    Possible section

    Hey,
Maybe Crosby Manitou to HWY 1 would be a good section to consider. There are campsites very close to the parking lot(on hill above lake) for the feast the first night and the shuttling of cars would only be about 10-14 miles, I believe. It's about 26.2 miles of trail. We'd get a taste of about everything the trail has to offer. Just a thought, I haven't found any non-memorable spots on the trail.

I was in that campsite 2 weeks ago and it's smallish with room for 2 ground-dwelling tents. For a bigger group of hangers, we could doubtless spread out into the neighboring woods (which we'd probably have to do at most campsites anyway!!).

And, FWIW, the multi-group campsite at South Egge Lake ('bout 9 miles to the south) does not have good "hanging trees" in abundance (bad spacing IMO), but a nice campsite otherwise.

RE: Gun hunting season (November 7-22) and the SHT

Here's the reply I got from the SHTA office...

"Hi, the trail is closed in St. Louis County (except Duluth) and Lake County and open in most of Cook County (but we encourage people not to hike on the trail during this 2-week period)."

St. Louis and Lake Counties are west of Cook County. The Cook County line runs north/south and crosses Hwy 61 about where the Caribou Falls Wayside sits. Crosby Manitou is actually in Lake County but just west of the county line by about 4 miles.

The trail between Caribou Wayside and the Lutsen ski area would presumably be open, and of course, all points north.

I'm going to call this one a little early, so people can start scheduling their time off.

It looks like October 10th is going to be the date. The rest of the info can be discussed in this thread.
