Hang'n Arround Michigan

So, I have been Backpack'n & Hang'n in the following areas of lower Michigan:

* South Manitou Island
* Manistee River Trail
* Sleeping Bear Dunes
* Nordhouse Dunes

I am planning on going to the following this coming summer:

* North Manitou Island
* Tahquamenon Falls

Can anyone recommend any other good B-pack'n and Hang'n spots in lower Michigan? Preferably somewhere to do some fishing too?


Any good recommendations for Upper Michigan?

Aside from the ones already mentioned, Reed (Reid?) Lake foot travel area, near Hoist Lakes for some good fishing. Any section of the NCT is great, north of White Cloud. Another spot to mention in the UP is the McCormick Tract, true wilderness experience with several small lakes.

for a quick get away try blind lake at pichkney req area has out house water pump and a lake to fish in. Its not to far from you and its a hike in camp so isnt to busy. Lots of trees to hang from.

The Shore to Shore trail has a lot of potential as well as the High Country Pathway. You might check out a book called, "Best Tent Camping Michigan." It has a lot of good recommendations for campgrounds but also some dispersed camping in the L.P. The Sands Lake Quiet Area (between Traverse City and Kalkaska seems like it has potential for good fishing and hanging. There is also a rustic campground on an island in Grand Traverse Bay - Basset island.

I've been to most of these, but North Manitou Island is the one I'm hoping to do this summer. Just something about being on an island makes it better.

Porkies are awesome even in winter. Hoist lake is another nice spot. North Manitou is a great place. Im looking for something on the sunrise side or isle royale

A nice three day trip is to go to Hoist Lake for a night, pack out and have lunch in town and drive over to Reed Lake and spend the night.

Does anyone else hike Jordan River "backwards"? I did it that way the very first time I was there, and I like having the longer and harder part on day one. Day two is downright easy (except for Deadman's Hill).

Kudos to you if you're able to.

I can't imagine hiking that trail backwards.
With not being able to see where I was stepping, I would be tripping and falling all the time.
