Yes you need a permit now but they are free. Easy to get for a week day but weekends are always sold out. Better during the week with less people out there anyways...

Went on a short hike up Elys peak this weekend. Always wanted to do that but never got around to it until now. A bit cold and windy but otherwise a fun hike. Scouted out some areas that look like they’ll be great hanging spots this summer for either my hammock chair or full gathered end.

Made my first hammock out of MTN 1.7XL fabric and needed to stress it.

Luckily for me I had a dirty kid that could put it through its paces. Thankfully it held up great! Next I'm going to try and make an underquilt, assuming I get all my other household projects done.

No photos but went out to a nearby state park (Salamonie Reservoir, Indiana) and got to my closest campsite (.8 miles from parking) via fat tire bike, arriving at 10pm. It was an even shorter trip when I realized as I'm falling asleep that I forgot one thing for my dehydrated breakfast - my stove! Ugh. Slept great but took my "hangry" self back home instead of hanging out for a bit. But hey, everything else went swimmingly so I still am happy with the trip. Lesson of the trip: don't try to pack in a hurry at 8:30pm! Live and learn!

Ha been there done that! Nothing like missing out on a critical piece of gear. Back in my tent days I once forgot to pack tent stakes....

Do you load everything up in panniers for fat bike trips?

2 weekends ago took my nephew (for his first camping trip, at 21yo!) and his buddy camping in Kettle Moraine South (WI). I've got my nephew hooked on hammock camping now! Also, found and ate my first morel!!
