I'd like to hear from those that have used the heavier 1.8 Nylon Taffeta materials for their overcover. Pros and Cons you've noticed.
Have you found it to be too heavy, overkill for that application?
Any problems stuffing into its storage sack at the hammock end?
My pack weight consciousness is kicking in and I'm having a hard time justifying using it for my Dangerbirds overcover just because I can get it in an array of colors.

I have two Dangerbirds. One has a 1.1 overcover and the other an M50 overcover. Both work great. If I put on my weight weenie hat, I would say, yes, using 1.8 ounce material for the cover is overkill when using 1.1 works great. However, the difference in weight between the 1.1 and 1.8 overcovers is probably 2 ounces or less. So, if your fashionista side needs a cooler color than black or green, that 2 ounces might be worth it to you.

If hammock weight is an issue you might consider a Gnome with a 1.1 nylon winter cover and have Randy make you a bug net for your snipe when you need bug protection.Quote:

The 1.8oz overcover does indeed stuff into the peak bag ok.
I've made a couple overcovers even out of the 2.7oz Marpat where pattern was more important than weight. For these, we oversized the cover end peak bag a smidge so everything fits well.
I see very minor cons and no pros...
I cant imagine going with a heavy fabric just to make it match my eyes or whatever... But that is me,I hate shopping for clothing too...
I have no trouble not choosing tbe lightest option if there are other considerations, but some as minor as using one decent color instead of another would never be worth increasing the weight, reguardless of how much it actually is.
But I bet the over cover is only a square yard or two? The difference in weight probably ends up being crazy small for most people so do what makes you happy and dont think too hard :p
I decided to go with the slightly lighter 1.1 black ripstop for the overcover. Most of the time, its use will only be during the night, so its looks is mute. I opted to save some weight. I keep having to remind myself, even tho it seems insignificant, it all adds up.
