Two years of doodling ideas has finally come to life! I am editing a super silly video to show off this system being used for its intended purpose :woot: but I couldn't wait to show you guys the finished product so here is a sneak peak. The video is quite short (87 seconds!) and shows a few quick shots of the build and the final outcome:
Weight: 10.3 ounces (remember this weight includes both the tarp AND bug netting) Price: $35.55 Link to the full tutorial and pictures:TREEfool website
Any concerns about water pooling can be dismissed because the tarp will easily convert to an A-Frame roof.
I like the idea - it's one that I've seen kicked around before but never quite like this. My only concern is how narrow it seems.

Oops, and I forgot to say that I welcome all feedback good or bad.

The foot end is much narrower than the head. I will have to test it again when I get home but i believe I can sit up in it and fully stretch my elbows out on both sides. I am unsure how this compares to a tarp ?

Looks awesome.
I am assuming that is sil-nylon and no-seeum???
I like the idea. b/c you don't have to bring any tent stakes; you are fully enclosed; deploy when needed; bugnet/tarp all-in-one (lightweight)........
Questions:
Does it require a ridgeline?
What are the dimensions??
How good do you think it will be in keeping the bugs out? Gnats? Mosquitoes?

Very inventive nicely done Refreshing.
This is a custom sock for your custom 3 point hammock where you don't lay diaginal, correct?

You are correct, silnylon and noseeum. And you are double correct because it deploys super fast and there is no need for extra stakes, guylines, etc. In fact I store it in the stuff sack together with the hammy, pull it out, tie three corners, done.
-No ridgeline required. However I do snug up each corner of the tarp to each corner of the hammock
-Dimensions are hard to attain since it is a tube. Total circumfrance is 100 inches. 60 of that is silnylon. So I have the option to make it tall and skinny or short and wide.
-My only concern for mosquitoes are the three small holes where my hammock webbing exits the tarp. I will worry about that in the summer but i doubt it will be a problem.

Thanks and correct. My bridge hammock is indeed a flat/straight lay.

Nice.
My only concern would be the rain running down and wicking thru the net onto the UQ.?? your a pad guy so it may not be an issue.
Test it and see.
If it is an issue, a flap of fabric may act as a drip edge around the seam/hem?

Great bit of innovation and very well made, excellent work.
My only question is how well does the pad sit as it tapers in width towards to foot end?

Yes, if I used an underquilt I think it would be a great idea to extend the edge of the tarp to keep rain from wicking to the netting but the net doesnt touch the hammock when I use a pad so I am not going to worry about it unless I become a UQ guy.

Thank you. Both my pad and hammock taper towards the feet so they work perfect together.

I've been waiting to see how u did this project. Looks nice and definitely custom to your setup. Now I'll be waiting to see a review of how it performs.
