Thanks for the tips guys. I like that knee pillow idea. In a tent, I need a similar pillow under my knees to take strain off of my lower back.
So if that works, I won't be changing my set up too...
Has anyone experienced this? I've done a few searches and came up nothing.
The last several times I've slept in my hammock (indoors/outdoors, 1.0 / 1.6 weight, and both left/right lay) I wake up...
It's interesting to see the body weights vary so much regarding comfort in the 1.0. I recently got a Chameleon in the 1.6 as a step up from the 1.0.
I'm only 140-145 lbs but had issues with...
This all makes me feel better to hear. I'm pretty short, 5'4'', and don't lay very diagonally at all. I sometimes try to initially get as diagonal as possible but end up somewhere in the middle,...

Hey everyone!! Thank you so much for the compassion and well wishes!!
I didn't necessarily mean I was done hanging...just that my lack of gear will prevent it for a while. HOWEVER, I am still a...
I just had a hammock camper's (or any camper's for that matter) worst fear realized...
I was hanging at a campground off of the Gunflint Trail last night and the high winds took out two trees...
I've been using a pack hanger from Dutch fro quite a while, mostly just to keep my bag off the ground.
I'm not sure how hanging the pack prevents critters from getting in it. The ones mentioned;...
I don't think mine is nearly as shady or questionable as the ones mentioned here but I have only stealth camped once. A couple months ago, I set up camp somewhere between Andy Creek Campsite and...
In my experience, they are fairly timid creatures. Sort of cat-like. I don't think they really want to spray, it's a defense mechanism.
That said, don't go trying to pick one up because they are...
What item is this exactly? When I search for "down blankets" on the Costco site, I get only two blankets. One at $59.99 and one at $69.99.
That does make sense... ;-) Thanks!
I would probably only use the head end tie-out too. I'll see how often. During my quick test run, I felt I only needed it on my head end to keep the bugnet away from my face. I have a week-long...
This is one thing I immediately saw I would have to change... I have typically entered from the head end. No idea why, just a habit.
I just received a Dutchware Chameleon a few days ago; my first hammock with side pull-outs. (Also apparently the last one in stock for a while...sorry all.)
First of all, amazing hammock! So...
Amen!!
My other passions are playing drums (I'm in two bands) and cycling. I have 2 drum kits, half a dozen snare drums, about 30 cymbals, and 3 bikes. It's a good thing we don't have kids...
I have Dutch Whoopie Hook suspension with straps. I originally had the 5' straps but found myself wrapping excess strap around most of the trees I encountered, especially on the SHT.
The trees...
I keep my hammock in a double-sided stuff sack. I have a small zip tie cinched down on the drawstring of my head end of the bag.
I haven't got around to buying different colored CLs yet...
I carried the Kelty Noah 12 for a week on the SHT. No, it isn't THAT heavy, however, I didn't realize how heavy it was until I got my Superfly.
That said, the Noah does fit quite well into a set...
Funny you mention that. I used to live there. I lived in Bellevue for a few years. Stuck in Nebraska now...
Most of the rain I experience when camping I find myself comparing to the constant...
I've (fortunately) never had to mend a hole in mesh. I wonder if a small piece of tenacious tape might be a quicker fix. You would probably have to use a piece on both sides though.
This is all I could think of until I saw the other points.
I see how it could be advantageous in some situations to have the pack there with you under the tarp. I've been using a Big...
I've seen this mentioned several times and wonder what the need really is. Is it just a comfort item to have under the tarp? I have yet to go hammocking and wished I had a sheet under my hammock. ...
Good call.
I look a little late to be of much influence. I guess I will just reinforce your decision. I picked up a WB Superfly a couple months ago and couldn't be happier. I haven't used it...
I'm considering adding to the hammock arsenal. I'm thinking perhaps something with an integrated bugnet like the WB Blackbird or maybe the new Dutch Chameleon.
My question is how do you guys do the...
Welcome to the forum. I consider myself a part-time Minnesotan...my wife is from Edina and we spend quite a bit of time up there from Nebraska. Most of the camping I have done the past few years was...
Just wondering... Are you sure it's the hammock? Are you having the pain when you're backpacking? If so, part of the issue might be from hiking; tight calves, arches. Plantar fasciitis perhaps? ...
Dang... Am I going to have to place yet another order? Those buckles look sweet.
Slight thread hijack here... Hey Dutch, I was just wondering how many folks place multiple orders with you within...
My wife and I used to live in Seattle (Bellevue actually). We went on a couple quick trips to Cle Elum area. Anywhere north or south of there would be nice. Salmon Le Sac was one of my favorites. ...
Good call.
I just had to jump in here to assure you that you are making the right decision...and give a shout out to Dutch. I ordered my hammock from him a year or so ago and even talked to him...
Hehe... That's pretty much what I was doing before I started this thread. It's the main reason I posted the question. If this thread has made your life a living hell lately, I apologize. ;-)
Well well well... The one and only Shug! Thanks for chiming in, sir. 'Tis a pleasure...
I love your videos; they have helped quite a bit with the learning curve on this hammock business. Is...
I think a Superfly is what I have settled on. I just can't justify the CF tarp right now. The best bang for my buck seems to be the Superfly. I was just worried about the 11' length being too...
What section were you thinking of? I just did 5 days on the trail a couple weeks ago. I hiked from Duluth to Two Harbors; the Martin Road trailhead to the County Road 301 trailhead. This required...
I got into it little by little. I bought a hammock first, hung in it quite a few times in the back yard (some of the best naps ever...), eventually bought a Kelty Noah tarp and then took the gear...
This.
I just prefer that extra space that additional foot allows you. I usually hang my backpack off of the hammock suspension and I like having a little more space to mess around with there. ...
Yeah, that's what I was wondering too. Further complicating my decision... I'm basing the length off of folding in the ends (doors?) of the Kelty tarp. I would like a bit more ridgeline length for...
Wow... That's an impressive amount of links. It seems I have some more homework to do. Thanks.
Yes, that's what I was comparing it to. My apologies if it's much lighter than it seemed at first. Do you guys have any experience with this tarp? How much does it weigh? Or should I just give SLD...
