MacCat Tarps by OES
Does anyone own a MacCat tarp by OES? Feedback??
They look great, and i am considering their Deluxe or Ultra versions.
Also, can anyone explain the difference between the SilNylon and the SilPro materials they use? Any experience between the two?
Thanks!

Definitely check out the negative feedback - never seen a vendor with so much - ever.

I got an OES Deluxe off the For Sale forum. It seems like a good tarp, but I don't see anything that would make it superior to other tarps on the market. I actually prefer my Warbonnet tarps for the better weight-coverage-ratio. Given the bad feedback on OES with regards to their customer service and communication, I would not order with them directly. If you really want to stick with OES, pick a tarp that is in stock and don't have them seam-seal it. That will probably increase your chances that you get your tarp within a reasonable time frame and won't have complaints.

I bought a Deluxe years ago. Great tarp. Then lots of comments about customer service in the OES forum going on for quite a while. My sense he he's great at making tarps, not so good at running a business. Brian started OES as a very young man, and on the forums, we've watched him in college and beyond. Something not right, but what it is who knows?

I finally got mine, but only after I changed my order to a free camo upgrade which he already had in stock. I'm not crazy into camo but it was for my son and he didn't care what color it was.

STAY AWAY FROM OES!!!! (unless you buy it second hand. I hear makes good stuff, just don't order directly from him.)

I really like mine, the workmanship is topnotch, but I have no experience with the customer service - I bought mine second hand.

I have the deluxe and love it. I ordered directly from him and got it quickly. Your mileage may vary.

I got an OES MacCat Deluxe with mods from Brian some years ago. Customer service was excellent (I had questions about mods and he responded wonderfully as other vendors here have for me in other cases) and it is my "go to" rainfly.
I have been sad to see some of the invidious attacks against OES in the last couple of years. ESPECIALLY when many jump on others offering similar critiques of other vendors.
In my opinion, it's too much like the cliques of middle school girls (apologies to middle school girls). If you're in one of the popular cliques, no matter what you do, you're defended. And if you're not one of the popular "in" girls, you're treated with disdain. It's pitiful actually. If vendor critique is cool on HF, it should be cool for all. In my opinion, the situation is very different from that. In one case, the vendor gets bashed. In other cases, the customers get bashed and we're told HF is not the place for complaints (yet plainly complaints are allowed ... so long as against someone not in the current right clique).
I'm not saying this or that vendor is good or bad. I'm saying the quite obvious double standard is not good.
