Hey just a little info I heard Sunday. Past to anyone going towards Yates area.

Ranger advised a friend of mine that a rabid coyote is running around in the area. Has torn 2 tents up so far. Just wanted to share.

Thanks Chappy, maybe same coyote that attacked two people early Saturday morning, on Uwharrie Trail near Big Island Creek. After they fought off coyote that attacked them, it ran away.

Maybe I should hang my hammock a few meters higher in trees…to get a little higher on the food chain.

Rabies is 100% fatal for a people who contract rabies from a rabid animal….unless a painful series of shots are administered by doctors.

These shots are not like the small brief pain from most syringe shots. Rabies shots are Deep into abdomen and extremely painful…and you don’t get just one shot…you get a whole series of these painful shots. But that’s better than painful death of rabies.

Keep your dogs rabies vaccinations up to date.

Phantom not skeeeerd….er ah not much.

When I get round to it, I’ll post Yates Hang Fall 2024 on Time Change Weekend at Yates Place Campground.

Maybe I’ll watch some Coyote and Roadrunner cartoons Meeeep meeeeep!

Yes, and it tested positive for rabies.

Wondering if I should still take my troop there in 2 weeks. Sounds like they had food/smellables in the tent.

    Glad to hear that.
Too bad they didn't have what they needed to dispatch it.

On the hang change, I don't think the cost per person would be much and the added facilities would be nice, as long as all the questions brought up were covered, firewood and such.
If you got stuck with buying firewood from a campground, I think it would probably be costly.

One negative would be the "no alcohol".
I drink a little each night, but most people wouldn't know it because I try to keep it in bounds. Hopefully others will do the same.
I know you would lose some because of that but I have no idea how many.
I'm glad you are looking at providing alternatives for some of the group but I'm glad that the original Yates Place will go on.

Using a formal campground will mean a loss of some freedoms for some of us.... when we come and go, where we can hang, friendly drinking with friends.
If there is a concern with an outsider in camp, several of us should talk it over and decide how to properly keep an eye on it or deal with it.
Thanks Dave and others for your work, looking into this.
    Carry on!

    We are Yates!

For me the move to a paid site is a sign that the hammock community is getting old, too old for it's own good and perhaps aging out. Scare tactics like this post just turn some of us off and perhaps the thing is to hammock with a younger crowd, no matter one's age. Old farts always seem to come up with these excuses to shelter themselves from adventure and the freedom to roam Next you will be telling yourselves how inclusive you are - to those other scared fossils who find the world dangerous. But yeah, go huddle somewhere safe from questionable possibilities - but be carefull, I heard there was a wild chipmunk who was possibly rabid somewhere out in the woods.

I dunno. After chewing on this for awhile, Im beginning to see the sense of having a paid/regulated campground. Mainly for the fact that the world is becoming less safe. There are critters out there that like to "borrow" expensive camping gear and never return them. Im finding myself camping in more remote areas (when solo) just for that reason. The alternative is to gather the herd together to watch each others backs.
So I like both options. At least choices are still available.

I'm in favor of keeping it at Yates, but I'm one of those "old fossils at 66 and I don't like your disrespectful attitude Pavel.
If you were to talk to us/me that way person, you would be confronted.
you do you and i and others will do us.
