Connecticut River Paddler Trail (Upper Valley) 2 Nights

Long-time lurker, first-time poster.

I took my almost 75yo dad on a three day, two night trip down the CT River by canoe. The trail is dotted with various campsites often maintained by volunteer organizations and private landowners.

All the sites we saw on the stretch we paddled (East Ryegate down to north of Hanover, NH) had tons of options for hanging, and my dad enjoyed his first nights hammock camping after so many years on the ground.

Thanks for all the expertise folks have shared here! Pic of my Hammock Gear bugnet hammock and the OneWind I picked up for dad. 20°F full under quilt for him, and 40° 3/4 under quilt for me, both Hammock Gear. Kept us warm down to 38 overnight!

River trips in canoes are a great way to get out for a few days. I have to say though, if I were to take such a trip with any of my 40-ish "kids" and/or their spouses, it would be me taking them, not the other way around! ;)

Travtufts - Thanks for sharing. I'm still working to get my dad off the ground and into a hammock. You know what they say about old dogs and new tricks... Great use of the paddles for porch mode!

My 77 year old mom finally got into hammock camping. She can't get up off the ground once she's there so she was missing out on the river camping trips her kayak group was doing.
Not any more!

Last year I timed my visit w/ the timing of Hang Con. Her first nights above ground were there and she's hooked. She even won a 20° TQ at the raffle . . . I won a pack meal. [emoji849]

Now she's added a second hammock, a stand, and just got a new winter tarp from Dutch. I don't think I'm going to be able to keep up. [emoji38]
