Moved from the West Coast all the way to Georgia

I've always been jealous of seeing these incredible outings (I'm looking at you Hang Con and Fall Sprawl ) and now I have the chance to drive there myself. I see that PSH, TSH, and Florida Hangers already have some coming up in the next few months, BUT I just sold my camping hammock, so I'll have to wait until my next one comes in before I start hanging again.

For those of you in Georgia (and nearby states), should I invest into an Overcover? I haven't done any winter camping before and I'm unaware of how snowy it gets in this region. Plus how thick are the trees here on average? I'm looking at 5-foot huggers right now, but wanted to see if I can get away with 4 feet.

Depending on where you are in GA it does't snow much to none at all. The longer the better so you aren't stuck when out camping due to an equipment shortage. Welcome to the region.

Hello and welcome to the forums from Marietta GA.

If the camping you're planning on doing is mostly going to be in GA, then I don't think you'll need to worry about an overcover as long as you have good insulation.

As far as huggers, I don't use them but most of the trees are second-growth if that helps.

    Happy hanging!

Welcome to Georgia. I don't think the over cover is necessary. Only way I'd bother with one would be if I already had bought all the other doodads available and just wanted something else to try. There are a few times and places you might use it, but mostly it's just not that cold here.

Four foot huggers will limit you at times. I had to pass up a spot last night because of that. I make them work and so can you, but five footers give you more options.

Thanks, everyone. For now, I will be travelling around Northern GA before I cross the borders. I will go with 5-foot huggers with 6-foot whoopies for the time being until I find/buy a pair of Dutch Clips to extend my huggers.

Welcome to Ga from the Lawrenceville area. What area are you now calling home? There are tons of places to explore in North Ga, into Tn, and both of the Carolinas. And when it gets cold, and it does gets cold, the Florida hangers will invite you down.

Hi STinGa. I'm in the Lawrenceville/Buford area also. I'm near the Costco off the freeway.

North GA is an awesome playground!

No over cover needed. 5 foot huggers may not be enough In many parks or national forests.

I could not live there ... too close to the REI.

Actually ... from there, you can be up in the mountains pretty darn quickly. Again, welcome to GA.
