Thom
It's been two months and two trip's use of a couple additions to our Kelty Noah tarp collection and thought i'd share a picture of our van and a Noah 9 over the rear swing out camp kitchen area. We...
My wife and I do carry bear spray at the recommendation of forestry rangers/crew we've spoken to over the years. She also carries one of the little air-horns on her belt, and we both have 1k lumen...
Back at _this post_ I mentioned our use of the 24" "Daisy Chains" for a quick and adjustable way we were attaching our hammocks to each stand/tripod. I still believe they are one of the more elegant...
Hi, nice job on the cooker stand : )
On the Hammock height? Yes they were a bit high on our 7ft DIY stands and definitely not sitting height. My wife needed a step stool !
The hammocks are (Hers...
Welcome to the Hammock Forums Speedy 54 & 153stars.

THX !
We are going to do some experimenting w/tarp setup next trip out in a couple weeks. We've been torn between doing something under a single tarp (the above was sort of like that, well the...
Hi & greetings.
Well... the reason I went w/tape is from what I read there was a bit of prep involved in EMT to get paint to actually stick long term where as a simple wipe down with white vinegar...
We are car camping so weight/stuff is not really a factor. YMMV : ) AND we have a rolling condo in our AWD van to bail if it gets crazy.
Two below One was tried a few nights last season,...
my wife and I started out as many do with a couple of ENO hammocks. Since we are now in WB gear and the ENOs were just gathering dust, I've been hanging the ENO single nest under my WB BB and using...
thought I'd chime in on our Noah Tarp usage : )

Here is a photo of my wife's WB RR...
Here is a shot of our 1" EMT TATO stand(s) setup:

What I did was string my wife's Superfly (left) on a 13'...
Hi TS, nice pix on your TATO setup. Just wanted to stop by and post a thumbs up for TATO shot of our setup this week.
Here is a shot I took this week of our setup. 100% tree-less and the...
Hi fbl, like Skysong said; "I'm glad your stand is working well !" : )
As I hinted earlier, this season would see us 100% TATO, I feel like a rebel-trader ; ) BUT, also, we are soooo gear junkies...
Thanks for being the test-hanger Skysong!
YMMV,
Thom
Hopefully someone will share their insights on this. To date all my tripod legs are one piece as we've got 7ft of space under the van's bed for storage so never had the need.
Welcome to the...
a thought on mindset/emotion ( ? ) while sleeping in gathered end verses "90 degree" (Amok).
While both are ways to sleep in the woods, they both felt emotionally different to me. While I was...
Ah, one more thing I should share on our stand set ups (either the DIY or the TATO)... we keep the RP attached to each respective tripod, they are not removed during storage. That may help explain...
Here is a close up I just took. The twine is simply waxed hemp and also a wrap of friction tape on RP under it all. There is NO movement with my weight in WB BB.

: ) Thom
Totally! There are so many options to get the job done.
Back at post #68 in this thread I shared my switch over to these little gems I found in the climbing section on amazon which work great too...
No pictures. I just wanted to get a better feel of the general sturdiness of a given tripod and the center-hang point off eyebolts. Since we are both around ~150lbs the weight was also approximate. ...
Like another stated; "Thinking I could get into hammocking 'casually' "... from ENO SN and then 12 months later to the following... and there is NOTHING casual about it ; )
...
As others have replied, 12' for blackbird and 13' for ridgerunner.
One thing I experimented with, and we will keep in the mix is that I have 6' legs on the one for my wife's RR (13' RP) and then 5'...
Many thanks!
I posted them with success. Hopefully they will find a new-happy-home.
Thom
Well I didn't feel it was appropriate to state exactly what I was trying to find a happy home for.
I have two pair of my DIY hammock stands to give away free to anyone who wishes to pick them up....
I've read the rules and have a question.
Is there a place to post items that are free-for-pick-up at OP's location/home?
I want to give some items away but they can not be shipped due to weight...
OK, breaking news... ; )
Cari and I will be utilizing our pair of TATO stands exclusively. We figure 1) They work, 2) we'll feel better using them since we've got big bucks invested in them!
...
For any who routinely incorporate those "Heavy" tarps : )
I have found utilizing a gizmo called "Tarp Buddy" to take the functionality of those tarps to a whole new level. I think they serve their...
While we will be utilizing our two WB Superfly tarps with our respective WB hammocks this season... We do use either of our two Noah 16's around camp too. The photo below is one taken last season set...
AH! I have to correct myself on the DIY leg dimensions...
In my OP I stated (and in hindsight, they are at 7') :
"9 x 10ft 3/4" EMT ( cut to 7ft by HD crew )"
I just had the new TATO stand legs...
Greetings,
While I did not measure from ground to top of set-up-tripod, I can tell you each leg is 76" of 1" EMT, add to that the 2" of TATO aluminum fitting and you get 78" which is how much space...
ah, got it.
I'm not familiar (other than reading a couple years ago) with the myan and similar wider hammocks. I understand (as you mentioned) they are typically hung between larger distances, i'm...
