Sad News @ Dream Hammock
I was unable find any mention of this on the forums. And after speaking with Randy (aka Papa Smurf) at Dream Hammock, he gave me the permission to share with you all. Some of you may already be aware, but Deanna Smith- or more commonly known around here as "Mama Smurf," passed away back in October 2021. She was not only Randy's life partner for over 42 years, but was also a co-owner in their business. For all of us Dream Hammock owners, Deanna's fingerprints are- without a doubt, present on all of our gear. But more importantly, behind their amazing hammocks was a truly wonderful lady- who seemed to care more about the people she served than the products she made. I know I thoroughly enjoyed all of my communications with her over the years.
My prayers go out to Randy and the rest of the Dream Hammock family. Deanna will be sorely missed by us humble hammock hangers.

Sad News @ Dream Hammock
Thank you for sharing this. Very sad. Although I never had the opportunity to meet her or Papa Smurf, I know through this forum and other media that they are great people. I bought one of their custom made hammocks a few years ago and loved it immediately for its comfort and style. Now I will cherish it for additional reasons. My condolences to the Smith family.

Condolences to Mr. Smith and his family. I never have met Mr. or Mrs. Smith in person, but have purchased a couple of hammocks and accessories over the years. At each transaction, they were always great to work with.

Wow, sad news indeed. I had a chat with them at one of the Texas hangs some years ago as we walked to the chow line one evening. They seemed like a happy couple & totally into being part of the hammock community as well as manufacturing their products.
Condolences to the family & RIP Deanna.

Thanks for sharing this unfortunate news. I own/owned a couple of DH hammocks. My Sparrow has become my winter "couch" for watching videos. Superbly made hammocks and I had the good fortune to work/communicate with both Papa and Mama Smurf during the purchase process. As a widower, I share understanding what a huge loss it is when your life partner journeys onward before you do.
