How long was your piece of rope before splicing?
I'd suggest looking at a Single-Line System (SLS). Do a search of the forum.....basically you run a strong line between the trees and pull it very very tight. Then you attach your hammock to that...
I'll take it if Gustavus falls through.
I was prepared to dislike it from the title and the description. However, after looking at the pic, I find it to be very elegant. Bravo!
I called ahead. They were a bit amused, but told me that I could have any that I cut out myself. Utility scissors are your friend.
I had a similar positive experience at the junkyard...they were happy to oblige for free. I had to cut out my own airbags, but they seem to fit the bill. Got some steering wheel, some passenger, and...
Hmmm....my Explorer UL fits under my DIY Winter Dream by about the same margin - 3 inches at either end. However, that's always been more than enough for protection from whatever nature has thrown...
I like the carbon fiber arrow cutoffs, and the various outdoor places will typically give you a handful for free.
My favorite is always my .30-06 shell casings....so smooth and manly.
I should mention, after reading the post by the Grappler, that I then larks head my suspension behind the knot. The knot takes the load, and the only thing it can do is tighten under pressure.
After I gather the end of the hammock in whatever folded fashion I desire, I simply tie the end in a single overhand knot. Simple, elegant, strong, safe. No whipping, no sewing.
Make one out of waterproof fabric and it can also be a pack cover!
There once was a person from Limerick.....
Hello from Knoxville! C'mon over some time and we'll talk hammocks and do some gear testing. I've got several hammocks and tarps you can try.
does the minibull come with the pot in the picture?
I have become a fan of just tying the end of the hammock into a single overhand knot, and looping a larks head of the suspension behind the knot. Easy to do, and provides quite a strong mechanical...
slide more to the foot area of the hammock.....it sounds like you're up too high. I've got the Explorer UL, and I've never had that problem. However, I always slide down so my head is below the...
That's hilarious!

Light. Cheap. Durable.
Pick two......
:-)
If anybody is interested, there is a 30-mile section of the Cumberland Trail that extends from Cove Lake to Frozen Head. I'd be interested in hitting that this summer, and maybe having a...
I definitely want a get-together in the summer when it's warm.
Two words: Sockel.
Like stated earlier, Post 17 of the linked thread above.
I've fallen in love with this concept....made two and thoroughly enjoyed them. Combined with a toboggan, it's hard...
It's about the same distance for me. The old ropes course is close to the little fishing dock on the pond, if that makes sense. On the other side of the paved walking trail opposite the Haw Ridge...
I didn't intend to hijack this thread. I apologize.
Please direct any and all comments about a Knoxville-area hang to this thread: ...
Frozen Head appears to be the crowd favorite.
If there is interest, we could consider a group hike from Cove Lake to Frozen Head, with a night or two of handing at Frozen Head afterwards to...
Haw Ridge is on TVA Undeveloped Recreation Property, but is administered by Oak Ridge and has it's own rules, which include no camping. However, directly across the paved path is the old ropes...
And the Haw Ridge suggestion was just to get things going. I'm not emotionally wedded to the idea.....
I mean the old ropes course, which is TVA Undeveloped Recreation property and is in pretty good shape with good hanging trees. Just off the paved Haw Ridge trail.
They DO allow camping! It's clearly spelled out in the TVA publications about the Undeveloped Recreation Areas, and I have personally talked to a representative from TVA who confirmed that it is...
If I'm duplicating an existing idea, please let me know.
Let's plan a Knoxville-area hangout this year! Someplace accessible to everybody, for the purposes of introductions, gear-testing, gear...
All of us Knoxville-area folk should plan an easy get-together hang this year. Someplace everybody can access, such as the TVA Undeveloped Recreation area adjacent to Haw Ridge? Or any other...
I don't whip my hammocks....I'm not into that.
What I do is tie the very ends of the fabric in an overhand knot. Simple, effective, and load-bearing.
Yep! Thanks!
Hello from Knoxville!
Maybe a ballpark amount?
How much are we supposed to pay?
Ground sleep always left me aching and sore the next morning, and I would toss and turn all night either fighting gravity or the one acorn or rock or root I missed in my sweep for my tent site. I am...
That sounds good to me! I'll be out for the summer so it should be doable for me and my boys.....
Wow....they really did the right thing. Sometimes you've got to take a loss on a sale to satisfy a customer and protect your reputation. Especially if your advertising is a little unclear.
Well, first of all.....most people will buy a "quarter-pound" burger and not worry that the weight is for an uncooked patty.
Secondly, I would recommend reaching out to the seller. Most Amazon...
Hello, there! I'm in Clinton! Let me know if you're interested....I'd be happy to show you my setups and such!
You know, I've always thought it would be nice to have a fixed loop at either end of the bury to assist in adjusting the whoopie sling. I wonder if we couldn't make our whoopies with two fixed loops...
It's not just negative feedback, but I want to be able to leave positive feedback for people from whom I've bought.
I agree, and I'm familiar with that search. This would just add a very valid data point to the search.
a Sticky attached to each Sale/Trade thread?
Perhaps.
I'm just looking for a way for a member to be able to do a little research on past transactions for another member before deciding to...
I'm not sure....what do you mean by that?
Count us out.....sigh.
I suggest that the moderators leave the Sale/Trade threads open until the buyer receives the item and has a chance to leave feedback. I don't have an axe to grind on any of my purchases, but the...
I second the Sockel. I used this thing last weekend and was VERY pleased with it. No condensation issues, keeps my ears and nose and mouth warm, and the snout is adjustable to the temperature.
...
Midshipman's Hitch, regular and slipped. Great adjustable knot for rainfly suspension.
I'll take it. WBBB
