I'm sure the rope itself has been tested, but has anyone ever piled a bunch of weight onto a continuous loop to see how much they can hold? My shop has certified test weights, and while we're not really set up to test rope to failure, I could certainly try to lift a 1,000lb cast iron test weight and see what happens.
Better get a bigger weight. Properly tested, it should break at ~1.6 to 1.9 times single rope strength.
