Was just wondering if anyone lives in Iowa, if not i might try to catch Chicago or one of the other not to far away.

Try to laugh everyday.
I live in Des Moines. I new to hanging and currently in the process of making my own gear, however I have been backpacking for a few years now. Locally for hanging I recommend Yellow Banks SE of Pleasant Hill, there are a couple nice options at their backpacking sites and it has been where I have been testing may gear (trees in my backyard are a bit too big), Ledges State Park near Boone might be another option. I have struggled to find many good places in central Iowa for backpacking, but if you are willing to travel to NE Iowa, Yellow River is pretty much as good as it gets for Iowa.
I would also recommend looking at the North shore area of Lake Superior around Duluth, MN. Travel time is about the same from Des Moines to Chicago and there are some great options on the Superior Hiking Trail.

I live in Cedar Rapids. I am new to hammock camping and have ordered all of my stuff and waiting to receive it all.
Another from Des Moines.
I'm another from the Des Moines area. Just getting started with backpacking & hanging. The main thing I'm learning so far is just how much I had been lying to myself about the shape I was in. But part of why I'm starting up with this obsession is to get back into shape and to stop sitting at desks staring at computer screens. I'm actually out at Stephens State Forest at one of the hike in campsites right now and am loving it. Despite having two bars of 4G it definitely has the backwoods feel.

Tag for future reference.
I am from Waterloo, and just getting started myself.
Funny, I am testing out my setup for a backpacking trip in two weeks at 9 Eagles state park not 30 miles from you right now, I honestly considered trying Stephens State Forest.
Josh82,
Not sure where that is, but will look it up.
Just found this. Mason City. Heading to yellow river for 3 days on the 10th and going to hike the 4 campgrounds on the outer loop.
