    My first DIY Hammock!

    Hi all,
After some time here, I finally made my first DIY hammock! I also made some DIY tree huggers from the Mule Tape that I bought from John Sawyer.
And I also used my DIY Whoopie Slings.
I bought the rip stop nylon at JoAnn's Fabrics. It is Sport Rip Stop Nylon. I'm not sure what the weight is, but since it held ma, at 335#, it's probably hefty!
I am going to take this hammock, and my ENO Double Nest (as a backup), camping with the Boy Scouts next weekend 10/15-17, at Pine Grove Furnace.
I may try to make a tarp before then, if I don't, I'll take a cheap Wal Mart tarp with me.
Any way here are the pics.

Looking mighty comfy in your new hammock. I used the same material for mine, its been serving me well. Did you sew a channel to run your whoopies through the end? It looks like a neat and clean attachment.

Yes, I sewed a channel at the end, I had looked at my ENO DN, and just copied that.
It looks great from a distance.
When you inspect closer, you can see I am learning how to "make gear".
I have most of the stitches close to straight.

Straight stitches are for factory made production line gear. I've made quite a few things now, and I don't think any seam is "straight" for more than a foot or two. And I use a treadle operated machine made in 1901. As long as the stitches hold, you're good. If someone is picky enough to complain they have other issues.
(stuff sacks, a diy SPE, two hammocks, and other stuff here so far)
Its a warning though. Now you'll look at "new" gear and think, "Hmm. thats nice, but if it had another little pocket...uhh.. "here". And the downward spiral begins.
    Looks great, Keep going.

Inspiring for sure! I need a net-less hammock, straight seams be damned. What's the weight of that toggle bolt ?

I am a big guy too, 300# and i find that to get a good flat lay i end up like you at a pretty hard diagonal with my feet hanging over the edge or pushing against my bug net. When my friends who are normal sized lay in it they tend to lay on much less diagonal to be comfortable. I assume this is due to materials stretching but does anyone else have suggestions on why this is and what to do about it. I want my feet inside and not pressed to the edge. I assume a double layer of the 1.7 would stretch a lot less than the single but i have a double 1.5 and still find myself angled way off compared to others and pics i've seen on here. my experience is in a 10'x5' with bug net.
