I have one of these stick roller things. I like it but it's too heavy for me to consider hiking with. What about a chopped down section of a foam roller? Lighter and could be used to sit on?

Nice. Thanks. Can you post some pictures and weight the components?

I voted sock because that's just what I take more often. But I have used my space blanket to protect my UQ from rain splash. And I always have a space blanket so I guess I always have something I can...
Welcome to the forums.
For gear checkout Relevate designs. What I use:

I use shock cord and a cord lock toggle. Pull shock cord through toggle to tighten. Loosen toggle to enter/exit.

Thank you Liz once again for putting this together. It was great to see everyone again and to meet new people and folks that I've only known online before this hang. Sorry we have to leave early but...
I will be there Friday but will have to leave Saturday afternoon/evening if I bring Louise. She has to work on Sunday. Hopefully I will at least get to see the Saturday arrivals. Oh, I may drag my...
I will be there with the dog for sure. Not sure if Louise will make it since she has to work on Sunday. Looking forward to seeing everyone again.
S
Welcome. You make really nice hammocks.

One thing about winter camping that everyone should do the first time out is stay much closer to your car. My first time I think I was not more than an hour away on a well used snow packed trail....
Usually in winter I always bring a dry set of base layers. I never wear them while hiking or snowshoeing. I sweat way too much. I just assume that I will be wet from perspiration until I get to camp....
This hike in Maui. Do it every time I go there:

Plenty of things to hang from too.

I dream of hanging in Hawaii. Please post some pictures!

When you start here you have a lot of questions. You engage in dialogue with people answering your questions.
Overtime you have less questions and more experience. You share your experience with...
Welcome from Northern California! Good to see you here. Hope to see you on the trail and at the next group hang.
All the best,
S
From the Bay Area Nor Cal. Hope you can make it to a group hang. Good to see you posting.
All the best,
S
I have both. the AHE's are currently lighter. Can't wait for Dutch's Ti version of the buckle.
S
I love the breakfast nook! I especially like seeing how much fun your are having. That's what it's about isn't it? Keep the vids coming please!
S
Freak accident. There is no way to have foreseen this. My thoughts, prayers and heart go out to the boy, his uncle and family.
S
Yes a few us have them. There was a group buy last year. Good product and very cleaver engineering. I got the extra long pegs and use mine at the beach.
S
My HG 0* incubator weighs in at 21.75ozs (custom). I'm about your height. I believe the length is 65" and fit me perfectly.
S
Backcountry- I usual only bring a handline. Trout don't get very big in the alpine lakes I fish. I have been known to take a packraft if I know I will be spending a lot time on the water.
S
The first pic is mine. While it appears that the hammocks (WBBB & BMBH) are side by side they are actually hung in a tight triangle of trees. My son and I were about two feet apart sharing a large...
3 feet loop of Amsteel (used this many times)
15 feet of Lash It
20 feet of Bankline

Good to see you back. Missed you. Good luck with the neck. I know that you'll heal up fine. How's the Bumble?
S
Welcome. Nice to have you posting. My wife does what you did. She still lurks here but maybe one day she'll get her own account.
S
Sweet! Looks like a nice job to me.
Enjoy!
S
I have a few TQ from both. Can't go wrong with either. Here is what might sway you. For hammock only, I would go Hammock Gear. If you go to Ground Much I would go EE. Both work well in a hammock but...
Hmmm...I'd get a 30 degree Burrow. I have a 20, 30 and 40 degree Burrow. Never use the 40 anymore. 30 gets the most use where I hang.
S
Very nice. Love the pictures. Thanks for sharing!

Form Northern California ;) Bay Area to more precise.
I hike/hang with a dog and I love Hillebergs. I have green Soulo. Only use it in the Winter though when I can pull it on a sled.
...
Thanks Liz. Louise and I would love to attend, again. We'll bring the dog too.
Thanks for putting this together.
S.
I used to hang in some of the woods along Skyline blvd in the Chabot/Redwood Regional Park when I lived in the East bay. If I were still there, I would check out Mt. Diablo.
S
I'll have to give that a try. Thanks for that one!

As mentioned Point Reyes, lots of state parks. These will require reservations in advance. This time of year though that shouldn't be too hard. Also, I might suggest Henry Coe. They have a back...
Welcome from the North Bay. This place is great and so are the people here. Enjoy and looking forward to meeting you on the trail.
S
Yes Superfly size. Lots of folks here like the 12 foot tarps but where I hang sometimes the trees are not far enough apart to string up a 12 footer.
S
I'm short but will only buy 11 foot hammocks. So much more comfortable. You will need a bigger tarp but not a 12 footer.
S
It what I use on my larger tarps like the Superfly. Dutch biners and lash-it prussics. I wrap them about 4 or 5 times and they hold.
S
Hammocks involve a certain amount of fiddle factor. Hangle, ridgeline length, tree height, distances, tarp choices, straps, slings, knots, devices, insulation....on and on. If you are not one for...
For hammock and ground Tim makes a really nice setup. Any quilt will work but EE had got the strap to pad thing dialed.
S
And Merry Christmas!
Hoping that this is a great year for you.
All the best,

Prayers and healing thoughts sent. Please take care of yourself. Let us know if there is anything we can do to help you.
S.
That is a thing of beauty.
S
See you tomorrow nite!
S
Hey, Those hammocks look familiar :) they are hung from three trees with no spreader bars separating them.
S
Please come out to join Kapang! and me out on the Northern California cost for the NorCal Holiday Hang. We'll be hanging at Point Reyes National Seashore, Sky Camp. Here are the details:
Friday,...
I actually find it easier to organize in the winter. I plan my trips where I can pull my sled. On my sled is a big duffle bag with my gear in different, easily identifiable stuff sacks. The duffle is...
If it's your winter tarp get it with doors. You'll be glad you did. Oh and get a wide tarp too.
