Clark Jungle Hammock
Hello,
I used my Clark Jungle Hammock NX-250 for the first time in August. If was the best sleep I've ever had backpacking (30-years). However, I sleep great for the first 5 hours and they struggled with the pad sliding all over the place and getting cold on the sides. When I returned, I purchase the Z-liners UQ from Clark Jungle for my next trip.
Question, if I have a UQ do I need to bring a pad? Will the UQ keep me warm enough having the pad? If I still need a pad, can someone recommend a light weight pad I could bring.
Thank you

You should be fine without a pad if you're using an underquilt. You can combine the two to add extra protection against cold air but the rating for the underquilt should be an accurate estimate of a comfortable temperature range. Most people would argue that the given ratings are conservative for certain makers, not sure if Clark's UQ is any different in that respect.

Excellent. Thank you for the feedback. It usually get's down to around 50 degrees at the coldest.

I use the same setup. Z liner and Nx250. No extra pad needed for the temps you indicated. I sleep with a polar fleece blanket down into the 40s with no problem. You can regulate the inside temp easily by unzipping the weather cover a few inches or a foot. I find it easy to do and very comfy warm.

Thank you. I really don't want to carrying a pad if I don't need one. Trying to cut weight.

I know this is a really old post but... I use an underpad through the summer and graduate to UQ without the underpad to the fall. Winter in Ontario means I sometimes us both like if it's something like minus 15 C or 0 F. I'm usually not far off the grid when it's that cold...

UQ Only
I use a winter weight UQ by itself and have never had a problem on the coldest Ontario nights.
