I put a 12' in a cheap Coghlan's medium compression sack (15L I think) and cinch it down. Works great. I'm thinking a 16' would work but have not tried one.

I love my Blackbird XLC and I am biased but I don't believe you will go wrong with either choice. Both companies have great reputations. If you do go with Warbonnet, I would suggest the Dream-Tex...
Just soak it all in. There is much knowldedge to be gained here. Not from me, but the other guys seem to know their stuff
I did not realize that. And that my friends is why I hang out on this forum! :)
I thought I would miss the shelf too, and while it is nice to have, I find that I don't need it as much when backpacking. I just don't have as much stuff to put in the shelf. I like the new fabric...
This :thumbup1:
Car camping? No problem.
My second time in my XLC was a weekend campout and I knew it was going to get down into the teens (reached 12 degrees).
I slung three costco quilts under my hammock as...
Just tried it out and it seems to work pretty well.

Is autofit similar to "Center" under pattern?
Welcome to the family! Costa Rica sounds like an awesome place to hang.
I camp two or three weekends a month from October to April. I camp one week in July but its only because I am committed to setting a good example for a bunch of scouts (I still get a fan though!). ...
All that being said above, I am happy to chime in on any topic praising a Warbonnet hammock
I have an XLC and 3 Eldorados. Like the XLC for car camping (its a heavyweight double layer) but wish I had the new fabric. Love the Eldorado's for backpacking (single layer) and love the new...
I too wake up more in the hammock but as you state, I feel more rested. I do believe I get a better quality sleep even if I wake up more often.
Also I never sleep well the first night of any...
Its like a Mayan version of Shug!:lol::lol:
Welcome to the forum!
I hear ya! :) I have a few scouts with Chill Gorilla tarps. Not bad at all for the price.
I have several sets of Atlas straps and other than being a bit heavy I believe they are an excellent choice for suspension straps. Don't get me wrong, I love my Dutchwear Beetle Buckle Suspension...
Don't bash ENO too badly. As a scoutmaster I see ENO hammocks as a gateway for young kids to get into hammocking. They can buy the whole setup at a local outdoor store. They fit in them nicely and...
I started out using ENO straps with the ENO biners on my BB XLC.
I picked up dutch clips and the mantis that comes permanent on the continuous loop and used that with the ENO Atlas strap setup and...
Wait, I have a Pomeranian, and shes an adult! I'll go weigh her now! brb...
I was also thinking that old 1-1/2" fire hose would work and you might be able to pick some up for free at your local fire dept. Flattened out with the rubber lining removed it would be about 3" and...
You could carry two pieces of climbing grade webbing. Its tubular so you could run the tarp suspension through it if necessary.

I would guess you can get that in 2" also.
I pack my pillow with my hammock also, and, I have made that same mistake
As stated above I do not typically store the beetle buckles with the hammock. The buckle stays on the webbing and is stored separately. Even in the events where I do stuff the suspension in the...
LOL I know how you feel. I have four kids (13,15,22,27) and the wife. I am slowly building up my Warbonnet arsenal (BB XLC and two Eldorados) and just ordered the 3rd Eldorado and I have a standard...
I started out using a similar setup of 550 paracord with the bowline (only two prusics for the tarp and a taught line hitch to adjust tension). Then I moved to 750 paracord then to smaller 325...
This would be my advice as well.
Eldorado number 3 (single layer in red) on the way. Yes I have an addiction...
Welcome from another NC boy! I too rock a BB XLC more recently an Eldorado.
I use two reflective guy wires. They are only on the entry side of my tarp. I have several of the little Night Ize moonlites, I like them and did use them for a while but now I use my headlamp...
I've slept in the heavyweight double xlc for a few years now and I love it. It was the only thing I knew until I picked up one of the new Eldorado 40D single layers during the sale last spring. I...
You guys are hilarious. Having to ask the wife to go camping, that is so crazy. If I ever had... Ooops, gotta go, wife just got home!:lol::lol:
Same setup here.
I use the same setup. I have replaced three of my tarp setups with the Flyz used in this way. By far my preferred setup at the moment.
I too like the one piece mesh sleeve.
I'm getting to where I don't tie out my shelf side. The head side I hook onto my thunderfly tarp corner.
Got mine yesterday also. As suspected my daughter hasn't given it back yet! The whole idea of her painting printed on a pillow is a big deal to her I think. Its hard to tell with a 13 year old but...
After reading your post again. Raven Rock might be a good choice if you are looking North.
Raven Rock State Park is great. Your also not to far from Uwharri.
I live in Bladen County and Jones Lake (In Bladen Lakes State Forest) wouldn't be a bad choice.
There is a place called Harmony...
I almost put this up the other day lol

This was my experience also. I purchased one of their convertible sleeping bag/top quilt/underquilts. Its not my Wookie or my EE quality but it still gets used by my son from time to time. ...
It will be hard to get me to turn away from my Wookie underquilt...
I was the other winner and I agree totally with your quote above. Thanks Dutch!
Title of thread "Change suspension length or raise tree connection?"
Answer to thread title "Both"
Put me in for bundle #3 please
That's one of the nicest ones so far to me.
We were getting ready to tell you all the bad things about owning a Wookie. Oh well, to late now...
6 foot tall here and don't remember any cold spots and I do sleep in the 4 position quite often. I'm not going to say I've never had cold spots but If I have its never been bad enough to remember...
I'm a side sleeper and I love my 20 degree Wookie. I have an XLC and it like it was made for it :lol::lol:
It takes about a minute to deploy (literally), and follows the contours of the...
Hilarious!
