Hi all,
Just thought I'd post a tentative (hammockative?) schedule for 2019. As always, there's an open invite to anyone wanting to attend.
- Spring: Depending on ice out, first (new moon) or second weekend (waxing moon) of May - Chicamoula. Why? Trout and the safety of paddling flat, albeit frigid water.
- Summer: Late July/early August - French River. Summer water temps for any swift water areas, reduced bugs.
- Summer: Sometime - Nogonash Lake. Backcountry bushwack to an allegedly great bass/pike lake.
- Early Fall: End of September - Killarney. If you've never paddled Killarney, you really should. A simple trip to OSA or Norway lake with maybe a day hike up to Silver peak.
- Late Fall: Mid-October - Algonquin in time for the colours because, well, you know..... Easy paddle in.
I'll be posting a new thread for each outing.
See you out there!

French River Hang - Mid-Late Aug 2019
Quest for the Bay (2nd Try)
Back in 2018, we were forced by forest fires to postpone our much anticipated French River/Georgian Bay trip. Hopefully this year, we'll have better luck.
I've copied some resources from last year's thread to get the planning going. There are a few routes starting at Hartley Bay Marina, but there are countless ways to get out to the Bay. A couple of us are considering extending the hang (before or after) to spend a week paddling the area. Note: As we discovered, we should also have a back-up plan.

Algonquin Fall Paddle
October 4-6, 2019.
Anyone interested a weekend getaway to take in some fall colours? I was thinking about an easy paddle in and a big pot of soup, something like Pen, Parkside Bay, Ragged or even Ralph Bice. It's Algonquin, almost anywhere will be wonderful, so we can take what's available.
October 18-20th will almost assuredly be past the peak colours in the maples, although the tamaracks will be coming into their own.

Just like last year, a bunch of us are going to head over to Valens for an overnighter after the 3rd Annual Winter Camping Symposium held that Saturday afternoon, November 23rd at the University of Waterloo.
Hopefully we'll get our traditional site 134 or somewhere thereabouts and enjoy a hot fire, good food and maybe even a bit of gear swapping. For all those regulars, see we'll all there.
For all of those new folks interested in coming by to enjoy some good times, everyone's welcome, even if it's just for dinner.See you there!

EGL New Years at Valens 2020
https://www.hammockforums.net/galler...0061-32017.jpg
Seasons greetings all!
I just wanted to invite one and all to our annual EGL New Year's "Gearing Up for Winter" hang.
Hopefully we'll be able to do a repeat of the porkapalooza, expanding it slightly to include a scrumptious taco-fest!
Let's hope for some good sub-zero weather and knee deep snow.
Happy and safe holidays to you and yours and we'll see you in the new year.
Chard

EGL Winter Backcountry - Feb 2020
Where: Last year we had a hum-dinger of a time cold hanging just off of the Sunday Lake Dogsledding Trail in Algonquin Park, but we were fortunate not to be post-holing along their trail. I'm perfectly happy returning to more familiar areas (Niger, Algonquin, Kawartha Highlands) or trying to find some new, scenic and preferably Crown spots. I'm open to suggestions. Depending on where we're going, carpooling might be a sensible option as parking can be tight in places.
When: Last year we went around the second weekend of February and that worked out pretty well. I'm game to throw down the proposition that we make it easy on everyone and say that going forward, the second weekends of January and February get penciled in as EGL Valens and Backcountry weekends respectively. Even I can remember that! That makes it Feb 7th-9th this year. We can shift it back a week and go on the Family Day weekend, but that's a good time to spend with, well, family.

EGL 2021 New Years Hang
Hey folks,
Since so many of us are in a Covid Control or Lockdown (https://covid-19.ontario.ca/zones-and-restrictions), I'm going to suggest that we cancel, or at least postpone, our always amazing "official" EGL New Years Hang on the basis of public health concerns.
I'm thinking back to last year's New Years Hang and the great time we had all huddled shoulder to shoulder around the fire shooting the sh!t. Don't ask me why, but I really do look forward to seeing all of your ugly mugs each year. Fast forward 11 months and the idea of doing that again under the shadow of "The Bug" gives me the willies!
So seasons greetings to you all. If you decide to gather with friends and family, please do so safely and responsibly. We might be in the home stretch of this unfortunate business, but it would be a shame to stumble in sight of the finish line.
Happy Holidays
Chard
