will occur February 20-22 in Ellensburg, WA. The place will either be Umptanum Canyon or another location (Menastash Creek Valley) yet to be disclosed, as I am still...
Hey guys!
I'm good with the February 20-22 dates. I've been swamped this past year but I'm ready to get hanging again!
I also have a suggestion for a new spot to hang in Ellensburg proper that...
Headed out there now.
At least it finally "looks" like winter!
See you all soon!
10 day forecast is calling for some colder temps and maybe a little snow by the weekend of the hang. Be prepared for single digits at night!
Not much snow on the ground. it's been a pretty warm and snowless winter so far. We got an inch on the ground two days ago and its about all melted. The temps have been mid to upper 30's with during...
Looking foreword to having locals attend the hang!!!!
Kind thanks Boomer. I enjoy making it!
Badass, eh? :eek::scared:Golly gee!:scared::eek:
OK Folks!
I'm sooo ready for this hang!
Sorry for not participating more fully earlier, but the plate was a bit full. Not that I've cleared it, I'm ready for a little desert!
So, to maybe...
I'll get the wood.
Sorry you won't be there, Mugs. I know I was bummed not to be there last year. Work can sure throw a wrench into the outdoor life!
It's a cool and easy locale. Hope to...

This is an oooolldddd vid, but it shows how quick and easy the drive and hike are to the site.
How do you all feel about Feb 8-9, 2014?
I enjoyed the vids. Thanks for sharing your time. Solo hikes are a blast, and the self talk I have is very similar to the stuff you share with us. Nice to know that I'm not alone (while hiking alone).
I didn't mind sharing the sites with the ground dwellers. Made me enjoy my hammock that much more.
Those are called Salmon Berries. Kin to the raspberry, and just as tasty.
That was my favorite hang that trip!
Thanks! The campsite pictures were the highlight of each day.
I've heard that the weather can get like that often. We were very lucky, and enjoyed it!
I took over 433 pictures, I can't...
:D:lol:Dang!!!:lol::D
I ate breakfast, lunch and dinner and dessert every night. Also I had lunch at both Longmire and Sunrise, which helped to lower the weight. Those Packit Gourment meals are filling.
So...no weight...
Here's my trip report: https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php?t=80388
Awesome trip, I'm looking foreword to doing it again!
I'll take it.
:shades::boggle:Too cool!!!:boggle::shades:
Well, get out there!
You bet Paul. I'll get to your all's hang at some point. Those Sawtooths!
Tripod- Gorilla pod. I also had a Stickpic.
Camera- Nikon Coolpix S9500. I took 2 batteries. Next time, I'll bring 3. 4 if I do video.
Glad to inspire! It sure inspired me while I was there....
Totally doable by hammock. I even say hang potential at Mowich Lake, though, I'd avoid that site. It's not very scenic and is a drive-in campground.
Thanks. The sights were stunning, i just...
Worth doing. I hope you next try gets you out there!
Most of the campgrounds are in the trees and pretty easy to find a spot. I would recommend Mr. Burgess's videos of the campgrounds, so you...
This is a trip that’s been on my list for some time (http://www.wonderlandtrailguide.com) and if you’re into a cool, beautiful, long hiking trip, I highly recommend it. There has been much...
Thanks for sharing Paul!
That wilderness looks amazing! And the fishing!!!!
Thanks for the reply.
On Nickel Creek. What to you mean by "poor"?
I don't mind a walk for water. No worse than Klapatche Park, where St. Andrews lake is the preferred water source.
Again,...
I'm headed out there from Aug 17-26. My research leads me to feel pretty confident about hanging. I'm going to be the only hammocker in a group of 6. The ground dwellers seem sceptical about my...
Cool report and cool knife adventure. Glad that the tool is a practical and useful tool for you. Were you referring to Paul at AHE?
Batoning, even with a small blade can make short work out of big...
PM sent. Sounds like a great deal!
Check out this site: http://www.williswall.com
There's some good info, and the site's creator is very easy to communicate with.
I'm headed out on the Wonderland in August. Hopefully the snow's melted by then.
I'll take it.
Paul,
Thanks for posting and sharing your trip! Man, beautiful views and the fishing... Way awesome creative hang techniques as well.
Bill,
I love my Greenland style paddle! Versitile, light and to my eyes classy. Also I love the questions and looks I get from other paddlers.
Kalmed,
This was my first kayak/hang. Loved...
That is exactly where I took my biggest drink! I tried to eskimo roll twice, but no joy. I knew I had no air left, so bailed. fortunately didn't hit my head on a rock. The Black Rock beanie stayed on...
Thanks mugs! I was so bummed not to join you guys for the winter hang. I had to get out, though and that was my chance. Next year, I'll be all over the winter hang.
Earlier this month I took a float trip down a section of the Yakima river with some friends. I went with friends who were ground dwellers, and true to my nature, I had to do a few things different...
Any word on how the hang went? I'm still in AK, but would love to "hear" about the details.
