Hey I was just wondering, is there any negative side to just going from your continuous loop to a tree strap with either a slippery half hitch or a becket hitch?

I wouldn't completely trust a slippery half hitch but Becket and J-Bend are quite popular. My preference is J-Bend.

I had to attach my CL to my tree hugger to my last hike. my trees were too close together, so I used a marlin spike hitch on my strap and put my CL over that
Yeah the J Bend & Becket are better.
That's my primary suspension: 12' tree straps to continuous loop w becket hitch (slippery sheet bend). Has yet to fail; probably about a dozen nights. To loosen, it's not quite as easy as just pulling on the loose end; I usually need to jerk the strap toward the tree, which loosens the beckett hitch somehow (I should do a video on this).
I have UCRs, but I end up using the Beckett Hitch more often than not, because trees tend to be pretty close together wherever I go. Never had a problem with it.
To make the Becket hitch much easier to release, larkshead a little loop of cord to the CL and pull the little loop against the hitch to loosen it. Works like a charm. (Credit: Jeff Myers, and he's got a YT video on it somewhere...)

I hang my continuous loops over Marlin Spike. I initially worried that it did not create enough of a water break (err...brake?) but, it has served well even in significant rainfall.
